May 31, 2011I'm building a simple task manager that will at this moment execute tasks in a serial manner. I have been reading about threads in flex and it seems it is not quite clear/prepared for real threads.
What I'm looking at this moment is a way to execute a method at the beginning or end of a flash builder update. This method will be the one that will take the responsibility to start tasks added in the previous update. The removing of finished tasks will be done through event notification (the task will notify it finished) then the scheduler will remove it and dispatch the message again to let the outside world know the task was over.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Prevent Simultaneous Execution Of Multiple Button Threads?
May 20, 2010My AS 3 program has multiple buttons. Users can select one and then immediately select another and this causes 2 threads that collide. Once one button is executing, I want the other buttons to ignore clicks.
The problems are twofold: 1) the first time the 2nd button attempts to execute (by checking lock), when it returns (from checking lock) and attempts to pick up processing where it left off, it seems to forget where it was and does not utlimately complete its task(s); possibly variables have been altered, it is difficult to say. That is, AS 3 is unable to successfully pickup where it left off on the first button. the second problem is that AS 3 incorrectly returns to button 2 after the lock condition is cleared. It persists and will execute that button.

I then turn my developer_identity into a .pem I then try to export it into a p12 and I get an error saying that my key doesn't have a password. Why does this keep happening and what can I do to solve it? I created a p12 on a mac, but it won't work when I try to use it on a PC.

Oct 18, 2009I am able to disable mouse events on a movie clip with a single frame using the mouseEnable property and setting it to false.However if the movie clip contains multiple frames setting the property to false does not disable the mouse events.Do I need to disable for each frame of the clip? Or is this outside the box for movie clips.I have tried .enable and .mouseChildren to false also.I have alternatives to what I am trying to do so I am trying to determine if I am missing something.this is basically my code, this code will ignore events if I change the movie clip to a single frame.The multiple frame movie clip is made up of 5 frames of bitmap symbols and functions properly.

Aug 20, 2009Is it possible to override/replace a method of a class in AS3? When I say "replace", I don't mean subclass it and override it. I mean I literally want to replace the existing method with my own. For instance, AS3 has the built-in HTMLLoader class which has a load method. I want to say, in essence:
HTMLLoader.load = function() { trace("Overridden"); };
Therefore, when *anybody* makes a new HTMLLoader object and calls the load method, it will call my method instead.
I've tried a couple things, and so far I've gotten this far:
HTMLLoader.prototype.load = function() { trace("Overridden") };
And I compile it with -as3=false -es=true -strict=false. The problem is it doesn't override the already-existing load method. It looks in the class first before looking in the prototype, thus making it not work. There must be a way. Even if I can't override it, can I proxy it like a decorator in Python or a macro in LISP? (So mine gets called then it gets called.)

Feb 20, 2009i've a problem with my setFocus. i will use [n] to identfy the line in the code. this is a MouseEvent.CLICK - function from an other dynamic,non-selectable textfield. the textfield in work is one with an embeded font and some text in it.if i use line [3], i'll get the no blinking courser and no possibility to enter some words. also if i mark some other and click after that in the input-textfield directly there will no courser anymore.but this only happens in the first time using the swf. if i first click into the input-textfield, then set the focus to something else and trying the steps i wrote over here, everything works fine.

Dec 16, 2009I need to build an "interactive floorplan" for a shopping centre (or two). Many shopping centre websites already have this (eg Bluewater in the UK). Traditionally, the way to build such a floorplan / map is to do it in Flash. The actual floorplan is a Flash asset and the data that describes which retailer is in each location is fetched from the webserver as XML. That way editors can update the location of retailers without having to edit and recompile the SWF file. However if the floorplan itself changes (for example, a larger shop is split into two smaller ones) then the map has to be edited. Another disadvantage is that the data isn't readily available to third parties for mashups etc. So apart from Flash what would you consider using to achieve the same effect? I know of SVG but IE doesn't support it.

Feb 29, 2008implement closed captioning into my FLVs. I have successfully set up the FLVplayback component, and the FLVplaybackCaptioning component to work. That's not the issue. The issue is, once I have my swf, flv, and xml files (needed to successfully use CC in a FLV), I need to insert that .swf into my captivate project.
It appears to insert/import OK, but once I publish the project, the swf does not appear, and in fact the FLV icon sits on the slide rapidly blinking. Neither the video plays, nor can I even see the playback component/closed caption component (swf) that holds the FLV.
All paths are relative, so the only things I can think of that may be causing the issue are:
a)Captivate doesn't support CS3 FLVPlayback or
FLVPlaybackCaptioning components
b)Since Captivate allows importing of FLV files directly, running the FLV through the component's swf is a problem
c)The hierarchy of files needed for the Closed Captioning FLV (xml, flv, swf), interfere with compiling the new Captivate .swf
upon publishing I've also been told that the FLV captioning component only works in Actionscript 3.0 which runs on Adobe Virtual Machine 2.Captivate publishes .swf files using Actionscript 2.0 which runs on Adobe Virtual Machine 1. Therefore, what I need to do will not work.

Jul 26, 2009I've written a Flash (Flex) client connecting to a back-end server to exchange data. I've also written my server from scratch, and it serves two purposes:
(1) Web (HTTP) Server- By default listens on port 80
(2) Socket/Application- Server - By default listens on port 443
Just FYI, both servers run in the same process space, for convenience reasons. They are not expected to handle massive loads, so I'm fine with that. As soon as the Flash client is served to the browser from the HTTP socket, the client attempts to open an XMLSocket to the Socket/Application server. I now want to implement HTTP tunneling, so that my client can connect to the Application server even if the user is behind a firewall. I do not want any external servers involved (proxies etc.) - simply use the servers I already have.
My questions:
(1) Is it better to use port 443 for that? (does it better fool firewalls?)
(2) As far as I can see, what I am required to do, is just ensure that my actual application data is simply encapsulated in an HTTP structure (preceded by a dummy HTTP header), both from the client and server sides. Is that so or am I missing anything here?
(3) Do I need to keep hiding/encapsulating my data every message I send through the socket, or can I just encapsulate the first message when opening the connection?
Flash - How To Implement Domain Protection In AS 3.0
Sep 7, 2009I want to limit my SWF file so that it cannot be stolen and hosted on another server. So if the domain serving the SWF file isn't on a list of approved domains, the SWF will not load normally but will instead display a message that links to one of the approved locations. What I'm unsure about is how to access the domain that is hosting the file (or get the fully qualified URL of the file). If You know how to get that information, I'm using Flash CS4 to compile the code targeting FP 9.

My question is: Is there any reason not to use Adobe Flex for such large project apart from the obvious point of requiring everyone to have Flash installed and not having to rely on Adobe? In my view Adobe Flex would reduce the server load for Facebook, because more of the work could me done on the client side.

Mar 4, 2010I have a List component from which I'd like to be able to remove items using drag & drop, but without having a specific target. If you use the mac, the behaviour I'm looking for is something like what the Dock uses; when you drag something out of the bounds of the control it should get an icon that indicates that it'll be deleted (OSX uses a cloud or something?) and then if you release it it will be removed from the list.
