what is the actual height of a container in Flex without scrollbars? Height and measuredheight seem to tell me what the visual height of a container is, but I want to know that number plus any height that is being 'hidden" below a scrollbar.

I don't understand why the following does not work:
Pushing the Button resizes the photoCanvas's height (gets taller or smaller). Since the photoCanvas control is a child element of the VGroup shouldn't the container update itself to the new height? The Vgroup has ALWAYS the same height, no matter what the (total) height of the children is! I would like the VGroup to adjust itself and get a height value equal to the sum of its children heights. Is this not possible??
I need to resize a Group using myGroup.height = 0. And it works, but myGroup's children are still visible, I do not know why...

Apparently I can get the desired behavior if I change HBox to Canvas but I would still like to know how to accomplish this with a HBox and why it differs from Canvas.
I've created a dynamic text field, and set autoSize to true, so it can grow was tall as necessary. I then want to use the _height value to size a container graphic (speech bubble). Here's the (simplified) code:

Returns 19.6 followed immediately by 35.2. It's as though reading txt._height causes it to recalculate, so it's correct the second time. I also tried the textHeight property, which also seems to get recalculated after _height is accessed. This sequence, for example:

How do you change the html scrollbar (the one that you see in the far right of your browser) with your own images? I know it's possible because i've seen it before.
P.S.: I am aware of and I know how to change the color of the scrollbar. That is not what's expected. Also i think it's made possible by Javascript.
I have an empty container MovieClip in which I put a couple of other MovieClips.These inner MovieClips have the ability to expand (kind of accordeon).Everytime a new item gets added/removed or when an item expands/collapses I check if scrolling is needed by checking container.height.The weird thing is that the result is different depending on which item is expanded. Although all the items (and the expanded sections) have equal height and spacing.
View 12 RepliesI have a root folder that calls a container loading movie-a. The problem is that this movie-a has a red symbol that scrolls from the outside to the inside of the movie. If I loaded the movie-a by itself it wouldn't show the symbol outside but as this is inside a root... well... it shows (see image). Is there a way to set container width-height? I know I can mask it but I don't want to to that because I have other symbols flying around the movie.

I am trying to use flowlayout from : [URL] when i implement this layout the height of container/group is not increasing automatically depending upon the elements added. I have given no height to the container/group so that it can take as much height as required but this layout is not giving any height to it.

I have a sprite container which is supposed to hold a bunch of thumbnails to videos. I am able to populate the container with all the videos and the whole works but obviously if I add a bunch of videos its going to exceed the size of the flash document so I need to add a UIScrollBar (which I did) now the scrollbars target is set to the container but isnt allowing me to scroll and if im correct this is because the container doesnt have a set height. So Im trying to set the height of this container but the second I try setting the height or even width all my thumbnails I used to be able to see are gone! It's as if the size is being set to 0 when its not I've even tried to set it to a specified size just to test and nothing.

I have several nested VBoxes in flex, and I'm aiming for one of them to get scrollbars if the total content is larger than the window height. However, when I grow the container, it doesn't get scrollbars at all (vertical scroll policy is AUTO), and the outer container stretches past the bottom of the screen, causing the entire app to get scrollbars. In a Flex Mobile project I have a simple itemRenderer where I'm trying to create an "bubble" texting effect, similar to ichat or iphone (just so you get what im going for). But if the text is longer than the screen it runs off, rather than just going down a line.
If I set Group thats holding the rectangle(to create the bubble effect) and the label to 100% it works and keeps it from exceeding the list containers bounds, BUT the group is always at 100% and looks bad, I'm trying to keep the "bubble" JUST AROUND the text.
Anyway so, at the top of my itemRenderer I tried specifying:

And here's my layout I figured since msg_container has a width of 100% I was hoping bubble_lable_group would just not exceed that but...it doesnt...it just runs off. I tried setting a max width but that does not allow you to input percents. And just to say it 1 more time. I know if i set bubble_lable_group width to 100% it works, and keeps it from going off the edge, but then the rectangle "bubble" stretches all the way across and just looks bad.

I'm using an iFrame in a Flex 3 project. The problem is that if the user opens my site in a small browser window, they don't get scrollbars. How can I solve this problem? Is there a way to force the browser to put up scrollbars?
If I set the main app to horizontalScrollPolicy="on" verticalScrollPolicy="on" or to "auto", then as you scroll down, the iFrame is stuck to the top of the browser window and obscures the content.

It's going to be used to view complicated scenes in 3D, but to make it work on laptops it's instead showing pre-rendered 360 degree renders of the objects.When you load an object, it first buffers 360 frames into memory, so that you can rotate around this object smoothly. When you release the mouse button, it loads in the high-res image of that frame.
Then, you should be able to zoom in and move around to inspect the model closer.Problem here is when I have the scrollbars enabled it wont work properly.Firstly, I had a problem where the vertical scrollbar moved out of the picture when I was scrolling the horizontal scrollbar.
Then after some more testing, they now stay where they should, but when I zoom in (will post code below) the horizontal scrollbar is not able to go far enough to the left to show the whole image.What happens is, when I zoom in, the scrollbar remains at it's left position, but I zoom in on the center of the image (zooming, by scaling the container. The image fill the container).
My problem is probably just a result of me overlooking some basic understanding. And sorry if the code is a bit messy, I've only done a little bit of clean up. The code I post below is without any scrollbars visible.
You can see that I've tried using scrollbar components too, and it works somehow. But I'm not able to scale the scrollbar depending on the content, so if I zoom in or out, the handle you drag on the scrollbar will be the same...

I have a loop that goes through data from a book and displays it. The book is not consistent in it's layout so I am trying to display it in two different ways. First way(works fine) is to load the text from that section in to a panel and display it. The second way is to create a new panel (panel creates fine) and then add collapsable panels(nested) to that panel. Here is the code from the else loop.

The error I get is: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property panel4.4 not found on components.readTest and there is no default value.
I have tried setting the "name" property instead of the "id" property.
I can take snapshot of a component. But the problem is the component is lil bigger with scroll bars. The saved image has scrollbars (only the visible area is getting saved). What i need is I want the entire component to be saved as an image.
This exact functionality is available while we print the component using FlexPrintJob, where by setting the FlexPrintJobScaleType.NONE.

1. The HScrollBar is being added.
2. We increase a bit the width of container, so it disappears.
3. When it disappears, the validating throws the null-pointer exception when it tries to measure the non-existing scrollbar. I've also tried to add validateProperties before validation, but it didn't worked either.

Is there a way to make everything "modal" except the main scroll bars? I know that I could put a scrollbar on the Panel but I would prefer to avoid this.
I'm looking for a way to disable the scrolling of the vertical and horizontal scrollbars when scrolling the mouse. I use the mouse scroll to zoom in and out, and I don't want the scrollbars to scroll while scrolling the mouse wheel.. (But I do need the scrollbars to be visible).
