ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamically Creating A Scrolling Text Box?

how to dynamically create a text box. Is it possible to dynamically create this box with scrolling capabilities? Do I need to dynamically attach a scrollbar component?
I followed the tutorial for Scrolling Dynamically Loaded Text & its works well. The problem I am experiencing I have a limited about of space in my movie for the text box. The text file has all the data that I need to display but for some reason I only see a portion of the information & I can't seem to figure out my mistake.
I'm fairly new to action script so this might be me being simple but: I followed the Scrolling Dynamically Loaded Text tutorial and added it to my flash movie and although it works perfectly in the tests and once published once it loads in the browser all I get is the word undefined at the top of the text box. I've searched all over for a solution but as I said my understanding of action script is fairly limited.
I have a text box which dynamically loads the information from a .txt file. I want to scroll the text, with buttons that I have made(not the component scroll bar that comes with Flash MX), up and down through the text I have. I've tried many different scripts, and none seem to work. Is there a good concise walkthrough for this anywhere?
I'm currently working on a project where I need to create a grid of dynamic text boxes each displaying my specified number. I won't go into big specifics, since I can assign the values to each text box, but for some reason I'm having problems creating the grid dynamically. I've used the same method for attaching Movie Clips in a grid, and it works fine, so I can't figure out for the life of me what the problem is.
I want to add a text area on the click or a button, for example lets say if a person has multiple addresses and they want to add more address. When the user clicks 'add address' a new text area should appear.I have looked everywhere for the solution but no luck

I've created an XML calendar (with code from an example I found online) and now I want to add some additional functionality to it. Here's what it currently looks like:When the user clicks on a day with events, they are listed to the right of the calendar. I want the user to be able to click on an event in the list and have that load the details, including an image and colored category bar into the Details pane on the right. The reference to the image and category w/ corresponding color bar will be defined in the XML file along witht the details.Here is the current code for displaying the events:

I've come across a couple threads that pertain t my question but after reading them, trying different approaches, and searching the internet I am still confused. How do I create visual elements, such as a text field, dynamically from Actionscript in a class file?
Basically I created a class file that loads an external XML file and now I want to create dynamic text fields for the elements in the XML file. I did some debugging and I know the XML is loaded correctly. I can also get it to create dynamic text fields when I place the code inside of the fla. The problem is when the code is in the class file. I've read that you need to pass the display object to the class but I am still unclear on how to do it.
My fla has the following code on the first frame:

Is there any way to alter the fonts and font sizes WITHIN the bulk of text?ie. If I wanted to have a header in one font, and the rest of the text in another.Rif I wanted to add a url hyperlink.I did a site for a friend, and used the dynamically loaded textboxes so he could update it himself by just changing the .txt file.At the moment all the scrolling textboxes are in one font. I would love to be able to change this, and even more, would love for my friend himself to be able to mix different fonts and update it himself
I'm trying to add a scrolling marquee to a web site that can be updated by uploading a text file. I'm piecing together some old code and I'm having an issue with resizing the dynamic text (as you will see in my fla). I have found that I can fiddle around with the physical size of the text box and make my example work, but when I upload text files of varying length, that option just won't work.
We've seen it on many websites before, where there is a row of buttons on the page and when you position the mouse on that row, the buttons either scroll up or down depending on the position of the mouse. There are tuts available for AS1 and AS2, but i have yet to see an AS3 tut. (I may have overlooked it.)
The end product should look like: Scrolling thumbnails along the bottom (or side) of the page, scrolls controlled by users mouse.If the user clicks on a thumbnail a larger version of the image loads above or to the side.So far:I have the scrolling images doing as I want! The thumbnails are all buttons.
The problem:I can't get the larger image to load. I have tried creating a movie clip with the larger image in and attaching an Attach Movie script to the button - but it doesn't work.Using Flash MX 2004 and I am not fluent in Action Script - so far I use tutorials and try to alter script to fit what I am after.
I created the scrolling navigation, akin toby changing a script that I had. However, I'm stuck now, as all the buttons can move to the left, but not to the right. If it does not make sense, check out the attached swf and fla.I'm not too good with if else statement and x y property.
I've found several good tutorials in AS2.0 on creating a scrolling thumbnail menu bar for adding to a photo gallery, but nothing in AS3.0. Anyone have a tutorial or code they'd like to share?
I'm attempting to create a thing where my thumbnails will scroll across the bottom of the page, like when you put the mouse on the right it scrolls right and visa versa. I found a great tuturial only to realize halfway in that it was done with Flash 8, therefore apparently quite a few things have changed. And this is my first stab at FlashThe first place i noticed is when my motion tween didn't work, so I instead created a 'Classic Tween' finding it had the same affect as 'Motion Tween' in Flash 8, however as I progressed in the tut, I don't think the results were the same.
My images scroll but after creating a _xmouse<40){........prevFrame, there only continue to scroll, the prevFrame command doesn't work!So to my question...does anyone know of a good tut for this type of thing for CS5? OR, is anyone really familiar with both Flash 8 and CS5 and e differences for what I'm attempting to create?
I have literally just implemented some code in a class to make images scroll. The code is here:

However the scrolling does not stop and eventually goes back on itself and does a loop. Without creating any mc's is there anyway to stop this from happening and create a boundary?
I've made xml gallery which has simple slideshow in starting and after clicking on that its takes to the xml loaded scrolling mc which is not scrolling properly like the tuts here in Kirupa. I've following code for that

As you may have seen from my previous posts, I am creating a side-scrolling action game in Flash/Actionscript 3.0. Right now I am trying to get enemy objects to face the player's direction. Here is what I mean (dartD1 is an instance of the enemy character object. If its scaleX is 1, it's facing right; if its scaleX is -1, it's facing left):
How would you guys go about creating an horizontally scrolling panel of thumbnail images? I want a panel that scrolls for ever in both directions and it also needs to be controlled via two arrow buttons not a mouse over type scroller. I would also like to animate with Tweens in action script to get a nice smooth scroll.I know some as3 but I can't work out how to make the scroller repeatedly scroll in both directions.
On my stage i have a scroll pane (instance name scrollPane).I have a container which i populate with dynamically created clips (instance name faveContainer). The clips are in this case, just thumbnails pulled from a folder.I want to push that container into the scroll pane once its built up.Heres where i am currently....Im guessing that scrollPane isnt picking up the faveContainer off the stage, but out of the library, but while that might be the case, i don't know what to do about it.I saw kirupa example, and attempted to copy its behaviour, but, well, cant!

I'm having trouble getting my scrollbar to work with dynamically loaded movies inside the movie the scrollbar is attached to. Make sure to include the www as my flash file will only load the data with it (another problem). I have a for loop that pulls data from my database, populates a topMovie(contentMain) with 20 subMovies inside it. My scrollbar is attached to topMovie. Once the data is loaded and the topMovie is populated, the scrollFace(not ScrollTrack) dissapears and the dynamic movie is not scrollable. As a test, I populated the topMovie with graphic boxes and no dynamic movies and it scrolls just fine.

Any examples on creating the horizontal scrolling menu with dynamically attached clips? the style where if the user mouses over the right hand side of the menu it slides left, etc? There's lots of tutes out there for simple scrolling but not much that take a dynamically sized clip into consideration!
I've created a game engine using bitmaps and box2D, the floors for the game engine is made out of a number of lines which then has a bitmap fill applied to it, then it adds a little bit of grass on top of these floors....Here's a quick video to show you what I'm talking about:http:[url].....
This all works fine on my main computer, but when I move over to my netbook, I struggle to get 10fps... Because of this I am now looking for as many ways as possible to improve the efficiency of my code. So far what I've done that appears to of had some positive effect is:
- Use bitmapCaching on layers where it's appropriate to do so.
- Use scrollRect to scroll on only the necessary part of each of the layers.
However I'm still having big problems when it comes to scrolling the terrain on my netbook - are there any ideas that anyone might have which might be able to speed up the game slightly?
I am in the process of creating a vertical scrolling space shooter game for deployment on mobile platforms using AIR.I've used some excellent tutorials online, video tutorials on Lynda and several books, including Game Programming University.Something they all seem to gloss over are the various screens that will be used.
For instance, my game right now will use a splash screen, a main menu screen, a credits screen,a settings screen, a difficulties screen, an instruction screen, an end game screen and save/load screen...and a play game screen, where the actual game will be played.I've created the screens as seperate frames in the main timeline with stop commands in between and code on each page (I know... bad!... but easy).So basically,they can navigate through the menus using buttons (mouseclicks, which will work with touchs as well) and when they are How do I pass data between them? I have a dynamic text filed scrolling with a drag button on a track or the mousewheel. What I am trying to do now is have the scroll button and track not visible if the content is smaller than the text field.
