I have an OOP PHP site structured with a MVC pattern. A page on the site has an embedded SWF that needs to pull information from a database. In the past, I would have just had a procedural php file for the swf to load the data from the database from. However, that method doesn't seem like it would fit with a more objected oriented site.
What would be the "proper" way for the swf to load external data? Should I create a class and a MVC pattern in the normal structure of the site that can pull the data (e.g. mysite.com/flash/data) and just pass this path to the swf as a FlashVar?
My apps need to load xml as data external. Sometime, the content of the xml file will be changed. How do I know when It happened. Acctually, I dont want to check by loading all data of the xml file. Maybe, we're using time modified or something like this?
I've really looked hard to find an example/tutorial for loading external XML data into a DataGrid component using AS3. The code I'm using at the moment has the XML data in the AS code.
Here is the code that is working for internal XML data: import fl.controls.dataGridClasses.DataGridColumn; import fl.data.DataProvider; stop(); var emailXML:XML = <emails> [Code] .....
it works fine, but i want the file data.txt, to be in a different domain than the swf. When i write loadText.load[URL] the swf doesn't work. How can i solve this problem?
I use flex builder to compile a single class to load an text data from the same domain.it works perfect in IE browser. But something is wrong with the firefox browser.take a look at the following code:
Below is the script I'm using to pass a parameter to a script in the same server (and folder) as the flash file. It gives "null" as the required variable (use_url) value, instead of what the script is giving. The script itself works, when tested in a browser.
What it should do - it receives a value for "lesson_id" variable, passes it on to a script "movie_url" and receives a response with a new variable "real_url" and it's value.[code]...
I'm loading external data from a txt file into a MovieClip. It contains data that is crucial to the presentation viewing. It is necessary to load, not right away but at some point (the sooner the better). When the txt is on the same server it works instantly, but I'm loading data from another server.
Two problems: the onLoad code is stuck if the file doesn't load (connection problem, server down?) and in offline mode what happens if the data is purged out of browsers cache (history problem)?
How can i handle these exceptions?
1. Some code that uses a "timer" to periodically try to load the data again if the connection is slow and the txt doesn't loads the first time?
2. When it doesn't load at all, and the onLoad fails, how can I simulate notOnLoad - exception for data download fail? And retry the dataLoad?
I've already made cross-server data loading possible using crossdomain.xml policy.
The site is still in development. This problem occurred when the server which contains the data.txt was down due to maintenance, and when one of the test-visitors was downloading so much in the background that his connection didn't had enough bandwidth to load data correctly (browser thought he had connection problems).
I have this Simple Flash banner, that loads text, colors, and entire banner hyperlink from external .txt file into flash. For importing text into dynamic text fields with vars set i use
Ok So everything works nicely. I load flash i load text, and i also load hyperlink. So after a happy job i went to sleep and other morning i tried to enter website with HTML code, that shows flash and i noticed:
1. Some times flash loads animation, but doesn't load my data.txt and places where dynamic text should be are blank, also hyperlink doesnt work, because it also seems to fail to load.
2. So i press "Refresh" on explorer and data loads perfectly.
3. So i keep pressing refresh some times try to turn of explorer and i noriced that some times it fails to load data and only non dynamic flash animation is played, and some times it loads it nicely.
I trying to load indivual strings of text from an external file. example: I have a movie that navigates from frame to frame. on each frame I'd like a line of text to load into the movie. When the user navigates to the next frame the text loaded vanishes and is replaced by another line of text. This can be done with separate txt files, right but I was wondering if and how it could be done using one external text file.
I have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.
I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. Rather than post my code and example images of the stage up here on the forums, I've created an html page here: [URL]
I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. For example:This is a "text" stringreplace double quotes with hex: This is a x22textx22 stringesults when read into flash: This is a <remainder is dropped>Yet if I type the same text string in a variable in flash, the string displays the double quotes properly:
I will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? (I'll probably make the data into xml format).
Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between <noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
I have this code inside my flash to name my navigation menu. Now I want to put this outside flash and load it via XML. How do save my different arrays into a variable for later use in my code?
In my nav fla (what i want to load from XML):
Code: // MAIN MENU ARRAY var mm_array:Array = ["MAIN1", "MAIN2", "MAIN3", "MAIN4"]; // SUB MENU ARRAY
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.
I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.
I currently have a Flash app that gets populated by parsing data from an external XML file. However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:
i load in AS3 data into flash and mantain their data type? Like receiving an array and even with arrays in it and recognizing that is an array instead of a standard string.
And if this is possible is it more reliable then using XML?
I am trying to have a PHP page load some variables into aFlash banner ad that will be running on 8 different websites...I need to have one central location for the PHP page andallow 8 other domains access this data...I am finding that when everything is on one server... noissues... data reads just fine...But when the PHP page is on one server and the SWF file onanother... the data never gets through...I am assuming this is some issue with security within
The function below belongs to an XML based photoGallery.swf... Its menu is automatically populated from the same XML file as well (thumbnail picture, title, description). The pictures load into an empty mc called imageContainer. In another empty mc called textContainer, I would like to load some text.swf from the xml list as well. How would you include that in the code?
Code: function loadTmbs () { var tmbs:XML = new XML ();[code]......
I'm currently working on a project that contains a lot of data, about 14.000 records. This means an xml file of about 3mb. Now my question is: Should I use the xml file to load all the data at once, or should I use a webservice, that provides the data when I need it? Keep in mind that I'm new to webservices. And if I'm going to use a webservice: How do I store the data, in a mySQL database? How fast is a webservice?
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
