ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating Buttons With Dynamic Functions?

May 6, 2011

I've been trolling through the forum and I've seen similar instances however I can't seem to get my head around how to make scripting work;What I'm trying to make is similar to an interface where users can input data into a list (myArray) should they need to remove information they can click the corresponding button to remove it, the current code is repositioning a button that's already on the field as opposed to creating a duplicate from the library

here's the full code:
stop();
//hidden hyperlink to AR

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML And Dynamically Creating Buttons

Aug 15, 2009

So I have this loop generating buttons based upon how many entries there are in my XML:

Code:
for (j=0; j < base.image.length(); j++) {
trace(j);
var newButton:imgButton = new imgButton();

[Code]....

Now I'm just wondering what the best way of assigning control to the buttons is (i.e. making them do something,). I'm wanting each created button to load a different image (defined in the xml) if that's of any use.

Do I need to add event listeners dynamically or something?

i'm developing a website for my client. Here is the test version [URL] will look like this:[URL]There will be a menu created dynamically from a XML file, after clicking a menu button a MovieClip with a photo and category description will show up.After clicking the button "View more" the MovieClip with description will be removed and MovieClips with category products will show up through a for-loop on XML products nodes from this category.

The XML will look like this:

Code: Select all

Product description...

I can create the navigation menu, and maybe i will manage to create first MovieClip with the category photo and description but i don't have how to create those next MovieClips with products desciption after clicking the button "View more".

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating The Dynamic Buttons?

Aug 24, 2007

im trying to dynamically create buttons...here's an example scenario -> off stage is a movie clip called "originalButton_mc"I want to use a loop to duplicate this movie clip 25 times, and each one should be able to perform a unique onRelease function ex.

Code:
for (i = 0; i<25; i++) {
var newButton_mc = originalButton_mc.duplicateMovieClip("button"+i, i+1);
newButton_mc._y = i*22;
newButton_mc._x = 10;

[code]....

the problem with the above code is that when I click my new buttons it always traces 25...because, clearly - my code is wrong, and the onRelease is getting rewritten for each button - hence its left with the last i ... 25.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML - Creating 4 Transparent Buttons Over Four Dynamic Text Fields

Sep 28, 2010

I've got a project that loads video clips and text via XML. I'm trying to add buttons but I am not sure how to code them. The problem is, I'm creating 4 transparent buttons over four dynamic text fields. In the XML doc I have 11 different sections or groups of content. Those text fields with the transparent buttons change when each video finishes and a new section is loaded.

What I want to do is get the changing value of any of those 4 buttons that I click while one of the sections is playing and load that new section. At first I thought I'd just check to see what the current section is that's playing and then if I click on the button that represents the next section I would increase the value+1. If I click on the button that's supposed to represent the third section from the current one then I would code the button, current section+3 and so on.

That would work fine but If I'm on section 9 in the XML and there's only 11 sections, I can't add "current section+3" because that would go to section 12 and there isn't a section 12. I would want it to go and load section 0.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Creating A Movieclip That Functions Like A Button

Aug 16, 2010

This has served me well, but I've been designing a new sight and wanted to get more into Action Script to control functions to help improve both my programming and keep my file size down.

So I decided to create an instance of a block (rectangle shape as another movieclip) and have multiple layers. One which controls the actions of two other blocks. The upper most block would not be visable until I ran the cursor over it (increase its Alpha property from 0 to 100 one step at a time in a loop). This would reverse when the cursor ran off (reduce Alpha property from 100 [or less] back to 0 in a loop).

I've read and re-read every flash book I own on the subject and cannot understand why I can't control another instance of a different movieclip.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Functions At Runtime Without So Many Ifs/elses?

Nov 3, 2005

I am writing some code that needs to be very efficient, yet flexible. This is in a class and when the class gets initialized a function is setup. I want this function to run straight through without doing any time-consuming things such as calling other functions or routines, or doing any if/else logic/branching. Now I know that you can setup a function at anytime during runtime such as:

Code:
var myFunction:Function = function() {trace('HELLO!')}

But what I am trying to do is to try and append code to a function based on logic, yet I don't want the function to be deciding this logic when it is running as it will only need deciding when the function is created.... imagine if it were a string it would be something like myFunction+="do somethingelse;" which would be the same as having initially setup myFunction as such:

Code:
var myFunction = function() {do something; do somethingelse;}

With this I seem to be having no luck Here's an example where I setup the most compact/efficient function at runtime depending on what I want the function to do. Now this was fairly simple because when we create the function there are only a few possible variations, but I need someway of doing a function+= as my real code has quite a few variations and it would be a nightmare have a zillion if/else branches. REMEMBER I do not want any logic/decisions in the function itself as it to be the most efficient the function must be as compact as possible and run straight-through.

Code:
var dynamicFunction:Function;
//
// Setup the dynamic function & call it
// In this example outputs "Hello Jim" & "Goodbye Jim"
dynamicFunction = CrapSetupRoutine(true, true, "Jim");

[code]....

P.S. I knew the += would never work as this is a function and not a string. But at least if you think of the function as a string you'll get what I'm trying to do....
