I have read that Adobe Flash CSS 5.5 support compatibility for ActionScript on both devices. Will be interesting to know plus and minus sides for both languages? Remember that we have to develop application for both devices, and we have a small part of that application already written in Java.
View 2 RepliesCurrently we are in the design phase of an application that will allow two users to communicate with each other using chat and video (with audio), the application is a web application that currently is a java web app with Spring and hibernate, but we want to incorporate video and chat between two users and we are evaluating the options to developing it, so far we have two choices, either develop a Flex UI that leverages its video and chatting capabilities through Red5 or something like that and communicates with the Spring app using BlazeDS or a completely java based approach using (maybe) JMF and/or applets to achieve the video and chat interaction. The question is, which would be the most scalable approach to develop such an application?, what would be the approach that is the least intrusive from the end user perspective?

The sliders provide values from 1 to 10. The flash movie then generates a gallery based on those provided weights. The user may want more gadgets than cars or all cars or more cars than gadgets etc. Im a tad lost as to where i should start here...XML? MYSQL? should i start swatting up on AS3?
View 13 RepliesWhat is the best (and simplest!) way to record video from a webcam to the local filesystem--all from a browser? Ideally the video would be recorded in HD and then we could use ffmpeg later to convert it into the formats and sizes needed.
Here are some things we've looked into:
Use Flash to stream to a local Red5 server. But we've had issues with video quality here. A Java applet using JMF (can we even write to the filesystem from an applet?). We've heard this might not be very efficient though. Can it handle HD?
Write a custom Firefox plugin. Would this be very difficult?
Basically the hardest thing here is that the controls need to be embeddable into a browser. All we need is a box where the webcam frame is displayed to the user, and then some Javascript hooks so we can code start/stop buttons within the HTML page.
The computer is fully controlled (it's a kiosk) and we can do just about anything to it. We just need a solution that runs in the browser. Our current app is run in Firefox in kiosk mode and the webcam recording is just a part.
I have an application with webcam, chat and more, and i need to record the screen aplication in server, for the client not have to upload the result. What I want is to know how to record the images shown in the Flex application (only inside the swf).

View 2 RepliesI have an image on my frame. (a circle). I need this circle to blink on the screen based on user's input. The circle display time and the hide time should be input in a input text box in the beginning. Also this has to blink for "x" number of user defined cycles. I know how to control the delay between blinks but I cannot control the amount of time the circle stays on screen.

User types something in text field, and then starts clicking backspace many many times to remove what he just wrote, and for some reason, instead of removing characters from text field it tells browser to GO BACK and user navigates away.

If the user first resizes the browser and then loads the flash application, I could not get the full browser width untill the user goes for full screen. Is there any way around, to get the full browser width before the user goes for full screen.

After reading a bit on methods (there are many) I went with zerofractals bridge component ... basically an external interface wrapper that manages calls to the javascript api. Well, its been frustrating for me... some calls go off into limbo and generate no result event.. it hangs on various calls, never on the same one... im just over it. So now i need to decide what to try next.
I have had a hard time finding good flash/facebook documentation. I would love to see a good working example. As it stands, in addition to the above api frustration, my app chooses not to ask the user for permission the first time they come and doesn't load at all. They have to hit refresh. Lots of little **** like this is bugging me.
Does anyone here have experience with this? I need something that is reliable. I was hesitant to use the adobe library because you have to compile your api key and secret in it. Now im thinking about giving it another look, I can always bring those strings at runtime in from a protected place I guess.

I am trying to develop a menu tree that has these basic functions:
1. No heavy graphics - basically the information is more textbased.
2. The menu tree works within two tabs.
3. The menu tree using rollovers.
a. The rollovers display a graphic image or text in a "TV" box, display, underneath the actual menu tree.
"Master Swap Action" - there is also a horizontal tab selection available. The master display, largest display area, is changed based on the "Master Swap Action". Also, the menu tree is swapped out. The two areas that are swapped out correspondent to the tab's that were selected. Here is a small sample of how we control the Menu currently. It uses a language called iMint.

We want to develop a broadcasting application, there would be a main broadcaster on video, with a lot of chatters. There would also be some chatters going on webcam (6 max). I'm still checking out NetGroups, IP Multicast, RTMFP Multicast, Fusion etc. but I am still lost. I also want to make sure that people who can't support RTMFP can be a part of the program by using RTMP, if that's possible right now to combine RTMP/RTMFP in such a big broadcasting application.

From my current research, it seems the tools I need are:

I am trying to develop a flex 3 application that would appear like a vertical/horizontal hierarchy. It will represent the flow of any application based on user selection.
Here black dots represent the nodes (description) that could be furthur divided into sub-nodes having their own description. White nodes represents the end-point of that expanded view branch. Each node represents some part of application,
The administrative portion is where our super users can either define a location as a numbers of rows, with a number of seats in each ( ie a cinema/concert lokale). The other option they have should be a much more flexible "seating" arrangement. Here we want the superuser to be able to upload an image and then draw places (ie a camping place). The user portion is either a simple page with all the rows of seats drawn or a view of the image with the drawn places overlaid. The user should then be able to choose a number of "tickets" and select places. For the fixed map, we want the tickets to be sticky (ie if you choose 3, they should be seated besides each other if possible?
