ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Buttons Dynamically From XML File Text?

I've created an XML calendar (with code from an example I found online) and now I want to add some additional functionality to it. Here's what it currently looks like:When the user clicks on a day with events, they are listed to the right of the calendar. I want the user to be able to click on an event in the list and have that load the details, including an image and colored category bar into the Details pane on the right. The reference to the image and category w/ corresponding color bar will be defined in the XML file along witht the details.Here is the current code for displaying the events:

I made a basic text editor that lets users insert predefined strings into the document with button clicks. What I need to do now is let the user define their own buttons and string values. For example I have a button that inserts "Hello" into the text. The user may want to create a button that adds "Goodbye".To accomplish this I figured I would create a .txt file called buttons.txt or something. i would readutfbytee, loop through it to create the buttons. problem is I know what I want to do but not sure where to start

I want to make a site for my personal gallery and i'm asking you if there is another method to make my gallery, other that the one when the user click Back and Next to navigate through thhe images in the order that i chose. I want to create some buttons dynamically (so i will be able to add images to the gallery without replacing the SWF) and assign each of these buttons an on(release) or on(press) event handler that will show the image for that button

I'm using Flash CS3, Actionscript 2.0 and I'm trying to create buttons dynamically.I tried to follow the code in the link below. The code is correct for the most part but the only problem I have is that only the last button appears. For example, if I try to create 10 buttons, only the 10th button is created.

So I have this loop generating buttons based upon how many entries there are in my XML:

Now I'm just wondering what the best way of assigning control to the buttons is (i.e. making them do something,). I'm wanting each created button to load a different image (defined in the xml) if that's of any use.
Do I need to add event listeners dynamically or something?

i'm developing a website for my client. I've been trolling through the forum and I've seen similar instances however I can't seem to get my head around how to make scripting work;What I'm trying to make is similar to an interface where users can input data into a list (myArray) should they need to remove information they can click the corresponding button to remove it, the current code is repositioning a button that's already on the field as opposed to creating a duplicate from the library

Now I've dynamically created some buttons using XML. They're spread around the stage and I've modified a tooltip script to give each button a tooltip on Mouse_Over. But to se the logic and make it work using AS3 is hard (for me). I want a function that accept to parameters: Tooltip text and Object to tooltip. In my code I get this error msg when initiating the function on dynamically created buttons: 1118: Implicit coercion of a value with static type flash.display:Sprite to a possibly unrelated type flash.display:MovieClip. I beleive there are more than one thing here needing a fix.

My interest is in creating a row buttons that are dynamically generated and placed as determined by xml content (number of buttons that is). The buttons are multiple instances of the same clip (attached) that contain textfields which display numbers (ie. 01, 02, ...20). The number of buttons generated shall be capped to a max of 20. I am creating a SWF file using a MXML file. The MXML file define several MX:Button and uses an external stylesheet to style them. There is a problem I am facing at the moment, I am aiming to style the buttons in a way that is similar to the way I can style HTML button elements. However, I could not achieve such look and feel. For example, I could not find a way to define the color and thickness of the borders for each side of the button (top, bottom, left, right), the background color, the margins, the padding, the width, and the height of the button. Also, selector such as hover, active, focus are not available. I was only able to change the size and the font color of the button successfully.

I'm currently working on a project where I need to create a grid of dynamic text boxes each displaying my specified number. I won't go into big specifics, since I can assign the values to each text box, but for some reason I'm having problems creating the grid dynamically. I've used the same method for attaching Movie Clips in a grid, and it works fine, so I can't figure out for the life of me what the problem is.

I have an app that lets you upload a photo and mask part of it. I want now to press a button that takes a screengrab of the flash player and saves it to the server.I'm aware this will require scripting to talk to the server but for the flash part of taking a I've even considered using fscommand to somehow access the printscreen function but don't think this will work after checking the documentation.

I want to add a text area on the click or a button, for example lets say if a person has multiple addresses and they want to add more address. When the user clicks 'add address' a new text area should appear.I have looked everywhere for the solution but no luck

i am creating a file that loads images dynamically and scrolls through them. this is all being read from an xml file. i am able to do everything but get the buttons to work.whenever i click on a button, it gives me the value of the last button, not the current button. for example, if four buttons load, if i click on any button, it always traces the value of 4.

I've come across a couple threads that pertain t my question but after reading them, trying different approaches, and searching the internet I am still confused. How do I create visual elements, such as a text field, dynamically from Actionscript in a class file?
Basically I created a class file that loads an external XML file and now I want to create dynamic text fields for the elements in the XML file. I did some debugging and I know the XML is loaded correctly. I can also get it to create dynamic text fields when I place the code inside of the fla. The problem is when the code is in the class file. I've read that you need to pass the display object to the class but I am still unclear on how to do it.
My fla has the following code on the first frame:

I'm creating a quiz application using Flash CS3, but it's been such a long time since I've used ActionScript and I'm a little bit stuck.I've created an input text box in the first frame of my quiz program. A person will enter their name into this text box (which I've called "nameInput") and then click the next button to proceed through the quiz.However, when I get to the results page I cannot figure out how to get the input name to be displayed automatically in the dynamic text box (which is called "nameOutput") when the user enters the frame.

Im having some trouble creating buttons from an xml file ive loaded in.. What i need it to do is create a button (movieclip with a onRollOver funciton) for every item that is in the XML file, ive tried this in the For loop but i cant get it to work..
Also is it possible to duplicate a text field and populate this each time with a field from the xml file as im having some difficulties targeting the name of the duplicate field? ive included my code below...

My problem is that I have made the tutorial named "Creating Animated Buttons" but when I set the text (b1.buttText.buttonText.text = "portfolio";) de sample text is disappeared and the new one doesn't come. I have traced the variable b1.buttText.buttonText.text and it is the "portfolio".

I've got a project that loads video clips and text via XML. I'm trying to add buttons but I am not sure how to code them. The problem is, I'm creating 4 transparent buttons over four dynamic text fields. In the XML doc I have 11 different sections or groups of content. Those text fields with the transparent buttons change when each video finishes and a new section is loaded.
What I want to do is get the changing value of any of those 4 buttons that I click while one of the sections is playing and load that new section. At first I thought I'd just check to see what the current section is that's playing and then if I click on the button that represents the next section I would increase the value+1. If I click on the button that's supposed to represent the third section from the current one then I would code the button, current section+3 and so on.
That would work fine but If I'm on section 9 in the XML and there's only 11 sections, I can't add "current section+3" because that would go to section 12 and there isn't a section 12. I would want it to go and load section 0.

This question relates to the gallery that I'm working on; basically, I am now trying to add text comments which change according to which button you press to the images. I know how to make this work by applying actionscript to each individual button, but I would like to put all of the actionscript on one layer, meaning that I would have to use the 'button.onRelease = function ()' operation instead of the 'on (release) { function" operation.The code is a variation of Kirupa's code for the tutorial on loading information from an XML, and the xml is his completely. the variable nextX places a new button every given number of pixels, in this case 140px. What I'll like to do is to make this value dynamic so that a new button is placed taking into account the width of the preceding button, plus a certain number of pixels.
