User clicks on a 'capture region of screen' button.They get some sort of draggable/sizable box they can use to define the area to capture the captured area gets converted into a (preferrably) .png image is uploaded (or at least made available to upload - maybe saved somewhere).I realize this is not doable with javascript alone.So,I am open to a Java or Flash solution, and/or even a commercial solution (a drop-in java applet that I can add to our site).
Is there a way to create a screenshot of the browser in Flash? I know that in Java this is possible, and it will popup a dialog asking for trusting the signed Applet, but is there a way to do this in Flash?

What are the options (or is it possible at all) for a web page (running on a remote server, not localhost) to access a data stream (not video) coming in via the USB port of the local computer?
Ideally this would work cross-platform (Windows, Unix, Mac anyway) and the local computer would not have to download/install anything to make it work (beyond what you can reasonably expect a computer to have)
An embedded Java applet seems the only way, but I'm wondering if there's any other technologies that could do it. If the restriction is lifted so that the user can install something (basic for non-techies, not setting up a local server running node.js for example) does that make more things possible (Flash?)
Is there a tool, any type of programming library, or a way to capture live feed of Flash video and save it? I don't want to capture the screen but rather like to capture the actual feed.

View 1 RepliesI'm considering making a Flex/AS3 based web application but worrying about some employers (i.e. potential customers) that don't have access to Flash plug in version 9 and up. Why? Maybe their corporate standard for browser is old; maybe they lock down employees computers which prevents users to download and install the plug-in or an alternate browser; maybe Flash's ubiquity goes away in the next 3 years given Adobe's recent announcements; etc.Anyway, my question is, would it be possible to insert a USB Flash drive into the client computer in question and run a Browser having flash (e.g. chrome) on the USB drive (assuming such a browser has already been installed on the USB drive), to access the web application with full functionality? I'm just trying to think of workarounds if my customer doesn't have flash plug-in and can't download to install it.

I have several components who's screen position depends on the resolution of the monitor on which the browser lives.The problem I'm encountering is that the flash.system.Capabilities method pulls the resolution of the primary monitor attached to the computer. In most situations this isn't a problem but on one of my computers, I have a 1680x1050 and a 1440x900. At work, I have a 1920x1200 and a 1680x1050, so if I open the page in a browser on the smaller monitor, things are not centered and my tools panel is completely off to the right of the screen.
I have a block of javascript that I've tried, both in html and through php but the problem is that if I use either httpRequest or urlLoader to grab the html file, I get the source of html and if I try the php script, I get a script block that is attempting to write a cookie. If that page has not been visited prior to loading the flash site, or if cookies are disabled, it never gets written and I'm nowhere.Is there a method that I can use, that doesn't rely on cookies, to detect the resolution of the monitor that the browser is actually on, and not just the resolution of the first monitor?

View 1 RepliesI am looking for a way to create and display up to 200 stage screen shots. Currently I record each screen shot in a BitmapData object, then play through all of them. This approach works but it takes too much memory - crashes some browsers.
What is the best approach to solve this problem? Can I create .png's, .flv movie or somehow compress BitmapData?
Is there a way to take screenshot of the client's window using flex?

the code are working properly for now except it captures the point from 0 x axis and 0 y axis. I need it to be like 150 on x axis and 150 on y axis.

View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble with my computer and the latest version of Flash. What happens is that everytime i get in contact with a flash-based media on the internet (Youtube, banners, games, etc.) my computer freezes and after 15 seconds it starts 'melting', as in the pixels slowly turning blue and black. This happened right after i installed the latest version of Flash. I have to take the battery out of the computer to get it working, which is offcourse not healthy.
Does anybody have an idea what this is due to and how it can be fixed? I am pretty desperate.
I'm running Vista, 32 bit, and the latest version of Firefox. Any time I enlarge a video I'm watching on a website that uses the Flash Player, (youtube and others) to full screen, the computer eventually locks up. The video continues normally, but hitting escape does nothing to reduce the video back to the smaller size. I then hit CTRL ALT DEL and still nothing changes. The mouse can't move the cursor, hitting tab doesn't work, nothing.
I've tried uninstalling the Flash Player using the offline uninstaller, and reinstalling the latest Flash Player using the offline installer. I've gone to the Flash "about" page after each of those 2 actions to make sure that Flash is completely uninstalled, and reinstalled. I've also run CCleaner after uninstalling Flash Player just to make sure no registry entries, etc. remained.
I have a game that allows people to arrange images however they like, but I need a way for users to take a screenshot/image of their design (stage) so it can be emailed. I've found loads of examples that use server side scripts such as php (JPEGEncoder) but this particular program I�m creating is for internal office use only and don�t have access to a server to upload it.

I have looked at the .getPixel method but that creates a ridiculously long string and more often than not, will crash the swf in the browser. How I could possibly approach this. Oh, I need to do this in AS2 too.
