I was dealing with some sample code for a FMS applicaion.There is a certain code(Server Side Action Script 1) that uses a trace statement to print out a sentence.However when the program runs and executes the method,the print statement does not get printed on the'output' in FLASH.The code is as follows:

Ok, this is a function that used to work...so I didn't check it for a while...and I did not edit it from when it was working in any way...but now the print function does not produce a page from the printer...when I click "Print View" the print dialog box comes up, and I can choose my printer, and when I click ok, there is a tooltip near the windows clock that says document sent to printer, but the printer never does anything...I have tested this in several printers and several computers...I have also tried to output to a pdf...and it allows me to choose a file name to save to but it never creates the file...

Who can explain why mc2 movie gets printed in snippet below?

If I comment last line then mc2 is not printed. I assume the reason is that mc2 becomes visible before printNum is finished. So, is there a way to know if flash is done with printing?
Is there a statement in AS3 that will return current class and/or scope? I'd like to use that in trace statements so that I know the exact location of a trace.

View 3 RepliesI am trying to make a print button that will print the contents of a mc...this mc basically holds a dynamically drawn floorplan which can be zoomed and panned...I want to be able to print the contents of the mc, and only what is viewable in the mc at the time of the print...so if you are zoomed in, all that prints are the actual objects visibly seen in the mc...I think it may be with the print command using bmovie but I have no idea how to assign a #b lable to the frame.

I am well versed in Photoshop and getting somewhere in Illustrator, so the Adobe learning curve is not a huge factor for me. I have not, however, done much work in Flash (or any, really). I want to create what should be a pretty simple animation and I'm wondering what the best approach is. Also, I've never done any ActionScript work but do have extensive development experience. I have access to Flash Professional and Catalyst, PS, AI - all of Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium. I would like to draw/design in either PS or AI something that looks like a photo booth.
I want to animate some photos being printed out and falling out into the tray or whatever... just like what you see when a strip of four photos prints out in one of those booths at the mall or the movie theater. I want to do it a few times with a few different pictures. It would be easiest to just "hard code" or embed which pictures I want in the movie, but if I could eventually do some ActionScripting to just pull all images in a directory or (best yet) from the Flickr API that would be really awesome too. I just need to know where to get started. Should I try starting with FP or import some AI into FC?
I have a flash item on my website and I have Flash Professional CS3 software. On the main index page I need to remove a printed name and replace it with a logo. Is it possible, I can find directions on how to do it?
View 12 RepliesI have a large Group which contains two rulers and labels for distances, and a varied amount of smaller groups consisting of images and labels. Now my task is to print the large group on a page with a header and a footer. The large group extends outside the edge of the page and pushes the footer off the page. If I was printing just the Group, I could use
printJob.addObject(myView, FlexPrintJobScaleType.SHOW_ALL);
to fit it all on one page, but that would scale the header and footer as well, which I don't want - I'll be printing more pages and want the header and footer sizes to stay the same.
Is there a way to scale only the group and its contents automatically before printing?
I am not able to print more than 5 pages in one go. I want to print almost 12 pages in one print job. I am creating the movieclips of each page by adding the dynamic data in to it and store in an array. When all the movieclips created and stored in an array(pagesAry) then it call the following function to print those pages:

View 3 RepliesI've an AIR app which prints a couple of DataGrids with approximately 3 pages worth of data each. I get great-looking printouts, but the printing is slow - I noticed that printing these 6 pages + a title page and a page of lightweight images was sent to the printer in a file of almost 50 MB (on Windows). Is this a normal size for a printed DataGrid? Is there anything I can do to make it smaller and faster?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to print an MC that is on screen with a dynamic text field in the MC - its printing just fine but the placement of one of the elements is off. Basically I have a dynamic text field centered on the stage, however when I print it, the text field moves to the very right on the printed page, while the rest of the contents of the MC stay centered. To clarify on the printed page I basically have this nice page with centered text, but the dynamic textfield is moved all the way to the right of the page.

I can't quite figure out the small problem with the code. It seems to just bypass the first requirement of the if statement when I do type in the proper input and go straight to the else statement.

The idea behind this app is that its an electronic form. The user fills it out, the information is then sent to a newly created XML file, months later the open the XML file in flash, and Flash fills out text fields and check and or unchecks Checkboxes based on the XML data.CheckBoxes are mandatory.But I don't see how I'll be able to use them if i can't create and condition statements based on the loaded Data.

I'm teaching myself ActionScript and the book I'm reading just got into input text capabilities. The book shows me how to link input text to a variable and output that text to the output window using trace. My question is: how can I display the text that the user input onto the actual movie. For example... if I wanted the visitor to type their name into the input text box and click Submit and then a phrase shows up with their name such as "Hold on Name, my site will be done soon." How do I reference that variable and have it actually display in my movie?

The type count is correct but the information for the project is wrong.
I need to write an if statement inside an if-else statement. But no matter how I write it it keeps giving me a syntax error.The syntax error is "1083: syntax error: else is unexpected".[code]No matter how or where I place the braces, it keeps giving me errors.

the problem is obviously that the compiler reads this code rather than understanding I'm trying to regenerate the code within the for loop...does that make sense :S? So basically I need as3 to read the code between the for statement as if it is going to echo that out later. Is this even possible?
