What is the best way to clear the contents out of an array or to reset an array?
Say I have 3 arrays that get populated throughout a specific time. I want to be able to reset or clear out all of the data in the array so it is basically a new Array();
I have created a bitmap that contains the content of a loader.I want to clear the content of the bitmap everytime the loader loads an image.
Here is the code:

I have added some movie clips to the stage using addChild method on Some Mouse Events.Now on an event say Mouse Double Click I want to clean the stage.I checked the Stage class from reference it does not have any method called clear.Neither I have stored the references of the objects, so that i can clear them using removeChild()

What is a good method to remove a value from an array once it has passed a certain length? For example i only want my array to hold 5 values.
Also, is there a method for clearing the entire array, ie removing all values? Or will i have to manually change all the values with a loop?
what im thinking is each mc loaded is pushed into the array then on the press of a button or keyboard press the array is cleared and the movieclips that were inside the array are removed from the stage. trouble is i dont know how to write that. some guidance would be great.

View 1 RepliesI've got an application that has several slides. Each slide has a sound file that goes with it. I created a function on the root timeline that plays the audio sound. Each slide loads one after another and works great. However I have next and previous buttons for each slide. Each button makes the sound channel stop. If I press something too quickly the sound in the sound channel isn't overwritten with the new sound.
So basically I want to know how to remove all sounds from the sound channel so I can load a fresh new sound. Because the stop command only stops the soundchannel until the next sound is loaded and then it starts playing the sound again. It seems like the sound channel is an array of sounds and I don't know how to clear the array before pushing a new sound to it.

I have an array that holds some other arrays and I want to return just the name of the arrays that it holds, not their contents. In this example I want to trace the string "myDays_ar" but can only get the contents.

i've tried changing the 'for' loops for both the 'n' and 'i' variables to decrement them and also tried idnum.reverse(); but i can;t get it to work.
It's a news page so i'm basically trying to get the newest story(which is attached to the highest id number in the databse) to post first and then post the rest in descending order.

What I'd like to be able to do is use the contents of this array to switch GUI elements on and off.As an example, I've got a movie clip called cowItem on the stage. View 2 RepliesI'm working on a game whose background has many layers that each scroll at different speeds.
Inside each layer I have a Sprite, I've started using graphics.beginBitmapFill, but what I've found is that the graphics.clear() function doesn't actually clear the contents set by the previous call to graphics.begin.BitmapFill. Each frame, I adjust the matrix to shift the layer as needed. Then, I call graphics.clear() and graphics.beginBitmapFill() with the adjusted matrix. Since my layers have alphas in the bitmap, I can see the contents that was drawn the previous frame.
Currently I am trying to create a mini map which i can populate with the contents of an array.I can make any size grid with little to no trouble in AS3, for arguments sake I have been trying to get a 4x4 Grid populated.I can even make listeners inside the new class but i cannot figure out a way to give each new MiniMap tile a unique identifier like i would of in AS2 and then assign the current frame to play.I have looked around and tried a few tutorials with no success.I have been using this to create the tiles (inside two for loops to make the grid)

Is there a way to push the contents of an array to a textfield with a line break in between them?

When I write the set of bytes from the server side (php) it writes the details of the byte array (buff) to the file instead of contents of the file like "endian=bigEndian&position=0&bytesAvailable=61127&length=61127&objectEncoding=3" . Below I have included the code that how I read the file and send it to server. Is there anyway that i can directly pass the data in the byte array to send method?

I have built a simple Flash application that will be presented using a projector, the application will show messages in the form of questions that will come from a simple flat-file text file or XML file.
In addition to this I would also like to be able to add my own messages using a simple HTML form.
I've been looking around the web for some resources, but have been struggling to find what I am looking for. The basic idea is that the flash application will loop through these different messages from the XML, but then when a user types in a message that will also appear within these messages. Think of it as a sort of dynamic tag cloud.
Is it possible to pass the contents of an array to JavaScript code which then creates a text file on the local machine?
