ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Dynamic Buttons Without Library Instances?
Mar 31, 2005
why this sort of, but doesn't work?I'm just creating a group of buttons using imported pictures without having anything in the library.Here's the code I'm using:
[AS]clipArray = [];
posArray = [];
for (var k = 0; k<3; k++) {
hmm how do I describe what I'm trying to do.. well here it is: In my flash library I have a series of movieclip with names like clip00, clip01, clip02 they are set to export for actionscript as the same name.
Now in my as file I'm importing a xml file that has the names of the clips which to place on the stage. Now if it were just a regular case I would do
[Code]...
I hope I am somewhat clear, please let me know if I can explain further. My project is really complex and I tried simplify it here. Please help or suggest alternative method.
I create X instances of a class (called SM) depending on a varibale I have (called here howmany), but later on as I want to check their states with a while, I need to have diferent instances names (sm1,sm2,sm3...).[code]
I'd like to create a Hangman game, only instead of having the player enter a letter, I'd like to have 26 clickable buttons on the screen. Now, I could make 26 symbols, but that seems ridiculous when I could create a letter_button.as class and just create 26 instances of letter_button, where I can just do something like letter_button.letter_id to get the value. That part's easy. The hard part is, uh. Well. 1- How do I create a button that will accept dynamic text? How do I add these buttons to the stage? Will parent.addChild(new letter_button(letter)) work? Or do I need something else?
Here's how far I've gotten in my solution, tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree. To begin, I created a button called "Letter_Button". It has a text field on it called "letter_text". It's a MovieClip and it links to Letter_Button.as
Creating a dynamic scroll panel using two objects from my library and accessing images from a folder using some basic XML. The ScrollPanel loads fine, the 6 instances of the empty movieclip holders load. The function that traces the instance of the movieClip names is working. My trouble is accessing the instances of the movies to load the loaders in order to view the jpgs called from the folder. I receive an "access of undefined property" message if I type thumbLoad0.addChild(pic1ldr); etc, which you will see at the very bottom.
im trying to dynamically create buttons...here's an example scenario -> off stage is a movie clip called "originalButton_mc"I want to use a loop to duplicate this movie clip 25 times, and each one should be able to perform a unique onRelease function ex.
Code: for (i = 0; i<25; i++) { var newButton_mc = originalButton_mc.duplicateMovieClip("button"+i, i+1); newButton_mc._y = i*22; newButton_mc._x = 10;
[code]....
the problem with the above code is that when I click my new buttons it always traces 25...because, clearly - my code is wrong, and the onRelease is getting rewritten for each button - hence its left with the last i ... 25.
I need to create 5 buttons which looks the same, and each one of them has a picture on it.
I created a button symbol, named it and created linkage to AS. I also created a MovieClip that holds the picture I want to put on top of the button and created a linkage.
Then in the code I create two instances and display them
I've been trolling through the forum and I've seen similar instances however I can't seem to get my head around how to make scripting work;What I'm trying to make is similar to an interface where users can input data into a list (myArray) should they need to remove information they can click the corresponding button to remove it, the current code is repositioning a button that's already on the field as opposed to creating a duplicate from the library
here's the full code: stop(); //hidden hyperlink to AR
Im having some trouble creating buttons from an xml file ive loaded in.. What i need it to do is create a button (movieclip with a onRollOver funciton) for every item that is in the XML file, ive tried this in the For loop but i cant get it to work..
Also is it possible to duplicate a text field and populate this each time with a field from the xml file as im having some difficulties targeting the name of the duplicate field? ive included my code below...
var arrImages:Array = new Array(); var info:Array = new Array(); var link:Array = new Array();
I'm looking for an AS3/XML parsing pro to help me with an issue I'm having. The following xml file loads 7 icons ("url") into an array. What I want to do is create an activestate using child ("activestate") that replaces the "url" icon when clicked. I have no idea what the best way to do this would be. I've tried everything. The reason for this application is if i decide to change up the content down the line I won't have to recode anything. Just update the icons.
xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <images> <image>
I thought I had a good hold on how to create buttons from a class, but my invis class will not return the button that is created to my fla. I have been able to access functions of invis class from my fla, even instantiate the object, but none of the button states carry over to the fla. If you can help I'd appreciate it. I placed the code below.
I've got a project that loads video clips and text via XML. I'm trying to add buttons but I am not sure how to code them. The problem is, I'm creating 4 transparent buttons over four dynamic text fields. In the XML doc I have 11 different sections or groups of content. Those text fields with the transparent buttons change when each video finishes and a new section is loaded.
What I want to do is get the changing value of any of those 4 buttons that I click while one of the sections is playing and load that new section. At first I thought I'd just check to see what the current section is that's playing and then if I click on the button that represents the next section I would increase the value+1. If I click on the button that's supposed to represent the third section from the current one then I would code the button, current section+3 and so on.
That would work fine but If I'm on section 9 in the XML and there's only 11 sections, I can't add "current section+3" because that would go to section 12 and there isn't a section 12. I would want it to go and load section 0.
I've created a movie clip and placed it in the library. I've given it a class name via the properties panel in the library. Every time I drag it to stage I want to make sure its alpha is set to 0. If I drag 300 of those clips to stage, is there a way to reference the class name I gave it in order to automatically set the alpha value as soon as they're dragged into the stage?
I would like to load movie clips from the library to the stage.How can I load them with some code on them? I mean load them already with onClipEvents on them, as if I added them myself to the stage..
1. I've got a Main Document class, that loads external swf each with its own document class (they are pages and pieces of the site).
2. The Main class makes use of some movieclip simply instantiated from the GUI library. It all goes fine.
3. The external swf have references to the Main class, and here start problems: when I compile them, I get an error for every library mclip used by Main. See the attachment. A simple trace(Main) is enough to start getting all that errors.
A partial solution is to uncheck Strict Mode in publish settings
Basically, I have made a new FLA file, and in it's library I have created two symbols. Both symbols have their own class .as file.The first symbol is a movie called GridBox, and it's class has a package that uses lines to draw a shape, namely, a diagonal box tile.The second symbol is a movie called MainGrid, and it has a class that loads the movie GridBox from the library, in to its self.All my code works fine, the thing is, I would like to load more than one instance of the same movie clip, at a series of different locations, and im lost.Here is the code:
Actionscript Code: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; public class MainGrid extends MovieClip private var myMovieClip:MovieClip;
I have several instances of a movieclip which I placed on stage dynamically out of the library. Inside these movieclips I have a textfield. Is there a way that I can change the text of each instance independently?
Code: var backing1:mcBacking = new mcBacking ; backing1.x = 94;
Code: var parcher0:_parcher0 = new _parcher0(); _parcher0 is a Symbol in the Library with the Class definition _parcher0
I want to addChild this Symbol to an MC on the stage like this:
Code: this.pccard0.sprite_.addChild(parcher0)
All good! Except I want to do the same thing, the same way, with this.pccard1.sprite_, and several more. When I do so, parcher0 only shows up on the final, most recently assigned addChild().
Is it forbidden to add a Symbol in this way in more than one place, and if so how do I get around it without creating a raft of arbitrary duplicates?
I am creating multiple bitmaps within a loop, and placing them inside their own MovieClip. I then have another MovieClip in the Library which I am calling and putting inside the MovieClip generated for the bitmap. Alas I cannot get multiple instances to work of the MovieClip from the Library. I think it must be my syntax in the following code..
Code: for(i=0;i<10;i++){ this['bmp'+i] = new BitmapData(etc,etc) this['box'+i] = new Bitmap( this['bmp'+i] );
Been struggling with the basics of creating instances at runtime. I needed to implement an XML video player and even though the client has supplied a component that they liked and it works fine, i cant turn it off as im not sure how the thing works. Basically the timeline hits a keyframe and stops. It runs the code to make the player popup but once the user has exited, the player stays on.If the function creates an instance for flv playback... how do i tell it to stop?
function below function makePlayer ():void { my_player = new FLVPlayback();[code].........
I'm having trouble creating instances of an object, I want a random number to be generated and then based on the number which was choosen create an instance of an object in one of four positions.The problem I'm having is, my instances are generated fine but there is one that keeps jumping to x 0 and y 0.[code]
I'm trying to create a vertical column of images in a mc that can be clicked. I've added listeners to reposition them once they load, but right now they are overwriting each other. I'm not sure how to rename the object and listener vars for each iteration. [code]...
I'm having trouble creating multiple instances of one movieclip. I've got an array set up that loads photos into flash and places them in a grid (sort of). I want those photos to have outlines around them. So, i created an outline. Now, when i try to place it on all of the photos, it will run through them and only apply itself to the latest photo (one instance overwrites the others). How do i make multiples of the outline?
