View 7 RepliesI have a webpage where user enters details. These details are sent to php and session variables are created. My new swf then grabs these variables and displays them in a movie. Now the whole idea is for this movie clip with the details then to be sent to someone as a link. But, if the receiver then opens this link, they wont have the session variables though, and the details will not display.

I am trying to write a secure login using flash. I worked out that the login must be separate from the protected content otherwise a decompiler will get round it very quickly. At the moment I have a login swf that posts variables to a server side script which then creates a session for a valid user.
The idea is to then forward on to the protected content. However I am unsure how to pass the users info to the swf so a user could not modify before the swf gets it and thus see another members content or what I can do to stop someone just accessing the content directly by just knowing the swf file's location.
I wonder wether on a website like chatroulette for example, the streaming video is going directly from user to user or wether it is going through a server.
In other words I wonder wether it is possible to offer a webcam service on a website, so that the streaming video goes directly from user to user, without overloading the system.
Here's the battle plan:
User logs into website.
User clicks the Play button and a new window opens with the flash game in it.
If the user is logged into website, have the flash game load. Otherwise ask him for credentials.
Is this type of interconnectivity possible? Can I give a flash object (.swf) something to use?

Do I build the bar in Flash and then the HTML portion in dreamweaver or do I build it all in Flash? Would an iFrame work for this sort of website?
The purpose of this is too allow a user to upload an image from their machine to be displayed on a website. The code's pretty straight forward and i have it all working fine, but have come across an issue. When certain portrait images are selected to be loaded and displayed, they get rotated at some point in the process and become landscape? There doesn't appear to be any consistency to the way they are rotated. Some are clockwise, some counter clockwise.
The one thing i've noticed though, is that it doesn't appear to be an issue with images that have been re-saved (so simply taken into photoshop and then saved without any modification), only images that are the original source of an image taken by a digital camera? This has got me wondering whether there's a possible issue with flash reading the meta data of the source image? The attached zip file contains the source code and swf, a selection of images from 2 different camera's and a modified image.
Just to note, due to the dimensions of the images, in the source code the bitmap is scaled to 0.1 so that the result can be clearly seen. I've tested this without the scaling and the image still gets rotated. There's a trace in the Event.COMPLETE handler of the Loader.loadbytes() method and you can see from this that the width and height of the loaded image have been switched? Note - due to the size of the zip file (4.6MB) because of the images, i've put them up on my server for download instead.[URL]
i want to see if these "build a." flash sites (to support a user customized ordering process) are done using regular flash or Flex?

All of these "walk a user" through a customized ordering process and capture all of their selection and showing them all of their customizations (and ultimately bring them to a final ordering screen). What's going on under the hood on these sites and are built in flash or flex? Is the person creating a separate image for every combination that you could possibly select or is something else happening here?
I still can't figure out if Flex or Flash is better for something like this. (why does adobe make these seemingly basic questions so complicated) Are there any good resource or tutorials for try to build this type of functionality in flash on a website?
The searches that I did on this topic aren't providing me with any answers...that I can understand anyway. =*) Here's the situation.In the past, I did computer-based-training using "a different authoring tool." One thing I discovered I could do with that tool--which really opened up new possibilities for me--was to use that scripting language to create a snapshot of the current window and save that image as an object/class. Then I could access that object, resize it, save it to disk, and load it in later. The result--for my training at least--was a visual bookmark of their location in the training should they have to save and come back later.I would now like to do this with Flash.specificially CS4 and AS3.If anyone can point me in the right location to get started,For clarity, the steps are:
1: Take a snapshot of the current Flash window / Stage. I'm not concerned if the snapshot remains "in Flash" or goes to the Clipboard as long as I can get to it in the next step.
2: Access that snapshot from where-ever it's stored.
3: Process the snapshot and reduce it to a thumbnail, etc.
4: Save it to a file that I can bring back into the .swf at a later point. I'm not real concerned about the format of the file as long as I can bring it back in later. How do I save it? I would love to be able to save it to the user's machine but last I checked
Flash won't do that sort of thing. Can I save it as a file on the server that the .swf is running from using perhaps a PHP call /script / page?
5: And, of course, recall the image to be used at a later point. I already have a pretty good handle on this from past experiments.
I'm doing some newbie tests, so I decided to capture the keyboard events to move a rectangle. But I don't get the desired result. Unless I click on the TextArea box, I'm not able to capture the event key code. After that, all goes pretty well.

I'd like to display a group of squares following a pre-determined path to create rows. Like row 1 to 10 would be Row1(), 11 to 20 Row2() and so on. The main reason for this is to hide the Menu before actually showing/building it. After the Menu is build up, I could remove the squares any way I want to reveal the Menu behind.

I am working with loadVars in an swf file embedded in an html page. The script is written to add a text string to existing textfield. The documentation I have does not address this situation. How do I get the return value from the server to the embedded SWF file in this situation?
View 4 RepliesThis is giving me major headaches! I'm having trouble even describing the problem in words. Basically, I want to be able to manage a core library (coreLib) of Actionscript classes with the following requirements: latest version is checked out when a new project starts. a dev can make changes to the coreLib and then commit them back into the repo as project is written (maybe bug-fixes, added features, etc.) the project contains a 'snapshot' of the coreLib so that, if returned to months later, it (as automatically as possible) has a copy of the coreLib that has guaranteed compatibility with the project.
I tried using externals but this can break compatibility going backwards. I'm currently exporting the coreLib into the project and its VC'd along with the project. I can't figure out how to get the changes back into the repo though, without just copying over the top and losing history.
I'm dealing with the scenario whereby my code might be included in other Flash content either included via import .as commands and then referenced as a Singleton, e.g.

Let's say I have 5 .swfs that I am loading into one movie. Am I better off having each .swf load one after the other? Let's say once the first one is 50% complete, the second one starts etc. This will help bring the individual .swfs on faster but it will probably cause the overall load to take longer. Is this a correct assumption?

I am creating a touchcreen (LCD) for a property development.We I am having a problem is on the interactive map.Picture a map with icons all over it.When you touch the icon a image of that area of the map pops up.you then click on a X on the top right to go back to the map.I have probably dont this incorrect and those only because I dont have much knowledge.I have create the map on the lowest layer.The icons (same graphic - eye) are on there own layers.I converted the icon to a BUTTON and added the pop up on the DOWN.The problem I have is when you touch the icon on a layer other than the top layer the top layer icon shows on the screen (ontop of the popup).
