ActionScript 2.0 :: Converting String With Formatting To Integer?
Jan 27, 2009
I'm currently trying to convert a string that I get from a text box to an integer. Seems simple enough, but the string's got a pile of formatting on it.
Reason I used this is because I knew that the formatting would stay the same so I can slice off the same amount each time.
What I'm wondering is, is there a more elegant method of getting the entry that I want out of that mess of formatting? If not, then is there a way I can minimize the formatting?
Note: I'm using Adobe Flash CS4, with ActionScript 2.0.
How I should format a long integer into string format with commas? I don't know if there's a built-in func for this, but I haven't found it. raw int: 2000000 parsed string: 2,000,000
I'm having some trouble converting a string to an integer. Here is my code:
var str:String = e.currentTarget.name as String; // Getting values like "song1", "song2" str = str.replace("song", ""); // Changes it from "song1" or "song2" to "1" or "2" var num:int = str as int; // SHOULD be converting the "1" to 1 and "2" to 2 trace("num:" + num + ", str:" + str);
The trace is always outputting:
num:0, str:1 num:0, str:2 etc..
The str value is there, but when it gets put into num then it zeros out.
I'm loading some data from an external .txt-file.In the .txt-file i have this:number=40I want to manipulate the number like this:newNumber = this.number+1;...in order to get the new number to be 41, but when I load the number from the .txt-file it is loaded as a string (am I not right?).How do I convert the number to be an integer instead of a string, so I can manipulate it?
How do I convert an integer to a string value? This must be easy. "Ya guys in SO are da best at explaining." I'm still working on these dumb counters.
NEED TO JOIN THIS TOGETHER
//My counter project "sends to dynamic text field" var timer:Timer = new Timer(10); var count:int = 0; //start at -1 if you want the first decimal to be 0
I need to add values in a string (they're strings because I get a date as timestamp from a database and then pluck it apart in Flash with substring). Flash doesn't do math with strings. So is there a way to cast the string into an integer value?
Is there a way to take all the letters out of a string and then use it as a integer?If that is not possible, is there a way to take the first three letters off a string variable? i.e. make myVariable='pic1' into myVariable = '1' Yes? no?
I've got different functions in actionscript 3, one function generates random numbers each time there's a button click. But with another button I want to call the random number which is generated at that moment. I have to call the random number from another function then, but these are two different functions so it just considers it as an undefined property.
[Code]...
But I can't call randomnummer1 because it's inside another function. So I get the property undefined error.
I've got a .txt file hosted on a freewebs, which my actionscript gets some variables for (for easy updating of statistics).
I want to do be able to do math in actionscript with these numbers I'm calling up from the .txt file, but the problem is that when I call up the variables, they are recognized as a string, instead of integers.
How would I convert the string to an integer in actionscript, or write the number in the .txt so that it's recognized as an integer.
string = justsomerandomstuff.Count:12562morerandomstuffI need to extract the "12562"I never know how far in the string this number will be, but I do know it's 1 character away from the word "Count". Somehow I would need to find the position of the string "Count within the variable, add 1 and extract the numbers. Also the the number is not always the same lenghth, so it would also have to work with this:string = justsomerandomstuff.Count:14238960morerandomstuff.
grabbing / formating a string.My mission is connecting to a web site - let's say domain.com/one.html - which returns the following html code:
Code:

1,1,4,20,1,128,Harry J. All Stars - The Liquidator

What I am looking for is a actionscript function which returns the text after the 6th comma - in this case:
Harry J. All Stars - The Liquidator
The thing is: The numbers are always different, but the text I want to "grab" and "show" in mytext.text (dynamic text) is ALWAYS present after the 6th comma.
ok so i have this function basically it adds text to a given position in a textfield. it adds the text in the correct position but the problem is that it is screwing with the formatting i've applied to the textfield.
here is my code:
ActionScript Code: txt.text = "hello world"; // adds text at the character index specified and returns the new string. function addText(txt:TextField, txtToAdd:String, index:Number):String{
[Code].....
i also have a function which deletes but that isn't important right now. i was trying to avoid using html text but at this point i'd willing to give virtually anything a try.
I take a date (as a string data type) from the user. Now, I want to know if there is a a function in actionscript that will convert it to a date format. Right now, I am just parsing the string and concatenating the pieces back together. i.e.:
But for months like May, it will return "5" and not "05". I have similar problems for days like "9" or "7." Is there something in the library that will do this for me? (For the moment, I can go ahead and manually concatenate the "0" in front, but this seems like a hassle to do.)
<mytext> My name is <color value="FF0000">Bill</color>. </mytext>
I wonder if there is a simple methodology (using E4X methods) in order to print the inner text: "My name is Bill." in a text area and having the word "Bill" colored i.e. red.
The generalized situation is, if i can print the inner text and use XML tags to specify formatting attributes of the text per word.
Do E4X supports this type of parsing, or do I have to program my own "little" parser for this situation?
I am trying to convert a string having numbers to an integer.
//15 9's are there var str:String="999999999999999" var res:Number = new Number(str);
But it is not able to convert correctly as the the var res now has the value 100000000000000000. I know that the number has 52 bits of memory, then why is it not able to do the conversion?
I'm processing this code inorder to automatically add to the front or end of a line found in an xml file titled textXML.
Here is the processing code:
[Code]....
This traces the correct line of code from textXML, but the shows up in the text and doesn't add the carriage returns. The crazy thing is, it works if I replace textAddition with "
". I figure this is happening because of some weird formatting issue. So I've tried many ways of formatting the textAddition var to a string. Each time has had no effect.
Code: //declare variables and create arrays var initx=80; var inity=80;
[Code]......
Alright, what I am trying to do here is get 15 buttons arranged on the stage in a random order. The buttons are all named "butt1" "butt2" etc. First step, getting the numbers 1-15 in a random order in an array (successful). Then I concatenate "butt" before the number so the array contains the button names.
However, when I try to place them I get the following message:
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property x on String. at numbersgame_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
Flash is interpreting my array values as strings rather than the buttons they are supposed to be, and failing as a result. How can I fix this?
My code is below. I have an external Class AS file doing most of my code but I need some of the moviClips to highlight areas (other movieClips) when they're rolled over. I've kept instance names the same + an H for their highlights to lessen the amount of code and be able to use array's and for loops.
My code is below and brings up this error: Actionscript Code: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "areanaH" to flash.display.MovieClip. at EnterpriseZone_fla::Layer1_1/end() [Code] .....
I have a string that stores an object's instance name: var instName:String = e.target.name; and now I need to use its information to do something like this: instName.alpha = 0.3; but since it is a string it causes this error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property alpha through a reference with static type String.
I have this bit of code. The highlighted area (I think) is causing "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties. at firstStep_fla::MainTimeline/placeDef()" The error appears when I go through the "match" section.
import flash.display.MovieClip;import flash.events.MouseEvent; var numRight:Number = 0;var originalX:Number;var originalY:Number;var box:Rectangle = new Rectangle(0,0,450,380); makeInvisible();
