I want to load headlines that are linked to URL(s) into my flash movie where the dynamic txt box(tickertxt) is here:_root.scroll.scrollbox. tickertxt.I am working along with my programmer and he built php page that says:num=1&url1=ticker.php%3Fid%3D1&headline1=Test.[code]
I want to write out some names from a DB and then get it with loadvars and then put it in an array for easy using later, how do I do this the best way? First thing first I have made an ASP file like this: Code: <% Dim objConnect, objRS, SQL, strConn, i Set objConnect= Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set objRS= Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") [Code] .... How do I loop out this thing and put it all in an array =?
So far I'm able to load simple data ( like "name", "address" ...) or to create an array of simple items. I wonder how I can load external data to create an array of multiple choice questions, each of which consisting of ["text of question",["choice1", "choice2", ...], correctChoice]. The questions show one at a time. Something like what I did here: [URL]
I'd rather not use XML if possible, as I don't understand it v well yet.

Here is my actionscript. I cannot get it work: newsItems=new Array(); myVars = new LoadVars(); myVars.load("ticker.php?flash"); function () { for (x=1; x<total;x++){ newsItems[x]=new Array(); [Code] .....
I'm using an onLoad function (importing variables from a text file) and I'm creating arrays within a for loop in the onLoad function. I'm using something like this:
Code: this["dvdAry" + i] = this[indexAry[i]].split("##"); So say the first array is called dvdAry0 .
How can I access that Array from a function? Please note the function, the onLoad function and the arrays are all being created on the same timeline.I've tried tracing the array dvdAry0 from the function after the array is created in the onLoad function, but it comes up as undefined. Is the array created on the object that I'm using onLoad on?I'm using a loadVars Object called loadDVDsText.
One of the moderators, could you've a look at this tutorial: [URL] it doesn't works with me, maybe because I've 2004 so if you change loadVars() into LoadVars() it should work
I'm using loadVars to load a PHP URL with lots of sensitive information required for the Flash application.Only problem is that URL can be accessed via a web browser which raises security issues if someone gets a hold of this URL. Is it possible to have the PHP page only accessible via my Flash application?
I looked at the tutorial section to see how to get loadVars to load in data from PHP.
PHP code: //do league queries $query_mteam = "SELECT name FROM test ORDER BY name ASC";[code]......
Now I added the extra line in bold as I need to be able to use the variable I have grabbed from my PHP file using the above code (the var is called rows) and I need to be able to use this figuree to do some simple math.. but I can't seem to get it to do anything apart from appear in text fields....I want to be able to do:
row=row+5;
for example. In fact, I want to use the value of row to generate a certain number of buttons dynamically. This eventually will be a menu based on values from a database (mySQL and PHP) but I am stumbling at the first hurdle.
I'm working on a project built in Flash AS2.One of the things I need to do is load JSON data. In the past, I've had no problem with this - LoadVars works just fine. However, on this project, the JSON service that I'm calling requires the http request to include an ACCEPT header with "application/json".
LoadVars has an addRequestHeader method that allows me to add or change HTTP request headers, but according to the documentation, those headers are only sent with POST actions.Of course, in my case, the JSON service only allows GET requests.I tried using addRequestHeader anyway, but the header is not sent.(Of course, I could rebuild the application using AS3, which allows me to use URLLoader and URLRequest, but the application has WAY to much legacy AS2 code...)
It loads external swfs in ONLY WHEN a HTML button, sitting outside my main.swf but ON index.html is clicked - posting it's variable/value to my swf?
So what I am saying is - Flash will not be functioned to do it's loadVars magic, I want Flash to be ready & waiting for a new variable to arrive at any given time - THEN action a function depending on the value of the variable.
I'm just not sure on the limitations of Flash - the program where I thought absolutely ANYTHING is possible.
I'm having an issue with some AS3 Loadvars. This works fine when running as preview (^+Ent), however after publishing this doesn't work. I'm very new (this is my first 'dip' into the flash world!).
I have a Flash-file that loads external SWFs. There I use LoadVars to get external data from a server. When the data has arrived, I'm using setInterval to call a function that fades-in the content. But when I switch menus (a.k.a. unload one movie to load another) before all the data has arrived, Flash hangs for like 15 seconds and then shows me the infamous message script in this movie is slowing down Flash - would you like to abort it?(roughly translated). I attached an onUnload-function to the SWF that causes the major problems, where I use clearInterval to get rid of the interval and re-instantiate the LoadVars-Variable.
The problem is that it executes #Second before #First, which means that the object is not fullly loaded but the code continues nonetheless. Is there a way handle this? I have tried using a while loop, but this is ugly and makes flash crash. Is there any decent way to handle this, does it have to do with better code structure/program flow or is there a technical way to make it wait? Also note: This code is executed on the server side, which means there are no frames involved.
UPDATE:When projects get bigger, this gets very ugly, especially when you are retrieving mulitple things from a server, you have to use very deep nesting, you have to keep repeating the same code, example for buying a serial:
For the life of me, I've tried everything: I've researched LoadVars on Adobe forum, used David Powers' books, googled 'flash to php', LoadVars, etc. and tried sendAndLoad, send, and using $_POST, $_GET, $_REQUEST. $HTTP_POSTVARS but I keep getting this same error.
I have a Unix server running Apache/PHP 4 - LoadVars worked to load name-value pairs into an array -see thread)
My goal with this simple app is to prototype being able to pass a variable from flash to a variable in php.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in flash_to_SQL.php on line 5
Actionscript 2.0 code:
var c :LoadVars = new LoadVars(); c.testing = "123FOUR"; c.send ("
I have a flash movie that I need to read in a value from a PHP script in order to set which frame it starts from, I am using the following code:
[Code]...
The problem is this is not working - it won't get into the load event. If I run the PHP manually I get "&pageID=29". If I debug this locally I get "Who: undefined" in the trace output window. From all the example I have read, I seem to be doing this correctly but it just doesn't seem to be working. Flash: CS5 using Actionscript 2.0
This code is being run from a frameset in IE8. When the new window is opened, the form data is not being recognized. It appears that the http header, "content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded", is not being passed into IE and this is causing the post data not to be processed. The data is there, IE is just doing nothing with it.
This code works fine in FF and Chrome, and in fact the correct headers are passed in FF and Chrome.
NOTE: The new page is on a different site, but i don't know why that would cause a problem with a POST and not a GET.
I have tried adding the header to the send request, but that has no effect at all. The contenttype header is still missing and it still works everywhere but IE.
My current work around is to use a GET instead of a post, but that's ugly and it limits us in the size of data we can pass but for now at least it works.
I would like to send data from PHP to Flash however, it sends just fine but when displaying on Flash, it does not display the contents in the variable. Instead, it displays the name of the variable. This may be a simple answer but I'm quite new to this. Here is the code in Flash.
I am using the following code to load my flash file, contact a php script and decide what frame to play based on the results. THat is all working fine, the problem is that when the animation starts from Frame 2 - gotoAndPlay(2) - it seems to repeat a few frames over and over until the whole animation is complete.
I have done some reading up and the enterFrame is called many times so I can understand why the problem is there but I don't know how to resolve it. The interesting thing is, when I just use gotoAndPlay(2) in the if loaded section, it all works fine. It's only when it's in the onLoad for the loadVars that causes it to break. Using: Flash CS5 and Actionscript 2.0
I want to integrate my flash file with php code. I got the below code from
[Code]...
I did all the steps given in that forum but while running that code i got error Like 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method LoadVars. Warning: 1060: Migration issue: The method LoadVars is no longer supported. For more information, see the URLVariables class, the URLRequest.urlVariables and URLRequest.postData properties, and the URLLoader.dataFormat property.. 1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 5.
I'm basically sending some variables to a php script from flash and then returning some values back to flash from the script. The problem is that the values returned to flash are appearing correctly but do not test correct. My actionscript and php scripts are below (just samples displaying the the mechanics of what i'm trying to do):
I am curious if this is an okay implementation of the Array.filter() method.
[Code]...
I was not able to figure out an implementation of the callback function for the filter() method, where the callback was outside of the getGallery() function. I wonder if there is a way to get the isGallery function outside of the getGallery scope?
iSo let's say I have three different arrays of objects, and I want to combine them into one sorted array. I want the order to be such that the items from each array are evenly distributed throughout the sorted array.
If there were 3 xItems, 3 yItems, and 3 zItems, the sorted array would have this order: x, y, z, x, y, z, x, y, z
HOWEVER, even if the arrays are differing lengths, I still need to make them alternate as much as possible. If there were 6 xItems, 4 yItems, and 2 zItems, the sorted array should have this order: x, y, x, y, x, z, x, y, x, y, x, z
OK, I am trying to do my first simple user authentication for a test built in Flash. I'm just checking to see if someone with the same name and email exists in the mySQL database and then echoing out entryAllowed=false if they exist.
Code: PHP Code: //query is successful and these vars trace out in flash
I know how to remove duplicates from an array, but what I'm trying to do is prevent an item from ever being added to an array in the first place if it already exists. I'm pulling in data from an xml feed in a loop, and I thought that searching for that values index would work, but no matter what, the index is always -1. Here's my code:
[Code]...
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the indexOf function, but I thought it was supposed to return -1 if a value did not exist in an array. What am I doing wrong?
