ActionScript 2.0 :: FMX : Make A Button In Flash - Font Doesnt Accually Move But It Looks Like A Few Pixels Get Bumped Around?

How come when you make a button in flash, and you roll over it . the font seems to move some. It doesnt accually MOVE but it looks like a few pixels get bumped around. Its the wierdest thing.

I have a movie clip called column1_mc. when I click a button I need to move the movie clip in incremental moves consisting of 30 pixels.

column1_mc._y = 30;

Does not work because that is giving a _y coordinate.For example.I need to make the movie clip jump to _y 300 but make 10x30 pixel incremental jumps. Moving 10 times 30 pixel jumps.

Flash :: Font Rendering In Flex Sometimes Results In Characters A Couple Pixels Lower

Sometimes while typing in a textarea in Flex many characters will be rendered at one height then at some point on that same text line the rest of the characters are rendered a couple pixels lower than the rest. Here is an example, look at the last 'I' character, its low:

Sometimes changing the font size will fix this but its not consistent and its not something I can detect (and fix even if I could). Anybody got an idea why this happens? It happens for embedded and non-embedded fonts.

I'm moving a movie clip using actionscript (as2) instead of a motion tween (because I want to save file size) and I have this code on the first frame of the main timeline ("stone" is the movieclip instance name) and it tells the movie clip how many pixels to move in the x direction:

I have this code on the movie clip itself ("stone" is the mc instance name) to handle the actual moving of the movie clip:

The movement works fine, but the issue is that it starts out fast and then slows down over time (even though that amount of time is small). The result is that the movie clip seems to wiggle and vibrate before it stops. Is there a way for me to change the code so that it doesn't wiggle and vibrate? perhaps something with the math I'm just not totally understanding? I would like a nice consistent motion from start to finish, while being able to set the time it takes to move etc.

However, container_mc doesnt move to center until window is resized (draged with cursor or minimized then reopened) thus if end user never resizes it container_mc is always half way out of the window. I have a small tween animation, which i copied to AS3 code using the automatic feature in Flash CS3. the animation basically shifts a certain movie clip horizontally (only X axis) a few pixels. the line of cose which is responsible for this is: <Keyframe index="4" x="500"/> i wanted to make this animation slightly smarter. i want to have that code take the movie clip to a specific X coordinate no matter where it is on stage at the moment the animation is triggered.

for that i wrote the following code: var n:Number = work_btn.x - (-172.4); whereas work_btn is the instance name of the movie clip controlled by the code and -172.4 is the specific X coordinate i want the movie clip to go to when the animation is triggered. i figured that way, n stores the pixel distance between the current location of my movie clip and its final destination. now is there any way i can tell the code to move the movie clip by n amount of pixels?

Using Tween class maybe? I tried the easeOut. But if will write 2 Tween, the 2nd one will overwrite the 1st one, so I only see the obj moving in the 2nd Tween direction, not the 1st Tween direction. I know the coordinates for the 2nd Tween below is not correct (cos all coordinates shld follow the defined reference point), so I need to find out the logo's width and height. But is alright now cos it is for testing purpose.

I'm trying to make a series of images move on button press. The first will appear on the stage when the pages loads. There will be a next button which will make the current image move off to the left of the stage and the next move in to the stage from the right and stop in the center. There are about 10 images.

I also have to do the same to another page but with text and moving in vertically instead of horizontally. I have posted this at the bottom (as the images one is too big to post). Although this version is the one I did with tweens that did'nt work, you can have a play with it if you like?

My question is, what is the best way to do this? I've seen lines and boxes appear and move around on a variety of flash sites, so HOW IS IT DONE? Is it better to create the entire document and have certain sections reveal with a mask or is it better to use tweening to make it look like the lines/boxes are getting longer/bigger? Should action script be used in this sort of thing?

I'm making a menu. It consist of three mc's (btn1, btn2 and btn3) and two squares The two squares rescale horizontal in different directions depending on the button that is presses. When the squares come to an hold there is a little gap between them underneath the button that was presses and the button is going 20 pixels down into that gap. Below is the code I have used:

When the movie starts everything is fine. First the two squares are rescaling. When that is done the buttons are fading in and finaly btn1 is going 20 pixels down in to the gap. But what I would like to accomplish now is that when btn2 is pressed that first btn1 is going back up again when that is done that the two squares are rescaling untill the gap is below btn2 and that after that btn 2 is going down 20 pixels.

And that is where I have problems. Point one when I don't know how to integrate a if (if used) in the button event, so everything is going to move at the same time(btn2 already moves before the squares are in place and the squares are already moving before btn1 is back up again) and secondly the way I have it now btn1 is indeed moving back up again, but after that its up it also going back down again.

I have a swf file that loads into my main movie, and within that swf there is a masked image that i would like to scale using zoom in and out buttons and also by using a slider bar.However i cant find any tutorials that will allow me to combine the two.I have used the following code for the buttons. Which seems to work ok but i would like it to be a little smoother. (using speed or some sort of easing??)

well i want to make buttons that on rollover move to left, on rollout move back to their initial position, and if clicked, they but stay this time at the final rollover place, and be there until something else is clicked. When something else is clicked, the previous button , returns to its initial place. So i ve got it all figured out except for the freeze and move part when the buttons are clicked. All it does now , is when they are clicked they freeze at the position i want, but i havent got a clue how to update them, after so they start moving back, and reacting on rollover and rollout, when the next button is clicked.

I can make it all work if I place a second frame on my main stage and make the button gotoandplay that frame which has the animation on it. But the problem arises when the animation is done it just loops over and over. So I placed a gotandstop AS on the last frame. This only makes it so that if you want to click on the button a second time (to see the animation) you have to click twice

So we have a component we have written ourselves that deals with text display and translation between languages, reading translations from a file. Ideally what we would like to do is have this component be compatible with any font we can embed in the main .swf's library. What's the best way to do that?

Currently we are going down the route of having our component have an attribute for the font name, lets say 'Font1'. We drag the component into the .FLA file we want and then add a new font to the library called 'Font1' and set it to the typeface we want. This is proving to be inconsistent and problematic which implies it's not really an ideal way of doing it.

Is there anyway to achieve the feature we want? The key is flexibility, we want to easily support languages (hence the component) but we don't want design to be limited in their font selection. Its not practical to embed a range of fonts in the component for example, as it adds to file size and is restrictive.
