Java :: Flash Upload IOError #2038 After Successful Server Processing
Nov 3, 2010
I built two flash uploaders using actionscript 3 & actionscript 2 that sends files to a java servlet. The java servlet successfully receives that file, but the flash uploader fires an IOerror #2038 instead of a complete event.
There was another question is my exact same problem, but the answer "clear the cache" was very broad, and the question owner was too lazy to give a detailed description.

I'm using AIR to upload a file to a server. Amazingly, I'm getting an IOError even though the upload succeeds! The server requires authentication, so I handle that first (credentials and URL redacted below), then I upload the file successfully (even though Flash says I didn't):
ActionScript Code:
// Instantiate the file and add listeners
var file:File = new File("C:/file.xml");
file.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, fileUploadFailed);

My WEBrick log reads: WARN Could not determine content-length of response body. Set content length of the response or set response#chunked = true I did some searching and found that that error could be because:
File size permitted by the server is less than the upload size.Lack of free space on the server (Checked.
PS: I have tried thin too. No help there either. Or maybe I missed some option in the 'thin config' option.[URL]..

i have a flex file upload application over https it works fine on all IE browsers. Recently a client with IE9 reported a complaint that she's not able to upload files. can see the error generated is IO Error #2038. The adobe documentation says 2038 is File I/O Error.This error occurs when an application can't get file size, creation date or modification data using the FileReference API.
All i can think of is browser issues like, browser cache, some new configuration in IE9 am unaware of or permission on the client directory.

I've been using Processing for around two years now, and I really like it. However, I feel like Flash is a bit more useful for coding games, as it's more universal and flexible. I'm starting to feel like I have no idea what I'm doing, and I really don't get any of the concepts like movie clips and the stage and so forth. In Processing, to make, say, a ball, I might make this:
Ball[] ballArray = new Ball[ 0 ]; //Array to store each ball in
void setup()
{
size( 400, 400 );
[code].....
And that would let me create as many instances as I like, anywhere I like.I haven't the faintest clue how to make a comparable applet in Flash.I've tried making a 'ball' class in a separate .as file, but it gives me an error about too many arguments. I also don't know how to draw a shape directly to the screen.

I have now ran into Flex Fileupload problem on ssl as many others have. I simply get an IOError, no other information as to what caused the error was given, ssl handshake or something else. How do I nail down the cause of the error? I tried using the ';jsessionid=' trick, still no luck. FYI, I am running on local https server, with self signed cert. Everthing works fine without ssl. With ssl, it only works on IE (FF, Chrome, Safari fails on https). With other browsers, server doesn't even get the request.

Im trying to make connection from flex to java and from java to mysql. I managed to connect to java, but having error that class not found: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver. But i downloaded mysql.jar, included it added to library, and connection works when i testing it from clipse scrapbook. Dont know what to do, i spend last couple days on this.
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
String username = "username";
String password = "password";
[code]....
Basically the solution was simple. Everybody keeps saying to put jar into lib folder, so i done it, but i wasnt realised that i have to put into my servers lib directory, not app lib directory and this miserable mistake cost so much. Anyway i hope this will help for some newbie like me.In this particular situation im using red5, so i putted it into my red5 dist/lib directory and "surprisingly" its started to work.

I tried with flex and java in the backend. In this, I am able to upload files till 100 MB using remote object (blazeDs) where we will read the file as byte array and send it to the java method. If the file size exceeds after that, then I get the run time error in IE.

As far as I know, what I ask here isn't possible, but I thought I'd ask anyway in case I'm missing something.
Suppose you want to let users upload JPG images, and these images are scaled into smaller icons and the original images are always discarded and never required again. Is there any way that would commonly work in most modern browsers that would let the user select a single image on their hard drive, have that LOCALLY turned into a thumbnail and upload the created thumbnail to a server?
In a case where the server just needs a small image, it would be wasteful both in user time and server resources to proceed uploading the whole image, only to immediately discard it. It would be much better to just scale it on the client.
I can imagine three options. Just plain HTML/Javascript, using Flash or using Java. If this were possible with Flash, that would seem like the best option. But reading flash.net.FileReference documentation, it seems that you can upload a file from the HD yes, but you cannot look inside the file you are uploading. On the other hand, if you enable "can access local files" in Flash publishing options, it seems that you can then no longer access the net, so that doesn't work.
With HTML/Javascript, it is possible to load images and display them on a <canvas>, but if you try to access the pixels of these images, you get security violations, so that doesn't seem to work.
Java I hesitate to use, because only 96.52% of my users have it installed, and the file upload dialogs I have seen implemented in Java (at Facebook for example) have not worked well (unresponsive interface). I wonder though if Java is the only thing allowing resizing images from local HD?

I now have a Windows PC and I purchase Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5 software and install.I but server space on a managed server arrangement.I upload my pre recorded Flash clips to the server and my website and playlist to my host. Basically the website is channelled via http and the clips via RTMP. The key question that no one inside Adobe seems to be able to grasp (or answer) is ~ will it work if I stream my own clips?! or is it inferior to say that of a professional streaming company.The streaming companies charge anything from $125 to $250 a month, a big cost for someone like me, streaming around 1000mb a month. So does anyone out there have direct knowledge of this software and can you stream via rented server space without using a streaming company?

We're writing a flash application that can download a MP3 file, convert it to a Sound object, get the raw data and make some processing (like adding sounds, change octaves). After the processing, we want to send the data back to the server in chunks, so the server will be able to glue the data together and recover the new generated file. The problem is: if we send to the server "wav" pieces of sound, we are able to glue them together without any problem in the generated file. However, if we convert each wav piece to a mp3 file (so we can send a smaller file to the server) and join the mp3 files at the server, the result is a sound with some problems at the merge point.
This is how we load the mp3 file from the server:
sourceSnd.load(new URLRequest("sample url to mp3"));
sourceSnd.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, carregou);
This is how we convert each piece of mp3 to bytearray and wav:

I'm building a Facebook multiplayer game where the client side is in FLEX and the server side is in Java and I wanted to know if there is a guide on how to build the server clients managing system. When I say server clients managing system, I mean a server which many clients will connect to and will be able to choose between tables to join and play or to create their own table, same way as in texas holdem poker.

I am using a PHP upload to upload files to server. I have a loop for the 5 files to upload....
ActionScript Code:
if (PDFFiles[i] != false){
PDFFiles[i].upload(uploadPHP);
}
As the loop runs quicker than PHP can upload, the success of....
ActionScript Code:
function fileUploaded(e:DataEvent):void {
trace "Success"}
....can get out of synch. It doesn't cause me any real problems but is this bad form? Or am I better to upload one file the wait for the PHP to return success before uploading the next one?

I have a project that was already supposed to be launched. It tested fine on my computer, but is throwing an error on other browsers....and I cannot figure out how to catch the error! I have been reading and trying everything, but nothing is working!!!
I captioned a video using components, but the captions are stored in the video and the source then is "0". Flash doesn't understand "0", but the captions still work. I need Flash to ignore the error so it stops crashing the browsers!

I'm trying to use Flash Media Server (on Amazon) to read in a video feed from a user's webcam, process it via my own executable, and return processed data (not video) to the user. For simplicity, let's say my executable finds the darkest pixel in the image and returns its coordinates, and I want the client to draw a cross at this location.
The client-side is working fine. It can send the video stream, and receive vertex data to draw. The server is half-working. It can accept connections, and send fake vertex data to the client. However I can't find any way to access the webcam stream.
Ideally, I would pass each frame from the stream into my executable for processing, with no saving to disk (or perhaps minimal saving to disk as a cache for P-frames). I've got the impression that this is impossible though, so another acceptable solution is to save the stream (live) to disk, and read it (live) from my executable.
Also, somewhat relatedly, I would like to secure the video feed as much as possible. Eventually I'll use SSL to secure it in transit, but for now I have the more serious problem of FMS sharing every stream it recieves. I'm sure there's an option to disable this somewhere, but I just can't find it.

I've heard a couple of people say only 50% succeed, but that sounds suspiciously low and the people saying that are probably all repeating the same rumor. My own very limited tests with various friends & colleagues work 100% of the time, as long as they have Flash Player 10, but that's obviously not right either.
Do you have some data from a largish test or deployment of home/corporate users?

I want to embed a flash to my site, that allows the user to paste an image which is in clipboard, and this images will then be uploaded to the server. Is there a script that can do that? i googled for about an hour now, but didn't find anything that fits my needs.
the best thing would be if you also coul crop your image when its uploaded and then save it.
it's most likely to upload screenshots, so that you don't have to first save it, crop it, and then upload it.
