I'm reprogramming a particle explosion system for a game I'm making with AS 2.0 and I got troubled with the process of loading a attaching images dynamically inside a movie clip. The following code will explain better what I mean:

When you load an image into a MovieClip then use that as the data source to draw() into a BitmapData object, the documentation says "Optionally, you can specify whether the bitmap should be smoothed when scaled. This works only if the source object is a BitmapData object." To me that implies that a second BitmapData object is needed in order for the optional [smooth:Boolean] parameter to work when set to true.
We found we didn't need to "double buffer" in this way when using MovieClip.attachBitmap() with the [smoothing:Boolean] parameter set to true. We did run into another problem though. This problem only manifests itself when you run the SWF as part of an HTML file running from a local web server like http://127.0.0.1. Here's the problem: images are loaded dynamically (URL's pulled from assets.xml) and the ones that are loaded locally from a directory on the same machine load and are smooth and distortion free. Other URL's point to a remote host. The images loaded via a remote source (example) do not "smooth nicely" running the exact same code as the local images. The remote images are shimmery and exhibit update artifacts. If you run the exact same page not via an http:// web sever i.e. - just loading the html page into the IE, then the remote images do get nice smoothing when animated.
Is there some magic to get BitmapData loaded from a remote source to smooth correctly when run from a local web sever? For our internal demo we removed any remote URLs so we could demonstrate that Flash does provide the ability for nice smooth animations but it would be a good problem to solve.

Basiclally a simple thing, however i dont get an idea on how to solve this one:
Say I have a sprite which is already existing during runtime and at some certain point I want to attach some custom data to it, say, in a string.
How would I do that?
s:Sprite = new Sprite();
s["extra"] = .... gives me an error, so i got exactly that far till here.
s.name is already reserved for another string and for sure I thought about just adding a TextField with the string inside to it, like
s.addChild(myStringTf);
But I know there is a better way, I just cant find it. hasOwnProperty() just returns a boolean true in case i match the value already assigned to it, right? Isn't there a way to attach an annonymouse object to it?

I'm working on a large bitmap background site and for some reason, I can't get the bitmap to resize (with the correct aspect ratio) upon loading. It only works after the window has been resized. When I try to call the function after the bitmap has been loaded it displays nothing until the window is resized.This is my Actionscript:

How do I attach data to a movie clip that is generated dynamically?
In my code below I create 3 green boxes. I want it to trace the sequence number of each box after it's clicked on, but I can't figure out how to make that happen.

I'm developing an AS3 module where the user interacts with certain hardware. One part is highlighting the hardware's features when the user hovers certain points on it. There's quite a lot of work to be done here (about 6 modules with about 30 highlights each) so I figured I would make it as changeable as possible.
On the stage I've placed all instances of a movieclip that acts as the pointer for the highlights. This movieclip uses a class that animates it upon mouseover/mouseout (hence only two animation functions are required for them all). At the same time I want to display a unique text for every point, and this is where the trouble comes in.
I figured I could attach data with each instance to the class somehow, and then create a new text field upon accessing the class. This is what I came up with:

As you can see I tried using the instance property name to attach the data, it failed though (I didn't get a compile error for this but I couldn't retrieve the data in the class).How would you approach this? Do I have to create a variable for each instance's data, then match them (same number etc.)?

Im trying to build a script that attaches and positions an instance of a movieclip for each node of an xml sheet. However, I can't seem to get it to loop properly. The script is simply attaching and positioning the movieclip according to the last node in the xml file. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?!Here is my script:

I am working on a game that involves a play head (called playHead) moving along the screen and when it encounters various movie clips it triggers a sound to be played. It is all going well except that the sound seems to want to play more than once, so there is a staggered wierd sound. Is is possible to make the sound only play once and also it needs to play until the the sound has finished. (the sounds are all very short).Here is the code:

I have a loop that creates mc from a database

I try and assign t[i][0] which is the table id to the name attribute but I jsut get 'instance4' or instance 14. How can I give these dynamically create mc's a name or custom property?

I have these 2 seperate mc's, one is a scroller, and one is a drag bar,.. (which is a nice script that has easing and rotation"fake/real feel drag") trying to attach them together so that the scroller can be dragged with the bar. But when I do that the scroller buttons dont work? Does anyone know if there is a way to attach them together so the scroller can be dragged and still work? Will attach Zip with Fla File....

In the first frame of my main movie i include a AS file.In that as file there is a MC attached from the liberary named shoutbox_holder. In the shoutbox_holder mc I attach 5 movieclips window1, window2.. also from the liberary. This works very well, because I see the mcs in the debug mode.

I want the shoutbox_holder to attach to a scrollpane, so i did drag a scrollpane to the main stage from the componentspanel, deleted it and drag a instance from the liberary to the stage, then In the contentpath field I insert shoutbox_holder(pointing to the mc created in the as file).

I'm an advanced flash developer and action scripter with more than 4 years of experience.I need to have an explanation to this problem. I have created a vector shape mask on the timeline that does different shape tweens. There is a movieclip container that is under the mask. When i dynamically load a movieclip from the library into that masked container, it will disappear after the keyframe of the shape tweened mask is reached. Why is that so? Isn't that illogical? I attached a simple fla demo.

I'm having issues trying to reference a movieClip after attaching it. What I have is:

The first is creating it on top of the other items that are created during the game. I can't have the instructions on the timeline and just change the visibility of it due to all the assets this game is making. The instructions variable is used in an if statement elsewhere in the game to lock the user controls so they can't create anything else in the game while your viewing the instructions. The second function is the one that should close it. The movie clip that's attached has a button in it, with the instance name btn_close. The trace doesn't even pop up so it's not targeting it correctly. Yet when I go to 'debug' and 'list objects' both mc_parchment and mc_parchment.btn_close are listed as being in the scene after clicking the instructions button.

i have one movieclip in Library named 'Tshirt' and this shape is like Tshirt.Now i have 2 diffrent blank movieclips named 'blank_mc' and 'blank copy_mc'.I am adding 'Tshirt' by CS3 code in both movieclips diffrently.After that i am masking blank_mc with blankcopy_mc.Now when i add some thing in blank_mc, outside the tshirt area then it also visible, which should not happen because one tshirt is masking the other and i added some movieclip in only blank_mc.What the mistake i am doing?

I have the following code in a file called HelloWorld.as:

I open up a new AS3 file, go to Properties and enter "HelloWorld" in the class field. Then I press ctr+enter to play the resulting swf. Nothing happens, not even a compiler error.

Im having 5 Mc's on stage : room1a to room5a.I want to add when the clip runs on the start, an onRollOver function to each MC's dynamicly , as i did here :

Is there some secret to attaching sound via a loop? I have had to hard code this and write it out 26 times.
