Apr 28, 2011I setup Cruisecontrol to auto build a flex project every 1 hour using FlexAnt. The build itself works great - I can see when the project build fails/succeeds in the console perfectly well. But the cruisecontrol dashboard is not updated for the flex project.I have the sample connectfour project, and when it fails, I can see the red box for the project in the dashboard. This does not happen for my flex projects.

Dec 16, 2009I need to build an "interactive floorplan" for a shopping centre (or two). Many shopping centre websites already have this (eg Bluewater in the UK). Traditionally, the way to build such a floorplan / map is to do it in Flash. The actual floorplan is a Flash asset and the data that describes which retailer is in each location is fetched from the webserver as XML. That way editors can update the location of retailers without having to edit and recompile the SWF file. However if the floorplan itself changes (for example, a larger shop is split into two smaller ones) then the map has to be edited. Another disadvantage is that the data isn't readily available to third parties for mashups etc. So apart from Flash what would you consider using to achieve the same effect? I know of SVG but IE doesn't support it.

Jun 22, 2010I am doing a video library. Each category has it's own XML files that feeds it data. Everything works great.However, when I Exported the Release Build. I noticed those XML files are gone(i.e. never got exported). I don't understand why. I need the video library to be dynamic so I can add or remove videos.Anyone know why those files are not exported along with the rest of the project. Like a setting in the preference that I need to fix?

Mar 2, 2011Is it possible to build a flex 4 application that references or uses the flex 4 libraries (or any libraries that are compatible) without the project compiling them into the main SWF of the project.
So in a nut shell, I have a project and I want to load the flex 4 library from the server, is this possible? I've seen articles on compiler settings. Could this be the solution to loading the library from the server?

Nov 14, 2009I'm building a project that dynamically loads external images and audio into it.The images in the external folder are numbered sequentially in the order they display as you click through them (1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc). No problem.There is audio that is supposed to fade in a play with certain images. (1.mp3 fades in when 1.jpg is displayed.). No problem.Here's where it gets tricky... At least for me.Not every jpg has an audio file associated with it. The last audio that was triggered needs to keep playing until another jpg with cooresponding audio file plays, at which point the two audio files need to smoothly crossfade.1.jpg displayed => 1.mp3 fades in and plays.

With parent artifactId of swf, swc, war set to swf, swc, test respectively.On executing mvn on test folder(for that matter clean or anything) I get this following error.

Looks like its trying to download the project from maven's central repository instead of building it.

A friend of a friend told me that Flex is slower than an Actionscript project. I've been unable to validate this on the internet; is there any truth to that claim?

Flex :: Specify Swc When Building A Swf?
Jul 7, 2010I have implemented some utility classes in Flex that I want to use in multiple AIR projects. I have created a swc which contain these classes. I am working on a Linux machine and do not have FlashBuilder. So I am using the compc and mxmlc command line SDK tools. My problem is that I have not been able to find a way to specify the swc when building the standalone project. A tutorial suggested the following command: mxmlc -load-config /opt/flex/4.1.0/frameworks/air-config.xml -library-path=/path/to/utility.swc hello.mxml. However, using that gives me the error hello.mxml: Error: Unable to locate specified base class 'mx.core.WindowedApplication' for component class 'hello'. Everything works fine if I move all code from the swc to a single monolithic pro ject. The code for the standalone project is:

Flex :: Enterprise - Building A New System In Flex / Air?
Feb 21, 2011This maybe a bit of a 'wide' question, but am putting together a brief overview of a new system I'm proposing at work. It will be a POS style system, that does quotes and invoices + crm for our work enviroment across 100 + locations.
It will communicate with server via the Internet. Flex / Air feature set (offline SQL is Internet goes down, Rich communications, rich client environment etc), the fact that we run Macs + PC makes it looks like a great choice. I know HTML 5 has offline SQL and stuff, but flex feature set is way more comprehensive / usable etc..Is anyone doing any big corporate Flex / Air projects that need to last a long time? Or are you pushing HTML and its new technologies to provide a more safe investment.

Jul 26, 2009I've written a Flash (Flex) client connecting to a back-end server to exchange data. I've also written my server from scratch, and it serves two purposes:
(1) Web (HTTP) Server- By default listens on port 80
(2) Socket/Application- Server - By default listens on port 443
Just FYI, both servers run in the same process space, for convenience reasons. They are not expected to handle massive loads, so I'm fine with that. As soon as the Flash client is served to the browser from the HTTP socket, the client attempts to open an XMLSocket to the Socket/Application server. I now want to implement HTTP tunneling, so that my client can connect to the Application server even if the user is behind a firewall. I do not want any external servers involved (proxies etc.) - simply use the servers I already have.
My questions:
(1) Is it better to use port 443 for that? (does it better fool firewalls?)
(2) As far as I can see, what I am required to do, is just ensure that my actual application data is simply encapsulated in an HTTP structure (preceded by a dummy HTTP header), both from the client and server sides. Is that so or am I missing anything here?
(3) Do I need to keep hiding/encapsulating my data every message I send through the socket, or can I just encapsulate the first message when opening the connection?
