May 17, 2010I am working on a tree component and I am having a bit of the issue with populating the data-provider for this tree.The data that I get back from my database is a simple array of value objects. Each value object has 2 properties. ObjectID and ParentID. For parents the ParentID is null and for children the ParentID is the ObjectID of the parent.

Flex :: Prevent Container In ItemRenderer From Exceeding Width Of List Container?
Jul 2, 2011In a Flex Mobile project I have a simple itemRenderer where I'm trying to create an "bubble" texting effect, similar to ichat or iphone (just so you get what im going for). But if the text is longer than the screen it runs off, rather than just going down a line.
If I set Group thats holding the rectangle(to create the bubble effect) and the label to 100% it works and keeps it from exceeding the list containers bounds, BUT the group is always at 100% and looks bad, I'm trying to keep the "bubble" JUST AROUND the text.
Anyway so, at the top of my itemRenderer I tried specifying:

And here's my layout I figured since msg_container has a width of 100% I was hoping bubble_lable_group would just not exceed that but...it doesnt...it just runs off. I tried setting a max width but that does not allow you to input percents. And just to say it 1 more time. I know if i set bubble_lable_group width to 100% it works, and keeps it from going off the edge, but then the rectangle "bubble" stretches all the way across and just looks bad.

Flex :: Dynamically Adding Container To A Dynamic Container
Sep 21, 2011I have a loop that goes through data from a book and displays it. The book is not consistent in it's layout so I am trying to display it in two different ways. First way(works fine) is to load the text from that section in to a panel and display it. The second way is to create a new panel (panel creates fine) and then add collapsable panels(nested) to that panel. Here is the code from the else loop.

The error I get is: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property panel4.4 not found on components.readTest and there is no default value.
I have tried setting the "name" property instead of the "id" property.

Now how to drag any circle from any Big circle to other side. Or it could be like any two container having circles, then how to drag and drop circle?
For one circle i am able to do drag and drop.But I want one Big circle on left hand side and one big circle on right hand side .And small circles with class names will be in these big circles.Now i want to drag and drop those small circles in big circles.Big cicles should not move. Jul 28, 2010I create an HBox, fill it with a grid of buttons, and set the scroll policy. When I resize the window, the stage changes size, and so does the HBox ... to a point. Once it reaches the height of the Grid it contains, it stops shrinking, like it has a "min-height". This ruins the scrollbar that I'm trying to establish in this case.
I've set the height to 100%, shouldn't it always take the height of the stage, it's parent?[code]....

Jan 27, 2010I'm currently working on a custom component which extends Canvas (let's call it SuperCanvas) ; it's basically a container that let you zoom & pan its contents. It would be too long to explain why, but I can't use scrollRect, so I was forced to declare a Canvas object (called innerCanvas)... inside my SuperCanvas (I know, not very nice =/) I would like to know if there's a proper way to "redirect" the creation of my component's children in this canvas.

Oct 31, 2011I'm using flex and drawing a circle using the Spark Ellipse primitive. I am setting the x,y coordinates of the circle myself. I am drawing them within a TitleWindow component. Is it possible to force the circle to not be allowed if I specify a coordinate that is outside the TitleWindow? Or do I have to check the coordinates manually myself?

Aug 12, 2009URL...Whenever a chat is added, I want it to completely show the last message. I'm using maxVerticalScrollPosition to set the scroll position on the list, but it is always wrong (see the example). It undershoots it by a row or so. I've tried this with a regular container and it does the same thing. If I do maxVerticalScrollPosition+1, it sort of works, but if the last message is particularly long, it will be cut off (only show the top). How can I get it to scroll to the actual bottom of the container??[code]

Flex :: Force Validation When A Container Is Displayed
Jul 29, 2009I have a Flex 3 app with a view in a viewstack, and that view must only be created when requested. I have declared validators for each of the controls on the view and I have created a method called checkAllValid() which runs Validator.validateAll(). This works great when I'm actually using the controls (using the change or focusOut events), but how can I get checkAllValid() to run when the view is first displayed to the user, so that they are immediately shown what is invalid once the data is populated in the controls?
I have tried putting the call in various events on the view itself (e.g. creationComplete, updateComplete, show, activate, etc.) but it always shows the following error when I start the application:
'The source attribute must be specified when the property attribute is specified.'
I have also tried setting the creationPolicy on the view to "all" but this does not help.
Some of the validators are only enabled when the form is in a certain state, but I have eliminated that as being the potential problem by commenting out all of my validators except for this most simple one:

I have also tried calling the single validator directly rather than using validateAll and the result is the same.
There must be a way I can force the view to validate when it is shown....
(by the way it's in the Cairngorm MVC framework and I have data bound to the controls)

Flex :: Dynamically Add Words Of Text To A Container?
Jun 3, 2010I have a scenario where I want to dynamically add words of text to a container so that it forms a paragraph of text which is wrapped neatly according to the size of the parent container. Each text element will have differing formatting, and will have differing user interaction options. For example, imagine the text " has just spoken out about ". Each word will be added to the container one at a time, at run time. The username in this case would be bold, and if clicked on will trigger an event. Same with the news article. The rest of the text is just plain text which, when clicked on, would do nothing.
Now, I'm using Flex 3 so I don't have access to the fancy new text formatting tools. I've implemented a solution where the words are plotted onto a canvas, but this means that the words are wrapped at a particular y position (an arbitrary value I've chosen). When the container is resized, the words still wrap at that position which leaves lots of space.I thought about adding each text element to an Array Collection and using this as a datasource for a Tile List, but Tile Lists don't support variable column widths (in my limited knowledge) so each word would use the same amount of space which isn't ideal. how I can plot words onto a container so that I can retain formatting, events and word wrapping at paragraph level, even if the container is resized?

But I'd like to be able to catch when the children are added so that I can control stuff like when & where they're added. I tried overriding addChild(), addChildAt(), addElement(), addElementAt(), (extending the Group class) but they only fire when you add elements specifically with those functions - the application launches and the label, button, etc, end up in MyContainer without calling these functions. How do I control the addition of sub-components via MXML?

May 23, 2011I need a way to drag and drop an image from a container to another. I have tried a few different ways but I guess the drag & drop thing is still eluding me. Anyway, here's what I am trying to do, A container will contains a few bitmap/vector image (what's the best way for this? Tile Group? Or?) and then I want to be able to drag any of the image onto another larger Image inside of a Panel. Just like dragging shapes in Photoshop. No code here, as I am completely lost on how to go about it. I found a few tip/tutorial here and there but none which I could understand easily or adapt to my need.
