I have completely forgotten how to get a "return" to work in a text box. I thought I read it once in the flash Bible, but haven't been able to locate it again even with hours of search. Basically, I would like the dynamic textbox to print material on multiple lines through some kind of format command similar to <break> in html.

Whenever I use ExternalInterface to call a Javascript function in Firefox, the Javascript successfully returns a value to Flash. However, in IE, I always get 'null' for the return.
I know Flash is successfully calling the JS because i have an alert in the JS function that is firing. It's just the return that is null.
In the first frame of that movieclip, I'm importing an external swf with Loader class,(Using actionscript2 but my main flash page using Actionscript3),It is loading well but when i pass to second frame and return to the first frame again, the Loader doesn't work. (i'm using addChild(); to show external swf)

The app sends an FQL query to get the user's albums, generates thumbnails based on cover_object_id. This part works fine. After clicking on an album the app loads photo thumbnails in the same fashion. We've just discovered that although it usually works, for some people and some photos instead of a thumbnail facebook returns the following error:

The photo thumbnail request URL:[url]....The query used to generate the list of photos in an album:

Essentially some photos return an error. The object_id of the photo is valid as it's pulled right from the FQL result - here is an example of an actual request that returns the error, complete with token https:/[url].......
Edit2: The above approach didn't work, for some reason. Some pictures would still result in an error. Fortunately the FQL tables had properties like "src_small" and "src_large" which return the direct link to the photos. Even though graph supposedly allows to retrieve any image using it's API I had to fall back to the src results from the query - I guess that was a patch of sorts for situations like this.
Can a function return a textbox? if so, is there a difference between returning an input textbox and a dynamic one?[code]...
View 4 RepliesI'm having a problem in the input answer textfield where if the user presses return the cursor goes onto another line then if they click on the check answer button it will count the answer as wrong because of the extra spacing. Does anyone have some code that would disable the return key functionality?I realise that changing the textbox to single line would prevent this but it does look messy if a long phrase is entered.

Is there a way to force the text to scroll to the top after it jumps to a new page?

I know that as3 has some powerful new text search capabilities, especially when combined with regex. I don't even know if this is possible, but I would like to somehow, search any block of text, and return all nouns, adjectives and verbs. What would be the best(most efficent) way to do this? Is regex an option? or would I have to load in some sort of open sourced dictionary 9as used in spellcheckers) to compare with or?? After, I've pulled all the nouns, adjectives and verbs, I need to count and prioritize by their frequency.

I have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. View 1 RepliesI've got a text field pulling XML and its CSS. The XML has a few long lines of text it uses as links. The links are long enough to word-wrap in the text field. Now, if you were to select the text, it would only select the words. However, the blank area to the right of the wrapping link is still an active hotspot for the link somehow. I wouldn't consider this a problem if clicking the blank area didn't return the text field to the top (it is scrolling text). It gets very distracting and hard to track where you are in the text.

I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? I guess the best way to explain this is that I want to animate the text so that it types itself. I tried using a mask so that it slowly uncovers the text, but for some reason the code for the button that I inserted at the beginning of the flash seems to somehow prevent the mask from working, so the text just appears there and doesn't move or anything.

View 21 Repliesi'd like to make an effect with "alpha", but when i'm using a particular class to set the scrollbar on my text, the text does not respond to my alpha. You'll see that the text does not respond to the alpha 0 at the beginning of the tween.
