ActionScript 2.0 :: OnMotionFinished And Calling Other Functions

Sep 6, 2006

I have this function that builds menus, and I'm using a tweening class function to move the menu items around. The thing is that when calling the tween function I need the submenu building function to wait until the tween is finished otherwise things start freaking out. It's organized like this (pseudo code):

[Code]...

The problem is that I need the first tweening to finish before I can build the submenu. I've tried using the onMotionFinished, but it doesn't seem to want to call a function nestled into another function (in this case buildMenu()).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Use Tween.onMotionFinished?

Oct 29, 2009

I am trying to create a photo album, and I need the image to fade out, load the next one from XML, then fade back in...trouble is, when I tried a simple fade out, load then fade in, there wasn't enough time for the fade out to take effect and it loaded the next one instantly, so I need to pause the load section until the fade has finished...

[code]...

Oh, P.S I know I'm fading the alpha the wrong way, but to fade the images directly created some funky and undesirable effects, so I'm fading in and out a white rectangle that matches the size of the image.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tween.onMotionFinished Repeatedly?

Jun 26, 2006

I'm trying to animate entirely in AS for the first time. (Woo!) I'm using the Tween class, with the very convenient Tween.onMotionFinished to invoke my next animation. But once I get pretty far into it, it starts to look like this:

[code]...

I've found that, when applying a tween to a function, I am unable to refer to that tween (specifically, onMotionFinished) from outside of it. This works okay but leaves me with some rather ugly ActionScript!

fairly simple. but here's what i'd really like to do. i want the first tween to execute (_xscale) and then after that is finished execute the (_yscale) tween. i've thought about using onMotionFinished...but am not exactly sure how to go about getting it to work correctly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tween Class / OnMotionFinished - Stop The Tweens From Playing

Aug 20, 2008

I am currently creating a menu system for a site, that when hovered over expands from a short strip into the larger menu containing buttons/graphics etc. To reduce the number of frames used within the site, i am trying to achieve this method using the tween class / onMotionFinished action as opposed to having a movieclip which plays through when hovered over. However if you move the mouse off before the "loading in" animation is complete, it begins the "reverse" animation and seperate titles both appear on top of eachother.

Basically i need to stop the tweens from playing, should the user hover away before they are complete, like a movieclip would "rewind" if you were using that well documented method. Below is the script, and I have attached the .fla for you to have a look at.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling Tween From A Custom Class?

Jun 11, 2009

i am making a simple slideshow in AS2 (Flash CS3). I got all the core logic working fine in a FLA frame action - now trying to externalize it into a class. The first snag I hit was in trying to setTimeout -- when I passed a class method as the setTimeout function, it no longer could talk to the class variables/methods. I fixed this by passing along an instance of the class to the class method called by setTimeout something like this:

setTimeout(myMethod,delay,classInstance);

Now I've got a similar problem with my Tween.onMotionFinished() handler -- i want it to call another method in my class but it doesn't know what the class is or how to access it.How should this be accomplished? I've tried a similar trick in which I try to stash a class instance inside the tween (through bracket syntax eg. myTween["classInstance"] = this; but this doesn't seem to work.

Is this a case where I basicallyneed to create an event listener in my class & then just send an event out when the tween finishes? Or is there a simpler way to let the tween know about the class (without relying on instance names of the class itself)?I'm still new to OOP so not completely got my head around what can/can't access my class methods/variables especially when I'm creating objects like Tweens inside my class.

here's my current SlideShow.as class:

Code:

/*
imports
*/
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;

[code]...

and then I just create a slideshow from an existing framesequence MC (who has stop() on frame 1) in the FLA thusly:

Code:

import com.pixelfarminteractive.slides.SlideShow;
//SlideShow(slideMC:MovieClip,easeTimeSec:Number,holdTimeSec:Number,numSlides:Number)
var ss = new SlideShow(slideshow_mc,2,2,4);
ss.start();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling A Variable (tween) From Another Frame?

Jul 29, 2009

This is my first time working with flash and actionscript. when my project increased in size, it became frustrating to look through 2 or 3 hundred lines of code to find my mistakes. I decided to code in frames, so that one animation or movieclip could be handled by each frame, making it easy to edit each individually. So far so good, but i am trying to reuse a tween from an earlier frame, and it doesn't seem to work. I was under the impression that if you define a variable in a previous frame, you can use it in a later frame.

here's what it looks like

(frame 5)
var closeMenu:Tween = new Tween(mainMenu_mc, "x", Strong.easeOut, 238, 900, 3, true);

there is a frame in between that does: gotoAndStop(20);I want the animation to start right when it gets to frame 20:

(frame 20)
closeMenu.start();
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I can copy and paste the original var and change the name from closeMenu to, say, closeMenu2 and it will work fine, but I feel like what I did should work.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Find A Function That Will Repeat Rotational Tween Function

Aug 8, 2007

I'm trying to find a function that will repeat my Rotational tween function. I found the yoyo() function to be what i want to do but i don't want the tween to change the rotation to CCW while originally moving CW. Basically i want the animation to move CW at a steady rate continuously.

I'm using the following code at the moment, i'm not too sure if this is the most suitable code for this situation, maybe im off track.

From my thoughts, i assumed that i would need to put the stars function in a onEnterFrame to repeat the animation and change yoyo() to continueTo() function. or maybe some sort of if statement in the stars function?

ActionScript Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
var stars:Tween = new Tween(ring, "_rotation", Regular.easeInOut, 0, 360, 4, true);
