manage to create softshadow and there is a background on it.URL...the two girl have a white soft shadow on it. From what i know, the only way to do it is in photoshop but the background cannot be remove. Or bring a gif but the shadow won't be solid.

Out of the box, Flash CS4/AS3 doesnt seem to support the soft hyphen / discretionary hyphen (­ / U+00AD). Is there some trick to getting it to work, or is it simply not there?
View 1 RepliesI'm compiling a Flash project to an iPhone IPA file from the command line. I have an editable TLFTextField on the stage, but whatever I do, the softKeyboard on iOS won't pop up. Trying to set "needsSoftKeyboard" on the TLFTextField gives me an error when testing the movie via Flash: "property not found". The movie does load correctly on iOS, but still no keyboard pops up. It also doesn't matter if I put "pan" in the application descriptor file or not.
Basically I just want a keyboard to pop up to fill in text in an input field. What am I missing?
I can't seem to include <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> when creating XML in AS3. note: I am not trying to read it in, I need to create XML to save/process elsewhere.

I am trying to FINALLY make the switch to authoring in OOP, but there is one hitch that I can't wrap my head aroFor my first use of OOP, I wanted to make a "Dialogue box" object that I could share among multiple applications. This consists of a rectangle graphic with two dynamic text fields and a "close" button.It seems that objects exist as ".as" files - but if I want to use graphics and textfields that I have created in the Flash UI, where do those go, and how do I refer to them? Do I have to make all my graphics programatically? Or do I have to include a copy of them in the library of every fla file that will be using my object?

View 1 RepliesThis probably goes for all programming languages. I use Adobe Flash AS3 and for some reason that is boyond this post, I cannot use built-in dropshadow filters. I do, however, have bitmap data available, with color and alpha values. So there should be a way to draw my own dropshadow filter.... right? Any good existing algorithms I should go and check out? Not specifically looking for an AS3 implementation, any other example will probably allow me to convert the code.

It works pretty well, the only problem is that it makes the video much slower. If I take out the Drop Shadow Effect the video plays well. Is there a way to apply a Drop Shadow with AS3 without making the Video slower?
I have a TextArea and a Checkbox. I want to disable the SoftKeyboard when the checkbox is checcked, so the TextArea can be scrolled without it popping up. I can get the keyboard to disable when the Checkbox is clicked, but as soon as I click on the TextArea to scroll it pops back up. How do I enable/disable the keyboard with a checkbox? View 9 RepliesI am trying to make a xml based portfolio in Flash CS5. I want to use a UILoader to load external images, but I want the images to have a drop shadow when displayed. I tried saving the image with a drop shadow in Photoshop with a .png format. When it was uploaded the image didn't show the drop shadow and had jaggy edges. Normally I use a filter in Flash but the option isn't available for the UILoader object. if there is a way my images can be displayed with a drop shadow, otherwise I will do without.
View 1 RepliesI'm attempting to create a dynamic perspective shadow system in Flash 9 (AS 3) that would have the following constructor:

The function would duplicate the mcClipToShadow MovieClip to use as the base shadow, apply a 100% black tint, set the alpha to nAlpha, and apply a blur filter with Blur X = Blur Y = nBlur. Then a transformation Matrix would be applied that would skew the shadow sprite so that it was cast in the nAngle direction with length nDistance.
The only part that I'm having trouble with is solving the math for the Matrix. I've played a lot with the swf's in your tutorial to better understand how the matrix manipulates things, but I'm still having troubles doing the math properly. My goal is to simply plugin the variables from the constructor into the Matrix constructor and the proper shadow will result.
I have created a file where I have a custom mouse cursor using the following code:
Mouse.hide(); cursor_mc.startDrag(true); I have the mouse cursor in its own layer on the main timeline. In a layer below this one I have a movieclip symbol that when clicked I want to move to frame two of its own timeline and play.
The code I use for this is inside the movieclip symbol itself and it is:

The problem is the darn thing only works when the cursor symbol is in a layer below the movieclip on the main timeline and not in a layer above the movieclip on the main timeline. It wont even work when the custom cursor is in the same layer as the movieclip symbol.
Is there a work around to this or something else I could try. In actioscript 2.0 this never was a problem.
Is it possible to display the Soft Keyboard when debugging using ADL? If I use the existing properties I still don't see it. I want to check if my layout looks well when the Soft Keyboard appears, but for some reason I don't see it coming in ADL (Adobe Debug Launcher). I don't have a tablet to test it on for now so that isn't a solution. I don't see the soft keyboard or doesn't it exist in ADL?
View 1 RepliesHas anyone worked with SION (sioncenter) synth within flash to generate audio sounds? I have been having a play with it to generate a piano sounds for my on-screen piano. It looks promising but i seem to have got a really bad latency delay with it. I have trying to link the keys on the computer keyboard so the user can play the on screen piano. I wasnt too sure wether to put each key into an array or just have them as a movieclip on the stage. Just as a testing method i used the stage. I have found a few examples here: wonderfl.net/c/fbIa and the latency delay is certainly not as bad as mine. If anyone has used SION could they possible give me a tip of how to optimise my code? Heres the basics of what i have created so far:

my stage is a long, thin rectanlge, with an asphalt background on a distinct locked layer
on the stage i also have a movieclip of white crosswalk 'stripes' motion-tweened from left-to-right over the asphalt
i am trying to have these stripes fade away as they approach the right side of the banner
'fade' being the operative word here, i'm trying to create a mask layer in the 'stripes' movieclip that has a transparency gradient
basically, a recatangle moves left-to-right over the stage, and a mask layer above (aligned left), has a left alpha value of 0, so the rectangle disappears behind it. i've seen references to 'soft mask' and also animated AS solutions, masks are always far too complicated.
I have a Pure AS3 mobile project that I'm developing in Flex 4.5, and deploying on both Android and iOS.I have a TLF textfield that is set to editable, and when I touch on it on Android the soft keyboard shows up as expected, without me having to explicitly tell it to show up.
BUT on iOS, when I touch on it, I get the text field's focus event firing, but the soft keyboard doesn't show up. Anyone know how to make this appear, so the user can enter in text? it is possible to enter text in a pure AS3 mobile app on iOS.
I'm using Flex 4.5.1 with AIR 2.7 (and Flash Builder 4.5.1) to build an app for the Blackberry Playbook.
The app has a large textarea that needs to be resized when the soft keyboard shows up. I am able to hook into the soft keyboard events and do things there.
Now, I want to resize the textarea to fit the remaining part of the screen when the keyboard shows up. I know the current and destination size and want to use a smooth animation to show the textarea resizing. (I can't already set the height and can see the textarea being correctly resized in the keyboard_activating event - but I want to do it through an animation). I've tried using the Animate class, the spark.effects.Move class and none of them seem to work in this case. They seem to run the animation but the screen does not get refreshed!

View 1 RepliesIn AS3, I know how to accomplish this. One needs only to click "ActionScript Settings", and navigate to the SWC file under "SWC Files or Folders Containing SWC Files".
However, when the project is set to AS2, the "Actionscript 2.0 Settings" is a rather sparse menu, and adding the folder as a classpath doesn't seem to work.
