AS3 :: Flash - Check Keyboard State Without Using KeyboardEvent?

Apr 10, 2010

Is it possible to check for pressed keys without using the KeyboardEvent?

I have an ENTER_FRAME event setup called enterFrameHandler and I want to check within the function enterFrameHandler if any keys are pressed.

normally when using a KeyboardEvent I could check for keys easily using a switch that checks the KeyCode of the event, but in an ENTER_FRAME event this isn't possible for me.

Is there any other way of checking the keyboard's state within the ENTER_FRAME event?

UPDATE:
I found this AS2 script:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
_x -= power;

[Code]....

This seems to be doing what I want, but it's in AS2, does anyone know how to 'translate' this into AS3?

PLAY And Stop PLayhead Using Keyboard Events In AS3?

Feb 2, 2010

I want my animation to STOP when I press SPACE, and then PLAY when I press SHIFT. This needs to be in AS3. The only catch is that my whole animation is composed of 5 Scenes. Would this be a problem? Also, I'm confused as to where I should add the code. I have it in a class and it still doesnt work. I tried putting it on the 1st frame on Scene 1.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop Action Interfering With Keyboard Commands

Nov 10, 2011

I have a simple Flash movie, and have used AS3 to allow users to hit the up arrow and go to a certain frame, then hit the right arrow to go to another specific frame. My problem is the minute I put in "stop();" in the script so my movie stops on frame 1, the keyboard controls do not work unless I double-click the playing video. The minute I remove the stop command from my actionscript, the keyboard controls work perfectly...but my movie obviously starts playing which I do not want.

I need both the stop command AND the keyboard controls, and am at a loss.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop Keyboard Action Repeating When Key Is Held Down?

Apr 10, 2009

I'm developing a game for my final year project at university that has a character who can move up and down on screen. The upper half of the screen is reflected in the lower half so that there are actually two characters on screen at once, each reacting exactly the same way to keyboard input.One of the mechanics involves the two avatars changing positions relative to their halves of the screen which requires a spacebar press to execute. The problem I'm having is that I don't want the characters to change positions once every frame if the spacebar is held down. I need to implement some sort of delay once the spacebar is pressed so that the characters won't swap positions for another second or so.

Code:
var plachaFlipPointY:Number = char.mc.y;
var shadowPlachaFlipPointY:Number = schar.mc.y;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Start / Stop Motion Tweens With Keyboard Event

Jul 10, 2011

What I want to do is create a powerpoint style presentation. But rather than change slides, I have one large "graphic" that I am moving around and zooming into by "motion tweening". Now all I need to do is: (with a keyboard event)
Start the motion tween and then let it play out
Then start the next motion tween and let it play out
and so on...

All I have is this, which allows me to start and stop it when it is tweening, but isn't as effective as it stopping at then end of a motion tween, then allowing me to push a key and for it to go to the next "slide".
Code:
stop();
var isPlaying:Boolean = false;
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, keyUsed);
function keyUsed(event:KeyboardEvent){
if (isPlaying){
stop();
} else {
play();
} isPlaying = !isPlaying;
}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Double Check The "keyboard Movement" On This SWF?

Mar 12, 2010

I have already stumbled across two games (I mean... um... work related Flash stuff, yes boss, I'm working) which get "choppy" when you hold down the key to move (though it should apply to all keys)You know when you are typing in word, if you hold down one key, first you get one letter printed, and a second later it writes that letter really fast multiple times until you release? I believe that is what is happening that makes those games choppy. This is likely because the "KEY_DOWN" event gets dispatched very many times for the same reasons.

Now, either both those games were crappy enough so they forgot to test for this issue, or it's a Linux specific issue. I need you (yes you) to double check (stating your operating system and browser) if you get the same results.If you hold down the key to go left, (or right, doesn't matter) first you go left smoothly, and then after a second it starts "chopping" and resetting the movieclip's frame to the first walk frame.

Code:
mcChild.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(mcChild._x < mcParent._width){
mcChild._x += 5;
}}

Now I want to stop the .onEnterFrame check, because it reached the if = false - How??

ActionScript 3.0 :: Asynchronous Keyboard Controls - Stop Listening To An Event As Soon As Another Event Has Been Dispatched?

Nov 1, 2009

i have a question to ask about asynchronous key controls This was what i did

[Code]...

and i checked with [URL]...?newspage=6249 and it looked more or less the same, so why is it that when i move my character and when i hold down a key, it just keeps on listerning to that keypress event listener, instead of just executing the other event. So say, i tap left and after which i tap right, it will work just fine, but if i hold left and tap right, the event listerner will still be listening to the left key. So, i was wondering could anyone point me in a direction as to how should i make my code stop listening to an event as soon as another event has been dispatched?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyboard Events (movie Clip Moves Via Keyboard Control) And Scenes

Nov 7, 2009

I have 2 scenes. In both scenes, I have a movie clip that moves via keyboard control. If the goto next scene is triggered by the movie clip in the first scene the keyboard control works in the second. However, if I use a button to move to the next scene then there isn't any control over the movieclip in that scene. I've traced the keyCode in the second scene and it is picked up but the switch statement doesn't run. I'm migrating to Actionscript 3.0 and updating something I created in 2.0. I would like to do it without writing a class.
