View 1 RepliesI've been getting reports from users that certain objects are invisible in my flash banner.The browser culprit is IE 8 (but someone also reported seeing this in IE 6). I have been unable to duplicate this and therefore, find it very difficult to troubleshoot. I do have the Wmode set to transparent, but I've made it opaque and still had the "invisible" reports. Here is the site:
View 2 RepliesI have a BitmapData object created dynamically that contains user-drawn shapes. I then attach that BitmapData object to a MovieClip via a Bitmap object and set that MovieClip as a mask to another MovieClip. The mask works but the whole bounding rectangle of the BitmapData is acting as the mask. But I want to exclude the transparent portion from the mask so only user-drawn shape can be set as mask. Can anyone tell how to achieve that?
View 3 RepliesI want to use semi-transparent mask on external swf for smooth transition. I'm using
clip.cacheAsBitmap = true;
mask.cacheAsBitmap = true;
clip.setMask(mask);[code].....
it doesn't work... what am I doing wrong?
I made a blind effect but when i play this effect it show the white strip on the clip which look's very bad. Is it possible to make the mask transparent so the background look same only the text is hidden omn which the effect is implemented.All of this thing are done in action script.
View 3 RepliesI'm working together with some designers to build a project in flash CS4. They normally send me their work as either jpg's or png files. When importing a sequence of png files I find that flash slows down considerably... but not only that, when I try to copy and paste a symbol that contains transparent png in their timeline it crashes. For instance if I select a frame which contains a movieclip with png's inside from the general timeline, and try to paste that frame on another layer I will get a message of Flash stopped working and eventually it just closes down. I tried this on a version of Flash CS5 and it also has the same problem but worse, as soon as you press Control + C the whole thing closes down. I'm suspecting this is caused by large transparent png files, but I'm not sure.
View 0 RepliesFlash CS4 AS2 Okay -I have a flash movie, and I want to apply a mask to it. The mask I want to apply, or rather, the "shape" of the mask I want to apply is an external image that was made in photoshop. The shape is an irregular one with a bunch of jagged edges. the shape itself is solid, with a transparent background. I've tried saving it as a PNG with transparent b/g, and I've tried importing the PSD file directly into Flash - however - when I go to use this shape for a mask, the mask that is applied is an entire rectangle bounding the imported image - rather than along the edges.Hopefully you can see what I'm trying to do here, and perhaps offer some insight on how I can get this image into flash (let's stick with the idea that the jagged edged manner of the image is too difficult to recreate inside of flash).
View 13 RepliesIm using PS CS5 to build the parts of animation i am making in Flash CS5. Im not using PS for the animation as the GIF quality is horrendous, and also rotating layers for animation is a no go!Anyway, im saving the individual layers in (Save for Web) as PNG-24 files with transparency. Then importing them 'To Stage' in Flash. That side is all good.
When ive made the animation in Flash and go to 'Publish Preview' there is a 'background' there. Also there is a border around the files on the stage. This appears to be the size of the 'background' in the animation. Transparency is set in the GIF settings.
I'm working with actionscript 3 and have a trouble. I need to write player where users will see text on the front of the movie. The text is text field of type "Dynamic text". The problem is that I need to make this text object transparent for mouse move and clicks.
I tried:
.mouseEnabled=false;
.selectable=false;
when I click on it - it does not pass clicks through it.
Once I have a semitransparent object (with alpha not equal to 1) and put a glow filter on it, the glowing area is visible not only near edges of an object, but also under the object. It changes the whole look of an object, while it (probably by my logic) only should have changed the look of edges.
how to glow (or drop shadow) only edges of an object?
I have this text "my text is <b>bold</b> and regular".
I want "<b>bold</b>" to be... well, let's say... bold !
I have a mask layer under which there is a text field.
The text field shows htmlText, and i must embed chars. If not embedded, it doesn't display because of the mask. So the solution of importing 2 user fonts ( one bold and one regular) does not work.
I'm creating a playlist for a music player, and I've got the song names displaying correctly in my songTitle holder MC, but there's limited space for the song names to be shown in, and I'm going to eventually have it inside a scrolling movieclip. Problem is, the text inside the textfields disappear when I try to add a mask to the movieclip they're being loaded into. I've tried adding all combos of embedFonts, antialias, and blendModes I ran into, to no avail.how to mask dynamically created textfields with a non-dynamic (Flash IDE-made) mask.
Code:
for (var i:int = 1; i <= _size; i++) {
var pl_artist:TextField = new TextField;
//all embedFont = true and antiAlias commands no workie
}
first I had:
maskedImg = getChildByName("current") as MovieClip;
maskedImg.mask = mymask;
and everything worked properly. Then I removed the movieclip from the scene, exported it to Actionscript, and changed the code to
maskedImg = new mymovieclip();
addChild(maskedImg);
maskedImg.mask = mymask;
and now I don't see anything on the scene. If I comment out the line assigning the mask I can see the movieclip although. The mask is created dynamically in both cases.
the easy part is to create the image and the mask for it:
// The jpg
var elementImage:Image = new Image();
elementImage.source = "/assets/materials/9/main-body.jpg";
[Code].....
but that's not working here. the event listener reacts even if i hover over the trasparent parts.
if i draw an vector graphic and use it to mask the image it works just fine...
is there a way to apply the mask to multiple objects in as3.0 ? one i try to do it using the .mask = it can only effect one object at a time ...
View 2 RepliesI'm starting with actionscript 2 and I can't figure out how I set a collision mask for enemies and characters. I've got birds that flap their wings but I only want the player to collide with the body, not with the wings, as they take up too much space and it would be unfair.
I tried mc.setMask and other things I found online, but somehow it didn't work, ie: did nothing. I think I don't get the way this works. I thought you'd need like an invisible rectangle that it checks collisions against instead of the actual animation.
I want to mask everything off what's not on the stage. No problem for movieclips that I have put on a layer. But what do I do concerning an external swf-file? This swf-file is brought into my project via URLRequest and stage.addChild. It works well. But how can I manage to masking it?
View 6 Repliesi've created a sprite to drag and drop around the stage. the sprite is masked and has it's mask as it's child so that it too will drag along with the sprite. everything works fine until i add a drop shadow filter to the sprite. when the drop shadow is added, i can only mousedown to drag and mouseup to drop the sprite if the mouse events occur within the original location of the sprite when it was added to the stage.
var thumbMask:Sprite = new Sprite();
thumbMask.graphics.beginFill(0, 1);
thumbMask.graphics.drawRoundRect(0, 0, 100, 75, 25, 25);

I'm trying to make a flash game have save files using shared objects and I'd like to keep all the data in one file with several children.
The three things I'd like to do are:Check whether the file exists (create a new file if it doesn't), then check whether to child named with text in an imput box exists, and if it doesn't create a new file (using the text in an imput box), and then set the value of that node to 0.
Then later I'd like to change that node to another number (the easy part).I'd also like there to be a way to disable the shared objects (incase the user doesn't allow shared objects).I've tried to do this myself using a few tutorials, but I could get it to work.I couldn't use the text in the input box to name the child,and I couldn't check the size of the child node to see whether it existed or not.
what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).
I have two png files. I import them using loaders. The images in the png files each have opaque (solid) and transparent parts. I want to use the bitmapdata.hittest method to detect when their opaque parts have collided.

I've been working on this for a couple of days now and nobody seems to know how to do this. Please don't post the examples on google, I've looked through at least the first five pages of results on google and haven't gotten any of them to work. The problem is that none of them provide an example of using this method with loaders, so I'm guessing the reason I can't get it to work is some gimmick associated with them.
I'd like to use a conditional loop to generate objects dinamically and i'd like to know if it is possible to do this in Flash.I try to explain better what i want to do; i have to let users to choose a number of balls to display on the stage, something like this:var balls; //it contains the numbers picked by the userif ( balls == 0) display nothing on the stage;if ( balls != 0){for (n < balls){plot a ball on the stage
View 6 Repliesi have a dynamic text field within my mc. when I change the alpha value of my mc to 0 with script, my text stays visible.
View 1 RepliesI have masked the video clip. The masked clip is working fine. But the Actionscript 3, which contains 2 more SWF external movie clips not loading those files. Once I remove the mask they start working.
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to create a movieclip from the library dynamically on a certain event and then being able to target one specific movieclip by name after they've been created. I'm having problems being able to target and have tried a tone of different approaches, I think I'm close but I'm getting the error '#1006: getChildByName is not a function.'
Code:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;

i am facing a problem with dynamic text and mask,when i use a dynamic text and i am trying to mask the text area it's not showing in swf
View 7 RepliesI've got a project that loads video clips and text via XML. I'm trying to add buttons but I am not sure how to code them. The problem is, I'm creating 4 transparent buttons over four dynamic text fields. In the XML doc I have 11 different sections or groups of content. Those text fields with the transparent buttons change when each video finishes and a new section is loaded.
What I want to do is get the changing value of any of those 4 buttons that I click while one of the sections is playing and load that new section. At first I thought I'd just check to see what the current section is that's playing and then if I click on the button that represents the next section I would increase the value+1. If I click on the button that's supposed to represent the third section from the current one then I would code the button, current section+3 and so on.
That would work fine but If I'm on section 9 in the XML and there's only 11 sections, I can't add "current section+3" because that would go to section 12 and there isn't a section 12. I would want it to go and load section 0.

I have created a Flash file which will act as our company's standard presentation / portfolio of all previous projects. I've pretty much got it running the way I want, but I've just tried it on a few different computers and realised that the fonts aren't embedded. I've used our corporate font so it needs to look right. Having read the following documentation [URL] I now understand how to embed fonts for one dynamic text object at a time. However, I have a lot of different dynamic text objects in the file and I would dearly love to embed them all in one step! The same embedding options can be applied to just about all objects, as they're all the same size and font.
View 15 RepliesI'm attempting to create a graphical representation of the microphone activity in flash for a conference.
I got a movieclip called eqNotch that's just a rectangle and its linkage name is EqNotch.I also have a movieclip where I am writing my as3 on the first frame, its called dynamicBar and linkage name is DynamicBar.
I've successfully written the code for the dynamicBar to create one column of eqNotches and the number of rows is dependent on mic activity.[code]...
I searched for a solution everywhere but cant seem to find one. I found the tutorial below on creating a dynamic mask that basically draws a mask over an image. I am basically trying to replicate the exact same effect only i need it inverted. I want to basically erase the image. Have the image there then with the mouse cursor erase the image.
I guess i would normally do this using blending modes or an actual mask on the timeline using layer but in this case the mask is drawn dynamically so im not sure the best approach. To make things easier to understand what I am trying to achieve is the effect of cutting a piece of paper using scissors and have the paper "erase" as i hover over the paper using an attached movieclip of scissors. I have everything working except the "erasing" of the paper.
