I'm using the sortOn method to sort my array. concider this array:

No matter how i sort the dataTag array it never puts the information into the respective order. The 10XXX figures always come ahead of the preceeding numerals. Anyone come across this before who can point me in the right direction?
I am trying to sort an array that is generated thru an xml file.
The XML has "sections" that are used to generate a different view type, it is NOT used here but is needed for other features. What IS used is the artist name & ID. This function takes the data from XML and takes the name and ID from each section and puts it into 2 separate Arrays, "nameArr" and "noArr". After these two new arrays are created they are sent into an object "sectionData". The objects are then sent into a new Array "multiArr". This looks a little overkill but it is needed to create a new array without the section info.
I am trying to sort this new array multiArr using the "sortOn" method by "ID" to sort it by id but it is not working. It doesn't sort the array.

the accent above the E in Édouard-Montpetit, and any other first letter with a non-english accent is sorted after Z.how i can sort this correctly? i do not have access to the named data.
I have an Array of objects that each have a Name and a Score. I can sort the Array with '.sortOn()' by the object's Name or the Score, but when I sort by the Score, if some Names have the same Score, they don't list Alphabetically within that Score.
The following code shows what I mean. The Names with a Score of 50 are together when listed by Score, but they are not Alphabetical. How do I combine both ways of sorting?

I have an array of objects. The objects have a base class with various properties. Each time an object gets created, I push it into the array. However, I need to sort the objects based on one of their properties.Lets say in my object class, I have a function "ReturnNumber()" that returns a number, I want to sort my array based on which number was the highest. The trace is always outputting:

The str value is there, but when it gets put into num then it zeros out.

Cat 2
Cat 3
And the title property can hold values:
Title 1
Title 2
Title 3
So that you wind up with something that looks like
Cat 1
Title 1
Cat 1

Cat 2
Title 3
etc.
Now, I want to sort these, but we all know that Array.sortOn(["cat", "title"]) will produce results like:
Cat 1
Cat 10
Cat 11
Cat 2
Cat 3
What's the most efficient method of sorting these properly (so the number component sorts like a number and not like a string)? I can request users pad their entries (yes, other people will be entering this data), but that's both a little bit ugly and not very user friendly.

I'm trying to do Array.sortOn on an array of custom-class objects. It's not working, though nothing in the documentation suggests that this is a problem. Below is the code. I'm confident the MetricRecord constructor is working fine because everything else works, and the traces below are correct, except they don't sort.

I've got different functions in actionscript 3, one function generates random numbers each time there's a button click. But with another button I want to call the random number which is generated at that moment. I have to call the random number from another function then, but these are two different functions so it just considers it as an undefined property.

But I can't call randomnummer1 because it's inside another function. So I get the property undefined error.
I'm currently trying to convert a string that I get from a text box to an integer. Seems simple enough, but the string's got a pile of formatting on it.

Reason I used this is because I knew that the formatting would stay the same so I can slice off the same amount each time.
What I'm wondering is, is there a more elegant method of getting the entry that I want out of that mess of formatting? If not, then is there a way I can minimize the formatting?

I've got a .txt file hosted on a freewebs, which my actionscript gets some variables for (for easy updating of statistics).
I want to do be able to do math in actionscript with these numbers I'm calling up from the .txt file, but the problem is that when I call up the variables, they are recognized as a string, instead of integers.
How would I convert the string to an integer in actionscript, or write the number in the .txt so that it's recognized as an integer.

I am using CS3 set to AS3. On frame one I have 120 buttons ( yes, one hundred twenty buttons), unfortunately I have tried to reduce this but to no avail. Anyway, I know I can put these into an array to take away some of the coding. but my question is can I also use a integer?
My button are named Btn1 - Btn120. I would want to use the array and integer for simple things such as event listeners for roll over, click, roll out, and a couple of basic if statements. All of the buttons are movie clips.For some other more detailed functions I know I could still call the button name ( at least I think I should still be able to), but wanted to make sure.
I've recently come across what I think is a legitimate bug in the behaviour of gotoAndPlay in AS3 (using flash CS3), and I'm astounded I hadn't found it sooner. Please don't write this "bug" off as an artefact of beginner code yet, I've been using flash for a good many years.In previous versions of actionscript, if you tell a movieclip to gotoAndPlay a certain frame, it will display the given frame next step and continue to play normally from there. Simple.Imagine a movieclip has 20 frames, and before frame 5 is displayed you tell it to gotoAndPlay(10) a simple trace of currentframe on enterframe will return this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14...But if you do the same test in AS3, it pauses for one step after sending the playhead to the designated frame. So the same test as before will return this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14... it sits on frame 10 for an extra step.
See attached files for examples, the frame rate is only 4fps so the extra frame pause is much more noticeable. It also has the same 1-frame-pause if you gotoAndStop on a frame that contains a movieclip (test2). And changing back to AS2 before exporting rids the problem.I guess some people may say 'its only one frame, it shouldn't matter', but one frame can make a massive difference when dealing with the look of animations. And I could just write my own enterframe listener to advance by a frame every step. But the point is I don't think that flash shouldn't behave like this, regardless of what workarounds are available.
I want to have a dynamic integer reference.

I am trying to convert a string having numbers to an integer.
