ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Random Grayscale Easing?
Mar 14, 2007
I'm dying here. I'm making an interactive image that's grayscale. Whenever the _parent MC is clicked, the different elements of the image randomly shift in grayscale.I have patchworked a thing together that works, but the code is so clunky that it basically kills the machine. I've tried several different color methods with varying success (can't even get colorTransform to work). how to build a function or something else that can basically shift the color to a randomly generated "target" value over n number of frames?
Code snippet:
Code:
imageHolder.onRelease = function() {
grass_color = new Color(imageHolder.grass);
oldColor = grass_color.getTransform();
//gets previous color value
[code]....
One of my big issues has been trying to create a function that can be applied to several different objects, or generate the objects for each mc. There are 5 color objects that color shift. This has been driving me nuts for days.

skyline movie clip to move randomly along it's x axis whenever a mouse event happens.I can get it to ease in on a mouse event.The only code I've come across that seems to point me in the right direction is easingvar skyline:Tween=new Tween(skyline_mc,"x", Regular.easeInOut, 100,107,3,true);How do I get it to easeinout again to a random position on the x axis?.

Virtually the only dynamic ease-tweening you ever see in Actionscript is the ubiquitous "exponential ease-out." You know, the Zeno's paradox, go halfway every time, Barney's menu method:
distance = finalX - _x;
_x += distance / 2;
It's wonderfully simple and easy to code, but it lacks flexibility. You can choose your destination, but you can't specify, "I want to get there in 40 frames." Also, easing *in* with the same method is not so easy. There are many mathematical approaches to calculating an eased tween. I've derived some easing equations using three different curves: quadratic, sinusoidal, and exponential (as well as a trivial linear equation). Each of the three curves has its own particular "style" of easing; it's quite fun to compare their aesthetics.
All of the equations allow you to specify the beginning value, the change in the value, the duration of the tween, and the current time. Note that the equations will work for both frame-based and time-based animation. That is, duration and current time can be either frames or seconds/milliseconds.Here are the quadratic easing equations. I'll post the other two sets soon.
Code:
// simple linear tweening - no acceleration
// t: current time, b: beginning value, c: change in value, d: duration
Math.linearTween = function (t, b, c, d) {
[code]....
Right now, the equations are all set at "maximum easing", analogous to an easing setting of 100% in Flash's Frame panel. It is fairly simple to adapt the equations so you can specify an easing percentage. Personally, I almost always use 100% manual easing within Flash.

im trying to create this custom menu a bit more efficiently. As written, it operates fine glitch free. However, id like to incorporate some easing into the movement of each movie clip.

how to incorporate tween classes and then easing?

I've built a code to cyclically move a scene on the bottom of my stage; I've done this to make a slowing-and-stop-easing effect at anytime the command will arrive. The entire scene mc is _x long something like 6000 px. The whole code goes in this way:
1) importing on the stage (with attachMovie) a mc with this code inside:
onClipEvent(enterFrame) {
_parent._parent.fondo_mc._x -= countermovement;
if (_parent._parent.fondo_mc._x <= -5800) {[code].....
The code goes right, but I need to improve it.Now there is just a variable, I tought to use two vars to implement the whole code in a setInterval, but maybe it's unuseful, and actually I can't use it in the right way.
Second issue: actually when slowAndStop function is called the scene slow too fast, if I take it to 15 it slow better but the scene is running too fast...
The best would be that the scene slow down and stop following: A) a temporal variable (and I can try to implement it with setInterval, that for istance is a cycle)
B) an indipendent moving variable, so that on one side I set the speed, on the other side I set the slow-and-stop in a matter of time with countermovement.I also tried to use a second variable:
var counter:Number = 15;
// set the _x increment
var countermovement:Number = counter/2;
but the scene slow and goes backward a bit

1. Is there a function in AS3 player 9 or 10 to greyscale a Loader.load()ed jpg image? I don't even think it is feasible to manually calculate the greyscale values for each pixel. If there is no such function like photoshop does, then the other option is to have 2 images - one colored and the other greyscale - to switch between each other on mouseover. Am I right, or what else?
2. Why is it that the barbarabarry dot com images doesn't get downloaded into temporary internet files folder? I am using Loader.load to get the images loaded into flash. As a side effect, I noticed that these images gets downloaded into the temporary internet files folder (Internet Explorer). Not that it's bad, but I am curious how barbarabarry images do not get downloaded. I noticed this while trying to confirm whether the grey scale is dynamic or just 2 different images.

I would like to make a mask that both converts any colors to grayscale and then reduces their alpha value. The intended purpose is for the masked region to be in grayscale and lighter so that the unmasked region is more prominent. Most tutorials I've seen for alpha value masks are far too complicated and use the Flash GUI. How do you accomplish the same thing in ActionScript?
If the following is my image:
Then a traditional mask over some selection would produce the following:Instead, those parts that are masked out completely, I would like for those to be converted to grayscale:And their alpha value decreased, so they're lightened:

in the filters panel, there is an "adjust color" option.. and inside of it, there is an option there for "saturation".. setting it to the lowest (-100) will turn the movieclip / whatever object you're applying the filter to, to grayscale..i was wondering, how would i go about this using code?
for example, if there was a movieclip on stage called "thePic" and i wanted to decrease its saturation slowly every enterframe until it finally becomes grayscale, how would i go about it?i know how to manipulate the other filters like GlowFilter and BlurFilter through code, but it seems like there is no "AdjustColorFilter".. there is a ColorMatrixFilter, but i dont event understand how it works..

I'm familiar with how to ease something in using motion math. Easing out would not be that bad either. But how would I script something easing in half way, then easing out the second half? It would start slow, gradually move faster, then slow to a stop at the end. - almost like a sine wave I guess?

I've written a function that makes all white pixels in an image transparent. This works OK, but the resulting image looks jagged because it only replaces pixels that are solid white. What I'd really like to do is set the alpha value for each pixel proportional to the amount of white in that pixel, then set the RGB value to #000000. I think this would produce a very smooth semi-transparent image. However, I'm not very good at bitwise operations. Can any of you lend a hand?
As an added bonus I'd like to overlay the resulting bitmap on top of another image. I know this is possible via other means, but it would be nice to do it all in one function for performance reasons and simplicity.

I have 4 objects in the library. I use a switch case statement to randomly generate them to the stage;[code]When the user clicks "taskMC", I want to assign behaviors according to which object. If I trace "taskMC" I get the name (object A_Graphic, object B_Graphic etc.)but I can't assign actions to them that way. How do I get object A_Graphic to do one thing, object B_Graphic another thing...?

I have a grid of animated dynamic text boxes that are being pushed in from an array. This works great. I was wondering if it possible to have those randomly bolded? If that is not possible, than could their alpha's be random but not any lower than 50%. I know AS3 does 0-1 but how would you force it to not be lower than a certain number?
PHP Code:

Does anybody know an easy way to duplicate a display object (placed with addChild() to stage, containing a square which moves and scales and rotates randomly around), and make the duplicate mirror vertically 'everything'. As if it's a water reflection?
I'm only simplifying my case, in reality the display object has complex and multiple moving objects with filters.

I've got two files A and B. A generates a random number in a dynamic text box and loads an image as the background:
[Code]...
I'm trying to avoid useing a button to send the number from A to B, and instead am trying to use an event listener that sends the number when A loads background.jpg; but the number never gets sent (I start with B open already, and then open A). I've gotten this to work with an onRelease event for a button , so i know the LocalConnection coding works, but as I said I want to avoid using a button to send the number. I'm sure it's right in front of me but i've got no clue why it isn't working, so I defer to wiser minds.

I have been making a memory game, where words are shown to the user. Once they have memorised the words they go to the next screen where the words that they have memorised are shown. They then have to drag each word into a "correct" place and a "wrong" place. I now want to edit it so that I can use two arrays one for correct words and one for wrong words. I want to generate random words from each of these arrays. I have sort of worked out how this is possible to do but using dynamic text, but am I correct in thinking that the whole dragging the words thing is not possible with dynamic text. (I may be wrong though, I am quite new to flash).

When a user enters the website, it will pull text from some location (possibly an XML file) and load it into a text field. The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.
I'm thinking of using XML to store the 25 different text sentences, but am open to other ideas.
