I am trying to figure out how to pause or stop the snow in Kirupa's Snow 3.0 tutorial. There is already a thread with the same question answered for the Snow 2.0 tutorial, but I can't seem to get that to work properly. How can I achieve this on Snow 3.0?
View 4 RepliesI've been experimenting with this and I haven't been able to come up with an adequate solution. Hoping one of you Mathletes can point me in the right direction. I'm building a Snow Globe in ActionScript 3 and I need to come up with a set of equations to control two level of snowflakes - one level random, and the other interactive where a user can click on them.For the random snow, I need to have it create certain number of random x/y positions at the bottom of the globe, which is a circle with a radius of around 300. Then when the shake action occurs, They should randomly float toward the top, then fall back to a random position at the bottom of the circle again.
For the interactive snow, I need it to randomly layout, but I don't want flakes to overlap so that its easier to interact with them.
I created bubbles using the snow 3.0 tutorial from here at kirupa. I slightly altered the code so it would be for bubbles on a canvas of 800x500.The problem with the tutorial is that it is for snow moving downward on the y axis. for bubbles in the water, I need them going upward.which part of the code I need to alter so the bubbles will move up and not down? Also, I need the life of the bubble to last the length of the canvas.

View 4 Repliesi am experiencing a strange and unpleasant situation.I am using CS3 and upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 last night, along downloading the latest Flash Player for browsers.
Problem is that now all of my text block arent displaying the same line height that before i updated?????
I compared the same exact SWF made under Tiger and those made under Snow Leopard and the two arent identical, lines are misaligned regarding line height!
Has anyone tried the Snow 3.0 tutorial using Flash CS4? I followed all the steps and can't seem to get it work?
View 6 RepliesI did the excellent tutorial on Falling Snow for Flash CS4/AS3 on this website.I now want to add further graphics and animations to the snow for an e-card I'm creating.I have tried to add to the timeline and animate a logo, but then the snow just flashes on and off in one piece. Is there a way I can make the snow fall, say, halfway through my animation so I can add other things to it?

View 3 RepliesI hate to start a new thread but I didn't see one pertaining to this issue. I hope I am not alone. I recently bought a new iMac and it came with Snow Leopard OS. I ported over my Web Premium Creative Suite and all of my applications work great except for Flash CS4. I open the app to the intro screen but as soon as I try to open an existing project file or even to create a new project file, the app crashes immediately. I tried calling Adobe Support but they only turn me away, saying I need to purchase a $175 Support Plan for help. I just want my Flash to open. The same app works fine on my Macbook Pro (running Leopard). It seems adobe should be willing to help seeing as how the specifications say it is supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard.Anyway, I have tried installing all updates and Deactivating/Uninstalling and Reinstalling.

View 1 RepliesI've just switched over to Mac OS 10.6 and found that the line spacing has changed in my files. Basically it seems to have increased the line spacing so the static text fields take up more space. I've updated Flash and I'm now on 10.6.1 but the problem remains. It doesn't do this on 10.5.8 or in InDesign and SL (but it does do a similar thing in Quark 7.5). It doesn't seem to matter what font it is either. Does anyone have any suggestions?
View 3 RepliesWe have noticed Fonts shift down in our layouts. Our files are very messed up. One particular font that is doing this is TheMix. Anyone else have this happening? The same file opens and displays just fine under Leopard.
View 2 RepliesI made a flash movie with snow falling from the sky in Flash 8 (actionscript 2.0). However, the snow I made differs from the original. The original is here: [URL]. I put mine here: [URL]. You will notice that my snow only falls downward: there is no randomness for the flakes to go left or right. There is no movement. Where in the script below can I change that so that there's more movement for the flakes?
I use the following script for the snow itself:

I have been searching for hours for simple (mouse event) script that will pause my slideshow when I rollover it with the mouse....then play again when the mouse isn't over it...I will be targeting an instance (transparent movie clip that is over the stage and it extends the length of the movie).
View 6 RepliesWhen I'm watching larger videos (> 15 min) on the internet via flashplayer or divx, after some minutes, the video quality begins to decrease (like the video starts lagging). When I now press the pause button and resume the playing after a short period of time, like 10 seconds, the video quality is again like normal for another couple of minutes, but then the video quality again decreases, so I have to pause again for some seconds.
My question is, from a software design point-of-view, why does the pausing stop the video from lagging? I thought it could be because the software gets time to refresh its caches, but I would be really interested in the correct answer.
Basically I need to pause a Captivate movie (CP3) that is playing within a flash movie (CS4, AS3).
I have made a full motion recording with Captivate which I have imported into a flash movie. The flash movie is organised as a series of movieclips that play from the main timeline. My CP demo forms part of one of these movieclips (there are flash objects playing "on top" of it in different layers). I have a play/pause button on the main timeline that works to pause all of my movieclips EXCEPT for my captivate demo. This continues playing, while the movie clip is forms part of pauses, throwing everything out of sync.
how I can pause CP portion? My actionscript skills are minimal and I'm not even sure what object(s) to target.
I have a couple of Flash projects that were originally built in CS3. Last year I upgraded them to CS5 without trouble. Recently I have upgraded my Macs to Snow Leopard, and when I open both of these FLA files in CS5 on Snow Leopard, some of the fonts are insanely distorted.

View 1 Repliesim creating a presentation that has a bunch of links to websites and pdf files. right now the presentation opens fullscreen when first opened but if the user clicks one of the pdf or web links the clip minimizes and if the user tries to maximize the flash window the menu bar at the top is visible and cuts off some of the content.
is it possible to detect when the user tabs away from the presentation so the clip will pause automatically and i can tell the user to click to continue? i know this code will work fscommand ("fullscreen", "true"); that will make the presentation fullscreen again but i need the movie to pause if the user clicks a link. i have seen this before in games where the game will pause if i tab to another program and i have to click to continue.

If you add a 'Stop' anywhere on in the action script when using the arrow to go back and forward through slides it goes to the stops rather than the beginning of each slide.
I can't select anything in a tool windows. With one fla opened, i select "ESSENTIAL" in workspace, the interface, turn on, but when i select a draw tool orchange any preference on Flash CS5 Trial on Snow Leopard, the flash allways crash and close without message. View 1 RepliesI'm using a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. We have Adobe MC CS5.I'm experiencing serious problems with Flash CS5. The program locks up at "Initializing Tools" for several minutes at start up. Once the program opens it will crash if I try to create a blank document. Other Adobe programs work fine.Flash CS4 worked fine on this computer.Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and deleting all adobe documents from the configuration folders. It just seems like this machine is cursed or something.
View 1 RepliesThe problem is that every snowflake is created over everything else on the stage and I need to hide all snowflakes for some frames to make transmission between two scenes.Transmission is transparent black rectangle over the scene and alpha is slowly going to 100%... but the snowflakes are visible over the black rectangle - how to remove them all ?
View 1 RepliesI am very much new to AS3 and Flash and had a problem trying to get my Flash timeline to pause at a specific point if the mouse was over any part of the stage. If the mouse was not or no longer over the stage I wanted the timeline to continue playing where it had left off.
I managed to solve the problem after a few hours and would like to share my first piece of AS3 - it might help someone else who has a similar problem, or you might be able to improve it.
One of may main objectives was to make sure the code cleaned up after itself and left no listeners or timers running.

I'm trying to create a particular effect using the Kirupa tutorial for Flash Snow 3.0.The size of the stage I'm working with is 800x600, but I need the animation to only happen in the center of the stage, in an area approximately 400x400. I've tried masking to no effect I'm sure it's something that I just need to enter in the script,
View 1 RepliesIm writing an application that parses xml to display a menu system in Flash. The same loop that grabs the xml creates a new movie clip for each node(menuitem). I need to set a delay between the duplicated movie clips so they appear one after another rather than all at the same time. Ive tried a few different things (interval and timer) but havent got it to work.
