Javascript :: Disabling Script Max-execution-time In Flex?
Apr 2, 2010
How do I completely disable the max-execution-time for scripts in flex? The configurable max is 60 seconds, but I'm calling off to other interactive processes which will probably run much longer than that. Is there an easy way to disable the maximum script execution time across my entire application?

I'm working on a project where we use Flex, Spring, Hibernate and Blazeds,all working on a Weblogic server.Everything works fine and we call services at the server side from the flex app without problems,but now we need to limit the time who spent the execution of the services to 2 seconds, if any service takes more than 2 seconds the server must return a timeout to the flex app.I've been searching for a way to do this with the blazeds configuration, but it looks that it's not possible.Is there any way to achieve this? I've thought in add a filter to the blazeds requests so it can control the timeout... But I can't find any example and I don't have enough knowledge of filter.

I am working with an older (CS3) file in CS4. I have some simple javascript on an actions frame on the site. Example:
Code:
commercial_btn.onRelease = function() {
getURL("JavaScript:openWin('commerical.html', '600', '620')");
}
For some reason this code is being disabled when I publish. When I click on it in preview, it brings up a browser window. But when I publish it, on my computer that is not connected to the internet, it says something like "Adobe flash player has stopped..." and when I test it on the computer which is connected to the internet, it doesn't do anything at all. Only one Javascript pop up works - it has slightly different code and is in a different place. I tried applying the code to these other buttons but no luck.

I am building a Flex and PHP application in which I am providing users a Save results option, which will invoke the php service that generates the results file. I then have the FileReference.download (url) function with the url of the file generated. Problem here is the popup to save comes before the file is even generated in the server. So user will get the incomplete file as the file generation will take atleast 10-15 seconds.
printToFile.token = customerTyped.printToFile(customerArray,displayno);
var filepath:String= "[URL]"+displayno+".txt";
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(filepath);
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.download(request);**
I think the function(service) call to PHP function
customerTyped.printToFile(customerArray,displayno);
does not wait for it to return and continues to execute the next statements asynchronously. How do I make the download dialog to wait from popping up until the printToFile php function is completed?

I have been trying to understand the way ActionScript's events are implemented, but I'm stuck.I know that AS is single threaded, which means that only one event handler will be executing at a time, and also means that handlers will be executed in a deterministic order*.For example, consider the following code:
1: var x = {executed: false};
2: foo.addEventListener("execute", function(){ x.executed = true; });
3: foo.dispatchEvent(new Event("execute"));

I'm going to be using Flex 4 with Spring and Hibernate.Everything is configured and working. I know this as I can do simple queries, like listing all values in a table.Problem is when I try to perform a 'select' query, then I get all the values, as I was getting before, and not the specific attributes through Select query.I'm a beginner, so kindly overlook my lack of more technically sound words..but I don use them as I don wanna mis-quote.This is class used to store data coming from the MySQL database--
package flex;
import java.io.Serializable;
import javax.persistence.Column;
import javax.persistence.Entity;

Is there a way to measure the average time it takes my code to run and each frame to render for my Flex app? More specifically, I know how to use getTimer() but I'm not sure about which events I should listen to in order to do this. I was reading this post and am not sure how you'd figure out how long the actual rendering took (it would seem like it may be the time between the RENDER event fires and the next ENTER_FRAME event fires, but I'm not sure). Also, not exactly sure where the user code happens, or whether I should care about EXIT_FRAME and FRAME_CONSTRUCTED. [code]...

Is there a way in spark datagrid to disable some rows programmatically, in flex 3, it could be done using the function mouseEventToItemRenderer this way:
override protected function mouseEventToItemRenderer (
event: MouseEvent): IListItemRenderer {
var listItem: IListItemRenderer;// = super.mouseEventToItemRenderer(event);
[Code]....
And then I implement the function disabledRow to return true or false depending on some condition, the condition that will specify if the selected item will be renderered or not. Is there a way in spark datagrid to do the same?

I have a list with a dataprovider, it lists out buttons encapsulated in an item renderer. All I want it to do is have a skin that it changes to when it is clicked. I can get this to happen, but then it just goes back to its up state. I want it to stick on the down state, which I have to do by disabling the button.
So I tried this:
buttonList.selectedItem.enabled = false;
for(var i:Number = 0; i< buttonList.numChildren; i++)

(Flex 3) I have a TextArea component which needs to hold the user's clipboard content. The TextArea does the job relatively well for most cases but when pasting a large amount of data, I can't seem to get the content in the component at all due to the script execution timeout.
I've done a fair deal on investigation to try and hopefully find how I could make this work. I found that the TextArea is using a IUITextField (which is in my case an instance of TextField at runtime) do handle the job of obtaining the pasting data and then throws an event when it is done.
I have found no way to take a look at the source of TextField as it is a class in the playerglobal.swc library.
Is there a way for me to maybe see the source of that class or is there something I'm missing in my approach to figure out a way to make this work?

I have a button in my flex app that creates a popup overtop of everything. However, it seems like flex automatically puts this transparent overlay overtop of the stage when this happens. How do I disable this? I have tried contentBackgroundAlpha="0" and backgroundAlpha="0" with no luck. anyone know what the proper syntax is for disabling this transparency? I have been searching through the docs for a 30 minutes now looking for it.

for some reason, whenever I dynamically load a swf on a $(document).ready() by writing to a div, I am unable to make javascript calls to the browser. Specifically, all calls to the browser return "null". This does not occur when embedding the swf normally on the page load, but I would like to prevent loading of the swf until a specified point in time.
What the heck is going on here? Is there something special about dynamically embedding a swf that prevents the swf from talking to the browser? The methods ARE called (I've proven such by showing alerts), but all return values to any function, regardless of type returned, shows as null when it gets to flash.

We're currently building a Flex application using the PureMVC framework with a shell.swf which loads/unloads modules dynamically. We're experiencing issues with memory and we're looking to replace the shell.swf with a JavaScript-based loader.Two questions:What would be a good framework to dynamically load the Flex components and allow the modules to communicate between each other?Would dynamically loading/unloading the modules via JavaScript take care of the typical memory problems associated with Flex/Flash applications?

i have mentioned that my animation needs to work for 5 sec. On 1024 to 1600 monitor it woks fine. But on smaller monitor it's too fast. How do i slowdown based on screen width. i.e animation needs to calculated based on screen width, say i mention for 1024 width it needs to work for 7 sec. Even if the screen decreases it should work for 7 sec. Again on larger monitor since width is more again and time is less (7 sec) the animation is again fast so here again the time has to be increased.
