I am trying to work with a simple HTTPService. The problem is that my webservice is conscious of the order of arguments it gets. I will tell the problem with an example:
var service:HTTPService = new HTTPService();
var params:Object = new Object();
params.rows = 0;
params.facet = "true";
service.send(params);
Note that in the above code I have mentioned the parameter rows before facet, but the url I recieve is facet=true&rows=0. So I recieve the argument rows before facet and hence my webservice does not work. I figured out that the contents of array is always sent in alphabetical order, which I dont want.
Is there any way I can achieve explict ordering of parameters sent?
Note that I am not in power of changing the logic of webservice(its basically a RPC service supporting both desktop and web client).
I would like to send variables or parameters from Component to Main (MXML) Application. Like my component is FileUpload.mxml and would like to forward the uploaded file details from FileUpload.mxml to Main.mxml.
I tried the following procedure :

to get the reference for the FileUpload component, however, I am unable to get the variables from the FileUpload.mxml file.

Here I've got this bit of code that works alright, but I would prefer to have the parameters that are being sent through myTween.tweenMe(_text, 40, 300, 150, 100, 4000) originate instead with the call to tweenerIt. The problem seems to be that the tweenerIt function needs to receive the e:Event parameter, which is some sort of 'behind the scenes' type of thing that I don't fully understand. If I try putting ... _text.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, tweenerIt(_text, 40, 300, 150, 100, 4000) and then something like.. private function tweenerIt(param1, param2, param3, etc..., e:Event):void, it doesn't work.

I am trying to populate a component combo box using an urlloaded xml, the xml has been "escaped" and the spaces replaced with +.
How do I populate the combo box as when I unescape the xml and replace the +s it is now in string format.

Rather than packaging SWF files with each FLV, I'd like to just design one SWF file and have the corresponding HTML file pass the URL of the FLV as a parameter to the SWF. I've read a lot about passing in parameters from HTML to SWF using AS3, and it seems pretty straightforward. Here's an example of the code I created using Flash CS3 and ActionScript 3.0:

Note that I'm using the variable "userName" to pass the parameter. Eventually I'd use a variable like "movieURL" to convey the actual URL of the FLV file. In any case, when I run the code, I get ... nothing! Nothing but a blank text box. Both the HTML and SWF files are on my local machine.
If I uncomment the "//traceText.text = Loaded" line, the text box says "Loaded", which would indicate that the event listener is functioning properly.
I am using fancybox within a html page and I am calling an flv file via a swf file, plays fine locally and works via the web, the problem is that I need to link all of my assets with remote urls as I need to host the html elsewhere. So html hosted on server A and assets on server B. I've recently been having a few problems generally relating to retriving URL information. I've overcome most of these errors at the point of posting this thread, however one still eludes me:

Within the application, the parameter is being refered to in an if statement.
In all tests, including those on a web server, this code returns an "undefined" value. The only time at which I can get the code to work is when the swf is by itself, as soon as it is embedded into a HTML or other page it appears that the parameters cannot be picked up from the URL.
The URL could be example.com/app/?variable=123. The variable would be returned as "123", however it is not picked up.
after 3yrs doing this stuff, i feel like I'm still learning the basics of .as and .html and am wondering how I can pass a parameter to another server using Flash. ... Man, how do I explain this? ... An html guy set up his server to display my content- ie: He setup his server..

I would like to find a relatively current example using AS3, Flash CS4. I need to pass the url of an XML file off to the flash app so that it can go pick up instructions on what it is supposed to be playing. We want to do it this way because we don't control the web site so we can't just leave the XML file on the server and maintain it as needed.

View 1 RepliesI have a project where I need to keep track of where the user is at a certain point of a flash training orientation.
Flash application needs to accept a parameter which contains a unique ID for the user running the flash application. This ID needs to be stored throughout the session of the flash application, from page to page. Once a user travels from page-X to page-X in the Flash, the next button needs to call an aspx page in order to send that ID and the page position so the aspx can write to an XML file this information. If the user does not finish the flash, once they return, the aspx needs to read the correct XML file and send 2 parameters to the flash application. These 2 parameters will be the user's ID and the page the user was on the flash can load the correct page. Instead of passing 2 parameters so the flash can dynamically load the correct section, the aspx can call the correct flash file (i.e. flash_file2.swf) but still pass the user's ID as a parameter.
