ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Number Of Columns In ArrayCollection?

i'll have different number of columns in my dataGrid. DataGrid is privided from arrayCollection. I'm trying to add items to array collection using dynamic string 'x', like this:
for(i=0;i<time.length;i++) [code]........
At the end my 'result' array collection has to columns: 'name' with a value of 'name[i]' and 'session1' with a value o x string. I'm trying to increase nuber of 'session' columns in array collction, but it not working the way I planned.

I am trying to figure out how to manage a Datagrid based on an XML object like this:

I will need to populate the Datagrid column names based on a different XML object and use the above XML to populate each of the column's rows. I currently am able to create the Datagrid and populate its column headers but I am unsure as to how to how to add the rows for each column. The above XML will be update with new row and column elements added and deleted. This, of course, will be bound to the Datagrid to show updates.

How can I dynamically create my DataGrid's columns? Right now I'm using the following code in flex, but would like to create the columns to look a little different, depending on certain criteria in AS.

I am dynamically adding columns based on values received from an array. The columns are getting generated properly.But the problem is when I try to insert values for each column, I have to specify each column name in the addItem function.So the addItem function accepts only hardcore values which match my column names --- but it does not accept dynamic column names.Since it does not accept dynamic column names, it can't populate appropriate values related to each column.scoreBoardData is the instance name of my DataGrid component

1) Using datefield as item renderer in flex.I am dynamically creating datagrid and its columns. like

I'm trying to position dynamically generated movie clips into rows and columns. Currently i've managed to position them side-by-side using the same ._y position. I would like to position them into a grid consisting of 25 columns and 16 rows, so mc 26 would sit beneath mc 1 etc...

I need to dynamically stack rows and colums of squares. That is easy enough. But i want to dynamically change the number of columns depending on the total number of squares. This way, i will always have a rectangular grid of squares. I can do this by using a series of if...then statments to check the total number of squares, but this is not a good solution as it will not scale infinately nor is it very adaptable to different layouts.
I susupect that there is a way to find a relationship between the number of squares and the number of columns needed to keep things in a rectangular shape... but it hurts my head to keep trying to figure it out with my limited math skills.

I'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:

I have a advanced datagrid and populating some data by using arraycollection. And i am filtering the arraycollection, the arraycollection index got changed.
Arraycollection:- [0] - name: abc
[1] - name: hello
[2] - name: hello1
[3] - name:hai
after filtering the arraycollection as 'hell' , the array collection is displaying like the below:
Arraycollection:-
[0] - name: hello1
[1] - name: hello
Can i know the reason why the index got changed after filter it?
* no server side code for filtering. it is only flex side filtering.

I have a problem that should have a simple solution but I cant seem to figure it out. Basically I need to assign a movieclip a number value to that it will carry with it so I can later compare it to the number value of another movieclip.
Here is the snippet of my class code. I got a loop that creates a new object and adds it to the stage and then positions it. It all works accept for when I try to assign the i value to _dragHead.HIT (HIT is not a movieclip nested within the _dragHead object by the way). I just want each newly added movieclip to carry a unique number value so how would I achieve this?

I m new to actionscript 2.0 and flash cs3 (on which the team was working before). I have managed to learn basics (though not completely) of flash and AS2. Our project is about creating an e-learning tool that will enable the students to improve their english grammar skills through different lessons e.g noun, adjective verb etc.
i m trying to write a generic code that, after completion, should work for around 40 lessons in the entire tool. making 1 main.fla that should work for all lessons, seems interesting but a challenging job. i can not find any thread or blog that wud tell me CAN I COUNT THE NUMBER OF SCREENS IN MY LESSON AND THEN AT RUN TIME MY main.fla SHOULD HAVE THAT MANY FRAMES. i will try to explain this through an example: in noun.xml, i calculated 30 screens, so i need 30 frames for noun.xml....whereas if in adjective.xml, i have 50 screens, i should have 50 frames......therefore, i need to calculate the number of screens in my lesson, and then dynamically insert that many frams in my application, can i do that...

I am trying to use the ENTER_FRAME event with a number of dynamically created movieclips and it is not working.The swf features a series of five clock faces that the user will select by hitting the appropriate button. Each clock has five unique movieclips to that season including a second hand, a minute hand, a main character, a seasonal clock face and a back ground, again, each of these MovieClips are different on each of the five clocks. So I have a series of five listeners for each of the buttons:
spring_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startSpring, false, 0, true);
winter_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startWinter, false, 0, true);

then the associated functions to the mouse event looks like this.

My problem: I am attaching variable number of MCs dynamically(not in the library), and i have to do so using flash6 or older. How can i use then loadMovie+onClipEvent handler to invoke something, if i am attaching MCs dynamically, and onClipEvent works only on MCs attached on the Stage(actions "on" those mcs, not "inside" them). EDIT2: aha. well, again it happened that attachMovie's methods are not yet initialized, so it was not yet "the proper time to assign" handler onData on those MCs. [only sen knows why ]. Inside my code i have some variables declared as Numbers, and i get some others from an external source; these variables can either be Numbers or String representation of Numbers.
