I've messed around a bit in Java and Visual Basic. For our class we've been assigned to make a flash game in groups, and our group has decided they want to do a base defense game. I've been looking hard for open source/tutorial versions of a simple base defense game, but all I've found are tower defense games.
I have a tile based game à la Scrabble where tiles are placed on the board.. during the game the tiles must all be touching, and there should be no groups of tiles anywhere else on the board..I can find single loose tiles and check for surrounding tiles easily enough but how would I go about checking if every tile is touching on a horizontal or vertical axis and if there are loose groups of tiles on the board ??

I was trying to make a game, and the character inside the game could swim. However, I only wanted him to swim in short bursts that refueled every time he hit the ground.
I've noticed recently (the last week) that when I open Flash CS4, the Tools panel and the Actions/Timeline/Compiler Errors/Output panel group are not automatically open, like they always were before. Does anyone know of anything I could have changed by accident?
At the same time this started happening, I have a file that has a moving hot spot that is set with keyframes (depending where the active button is on the bitmaped screen capture behind the button). Even though the button's onRelease handlers are advancing the timeline correctly, my button is not in the right place in the runtime version. If's still fine in the development environment. It's like the layers are out of sync with each other.
I have about 5 layer groups in Photoshop and in each of the groups/folders there are some layers with some text and other layers with isolated images and also layers with some layer styles. When I import this file into Flash I need each of the layer groups to be imported as a flattened bitmap image. I don't want any of the text to be editable or to have any of the layer styles intact. So if there are 5 layer groups in Photoshop, I just need five bitmap images in flash. I've tried doing this but it still imports the layers separately. I know I can flatten the groups in Photoshop but I want to keep this file editable.
I have to make a game in flash, and this game is the equivalent of 'Millionair' tv-game, so it's not so complicated and I have to give a badget to my Client.

so how would I go about making a DVD game like player 1 vs. player 2 or just player 1 solo in action script 3.0? i know 2.0 well enough and i know a little 3.0 but i am not an expert i am not looking for a complicated game just something simplistic with one question after another I just don't know how to make the options like a right answer a wrong answer and how that would effect scores. or how would i go about if player one got the question right it would go to the next question and if they got it wrong replay the question for player 2 and the points would reflect appropriately also how would i make a time limit for each question? i want to make electronic lock for my flash game (like in sci fi movies).whole game is written in AS2.it should look like this At top thers dynamic text box, under it there are 10 buttons labeled from 0 to 9 and at bottom there is button labeled ENTER.when you press any of the buttons it should write numeric value at dynamic text box( 6 digits code), and when enter is pressed it should check if code is ok.First part of the problem is how to make buttons to write series of numbers into dynamic textbox.Second is to write if loop which will on enter button press check dynamic textbox content and trigger some action if correct or clear textbox and allow another try.
Im trying to make a rhythm game in flash CS4 and Ive encountered this weird problem. there are no errors, im 99% that all the variables and stuff are named correctly. for some reason a movieclip i dont even address moves down automatically on the 2nd beat. it stops attaching "beats" after that 2nd one too. I have no idea what the problem is, or how to fix it,

Is it possible to make 3D character customization for game in flash? Any ideas, tips about that?. In 2D it's very simple but i don't know where i should begin in 3D. First of all - how character customization works in rpg games? Is character body and all cusomizable parts like hair face, solid model? Or it's just different objects in one container?

I'm tring to make a game like LineBirds on iphone. If you look up the game you will see there are black objects which is sliding from right to left. And these objects are sliding as smoothly but on flash player, as if they seem like shaking when they are sliding. More better to explain, i have put an example maybe you want to look up it to understand. On this file the black objects are bamboos tree. How can i solve that shaking problem.

I already understand the backend server work that would need to talk to the 'front end' part of the game i.e. how the flash game will make requests to the backend servers for storing/retrieving data in xml/json etc.

Are there books with sections that cover the process of making a preloader and menus for an AS3 flash game?My ultimate goal is to implement a preloader AND game menus without referring to the timeline.
I already made a game with flash, and I want to provide an easy download for people that would rather play offline. Thing is, i use a folder whole structure to dynamically load content per level. Folder structure looks like this, not that it matters that much[code]...
How should I go to distribute this? Should I just resort to make a zip file for the flash game and assume people know how to extract and open the swf? Is there any other way to port easily as an executable? Perhaps Adobe Air (not sure if this works though)?
I'm currently trying to make a basic escape the room game in Flash, and for some reason the last couples of entries I have made for the code aren't working. Right before adding these lines, everything worked and I already know that each object has been converted into a movie clip or button and has the correct instance name.
I'm trying to make a flash game have save files using shared objects and I'd like to keep all the data in one file with several children.
The three things I'd like to do are:Check whether the file exists (create a new file if it doesn't), then check whether to child named with text in an imput box exists, and if it doesn't create a new file (using the text in an imput box), and then set the value of that node to 0.
Then later I'd like to change that node to another number (the easy part).I'd also like there to be a way to disable the shared objects (incase the user doesn't allow shared objects).I've tried to do this myself using a few tutorials, but I could get it to work.I couldn't use the text in the input box to name the child,and I couldn't check the size of the child node to see whether it existed or not.
