ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] Sort() Function For Arrays?

Feb 9, 2004

the sort() function for arrays in Flash MX. How efficient is it? I am currently developing a flash application that will need to read in hundreds of records from a database and sort them.speed is crucial. Which is better? to use the built in sort() function or to create my own shell-sort?

Flex :: Setting The Correct Sort Function At Runtime?

Aug 27, 2009

Using Flex 3.2, I have a object which extends a TitleWindow. In this TitleWindow I have an AdvancedDataGrid.

On creation of this object, I pass it 2 lists, one full of data to display, and the other I pass an array of column definitions. This allows me to, at runtime, create the correct columns and define the correct display attributes for each column (e.g. booleans will show up as checkboxes, and dates are formatted in a specific format (coming in from an XML feed in a variety of STRING formats where nulls are a possibility)

The problem is that the default sort, being based on string, doesn't work 100% of the time and even when the format is one that would be sorted nicely, it fails when nulls are involved.

The above problem would be easily solved using a sortCompareFunction, but the fact is when you set the sortCompareFunction of the column, it seems to require you to hardcode in the column name into the function.

for reference here's the function I'm using to create the columns:

private function setupGrid():void
{
var localcols:Array = new Array();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Sort Function Amount Of Calls Keep Changing

Jul 9, 2010

Basically I have created a custom sort function to use with sort(); inside an Array object and I have traced the amount of times each sort() has called customSortFunction. Apparently it keeps changing the amount of times it is called which has seemed to cause problems for me.I am using this to sort Sprite obects on the stage. I am working with an isometric grid and need to make sure everything is sorted based on y and if two objects are on the same tile (tile hover and avatar etc) then it sorts them as well.

However it seems that when I have some objects in a certain position, the customSortFunction isn't called to sort every single item. The case I am facing just now is it sorts every item, but leaves 2 unsorted. I have traced and debugged and it is definitely not calling customSortFunction enough times.

However, I'd like to create a radio button called 'loadedRadioButton' and when it's click on, I'd like to sort the array on the loaded value first(any items with loaded=true should be at the top, sorted alphabetically), then afterwards, any other items with loaded=false, sorted alphabetically should follow afterwards, how can I do it?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Pass X Arrays To A Function?

Nov 12, 2007

I'm trying to pass an array of X arrays as parameters to a function such as :

var someArray = [0, 1, 2];
var someOtherArray = [A,B,C];
array = [someArray, someOtherArray,...];
myMC.someFunction(array);

The problem is that the function doesn't see where the 1st array stops, it's like passing a big array such as

myMC.someFunction(someArray,SomeOtherArray, ...) becomes
myMC.someFunction(0,1,2,A,B,C) instead of myMC.someFunction([0,1,2],[A,B,C]);

I even tried to make a string such as str += "[array[0]]"+","+"[array[1]] ..but it still passes everything as one big array....how to pass X arrays to a function??

Arrays :: Flash - Data Being Lost Outside Of Loader Function

Nov 4, 2011

Trying to make a grid based question answer game and load variables from a text file using for loops into an array. I wanted to reduce redundant code and use for loops to populate my arrays. The issue I am having is with my arrays being lost/destroyed outside of the loader function.

I understand that if an array is declared inside the function, naturally the array would be destroyed upon exit of the function. However I am declaring the arrays outside of the function so the arrays should remain intact after I exit the function.

BTW - I'm not having an issue with the loading of the data. The data is loading correctly. The array is simply being destroyed after the data has loaded.

//Create the arrays to hold the
//categories, questions, and answers
var categoryArray:Array = new Array();
var quesAnswArray:Array = new Array();

ActionScript 2.0 :: [AS2] Looping Function - Using HitTest(); With Movieclips Within Arrays

Apr 28, 2007

[Code]...

NOTE: The following text is my problem and observations, if you afraid to read it all, my problem is easily guessable within the code go ahead and crack at it without my explanation :-p I'm having some trouble with using hitTest(); with movieclips within arrays. I wanted to build a function that checks the hitTest of Movieclips in arrays because the array is dynamic and it would run more efficient and faster this way.

As you may notice it doesn't check just the movieClip in the array, but a movieclip 2 scopes within it. I feel that this is my problem. I noticed in my debugger that that mc doesn't show up, but i put an onLoad event on it to trace its existence when loaded and it shows up fine. I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

Arrays :: Actionscript 3 - Creating A New Array For Eache Iteration Of The Function Call. AS3

so I have writing a function that returns objects on the stage and puts them into an array. and the function works fine until i call the function on more than one object name, meaning if im in the root class, and I call this function on object1 lets say it will add all the object one's from the stage, but if i call it on object2 it will throw an error, which makes some sense, i guess it means that it is not adding it to a unique array, but im not sure how to do that. would it be a good idea to maybe make a multidimensional array? if that is the case would it be too slow?

Arrays :: Flash - Pushing Or Adding Arrays As Values Into A Multi-dimensional Array?

Jan 21, 2011

I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:

var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array();
slideDataArray[0] = xmlData.SlideShowParameters.SlideShowImagesDirectory;[code]........

I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.

Arrays :: Fastest Way To Merge Multiple Arrays?

Sep 26, 2011

I'm trying to write a function where I can specify any amount of array, and the return value will be an array containing the contents of all of the specified arrays.I've done this, but it seems like a really slow and ugly way of doing it:

var ar1:Array = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9];
var ar2:Array = ['a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h'];
function merge(...multi):Array[code].....

Is there an inbuilt and more efficient / nice way of achieving this? The result does not need to be in the same order as the input - completely unsorted is fine.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Arrays Store References Of Other Arrays?

Dec 27, 2009

I've had a problem for awhile that was really odd. After some intense debugging, I realized the problem lied in setting an array equal to another array.[code] When setting one array equal to another, the values aren't copied over, but a reference to that memory is stored. So no matter which variable you change, they are both references to the same memory and thus both will reflect the changes.With other data types, this doesn't happen.I could fix it by looping through t1 and using push() to add each index from t1 into t2, but that seems a little messy.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Pushing Variables To Arrays Within Arrays?

Jun 25, 2004

correct syntax for pushing variables to arrays within arrays? I have searched many threads but found nothing that exactly answers my query.I have a class (Brigade) which amongst other variables contains an array (BrigadeUnits) This is the third element.. My Brigades are stored in an array called AllBrigades. I now need to fill the BrigadeUnits array with objects of my Units class.The hierarchy I want to create is as follows:

AllBrigades (array of Brigades)
Brigade (object)
BrigadeUnits (array within Brigade object)
Unit (Object to be stored in BrigadeUnits array)

I have tried various approaches including the following, assuming that I am addressing the first Brigade in the array:

AllBrigades [0] [2].push (MyUnit);

But when I trace this I just get undefined.

Arrays :: Declaring A Null Property Within An Object, Or Running A Function Within An Object Declaration

Feb 22, 2011

I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:

var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),

[Code].....

but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?
