For example user inputed his name. Mar 29, 2012i want to create a chat app using flex 4.5 mobile project for android device. For the chat screen, i wanted it to look glossy and stylish. Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Im using a collection and i ve binded it with the list. Whenever i receive a chat i update the collection and it gets displayed in the list. Can someone tell me if his could pose a performance problem as list component is not intended for this purpose.

Aug 17, 2010I am writing a Flex application for use on a private intranet with no external Internet access. I want to use Google's 3D Maps Flex API, but it must be connected to the internet to download map tiles on demand.
Is there a way to locally cache the 3D map tiles and data so that I can run this app without an internet connection? And if not, is there a 3D GIS that supports Flex integration and allows for a local map cache?

It's compiling all fine, and when I try to send I don't get any errors, but also no result. No message is received. Am I on the right path? What's the logic behind the endpoint uri? What port should I use? Should I configurate Web.config? (beyond the flourinefx configs that enable RemotingService?) I don't get any response in the flourine.log.

Sep 20, 2010I have performance issues with my test web chat app - video playback is very slow on, around 1 frame per few seconds at 640x480, 15fps, quality: 90. Network usage is low (gigabit LAN), cpu's still have some headroom so it should be the software.
Quick description of my setup:red5 0.9.1; simple flash broadcast and subscribe derived from here [URL] and mr. accattato's videos; using oflaDemo on serverside.
Local image on the broadcaster is good.So far I guess flash broadcaster would be the most likely culprit, but here is my worst since I am new to flex. Red5 should not modify the stream I guess, and it doesn't make much sense for the subscriber to play only 1 frame per second.

It is a chat-like program, where user enters words into the TextInput field, presses ENTER and the lines are appended to the Label (or Text or TextArea or RichText - whatever is suitable here). I have prepared this simple test case below, it will run instantly in your Flash Build 4.6 and the code to find the words and their indices is already there. How to change the color of text parts programmatically (i.e. by ActionScript 3) and repeatedly.

Oct 7, 2010Looking for a component which can be embedded inside my site (PHP, ASP.NET...whatever) and give a support for video chat. I'm not a flex developer and would like to use a component. There are some/many video chats available, like flashcoms, red5chat...but all of those are heavy(monolit) components.
What I would like to have on my site is just a small video showing output from my camera (me) and another video showing the other party...but those videos should be split, not in the same flash component, but separate (two different EMBED tags on my page).
Are there any components available to do that (of course with support from appropriate media server)? Are there any good guides on how to develop such a component?

Apr 19, 2011Currently we are in the design phase of an application that will allow two users to communicate with each other using chat and video (with audio), the application is a web application that currently is a java web app with Spring and hibernate, but we want to incorporate video and chat between two users and we are evaluating the options to developing it, so far we have two choices, either develop a Flex UI that leverages its video and chatting capabilities through Red5 or something like that and communicates with the Spring app using BlazeDS or a completely java based approach using (maybe) JMF and/or applets to achieve the video and chat interaction. The question is, which would be the most scalable approach to develop such an application?, what would be the approach that is the least intrusive from the end user perspective?

Jul 26, 2009I've written a Flash (Flex) client connecting to a back-end server to exchange data. I've also written my server from scratch, and it serves two purposes:
(1) Web (HTTP) Server- By default listens on port 80
(2) Socket/Application- Server - By default listens on port 443
Just FYI, both servers run in the same process space, for convenience reasons. They are not expected to handle massive loads, so I'm fine with that. As soon as the Flash client is served to the browser from the HTTP socket, the client attempts to open an XMLSocket to the Socket/Application server. I now want to implement HTTP tunneling, so that my client can connect to the Application server even if the user is behind a firewall. I do not want any external servers involved (proxies etc.) - simply use the servers I already have.
My questions:
(1) Is it better to use port 443 for that? (does it better fool firewalls?)
(2) As far as I can see, what I am required to do, is just ensure that my actual application data is simply encapsulated in an HTTP structure (preceded by a dummy HTTP header), both from the client and server sides. Is that so or am I missing anything here?
(3) Do I need to keep hiding/encapsulating my data every message I send through the socket, or can I just encapsulate the first message when opening the connection?
Flex :: Possible To Implement Facebook In Adobe?
Feb 13, 2010I am considering creating a website with the complexity of Facebook that should be able to scale into the millions of users. My question is: Is there any reason not to use Adobe Flex for such large project apart from the obvious point of requiring everyone to have Flash installed and not having to rely on Adobe? In my view Adobe Flex would reduce the server load for Facebook, because more of the work could me done on the client side.

Mar 4, 2010I have a List component from which I'd like to be able to remove items using drag & drop, but without having a specific target. If you use the mac, the behaviour I'm looking for is something like what the Dock uses; when you drag something out of the bounds of the control it should get an icon that indicates that it'll be deleted (OSX uses a cloud or something?) and then if you release it it will be removed from the list.
