i have a swf in my library that i want to load to a movieclip... I gave to that same swf the linkage name of: 1

I have a flash file which loads a movie clip on the click of a menu item.Now I am trying to add some dynamic data (xml) within this movie clip - In short I do have a dynamic tet box, and can access it as follows:
_level0.pages1.page.forumText.text
The problem is how and where do I load my XML. This is my code to load the xml data I tried to add it in the Frame for the movie clip and it came back with the following error :
**Error** Symbol=pages1, layer=Layer 3, frame=3:Line 21: Statement must appear within on/onClipEvent handler
headlineXML.load("FlashFile.xml");
[code]....
Trying to load a movieclip from the library... BUT for some reason it just doesnt work... The linkage name that i use is "pic_1".
Code:
_root.mc_movies_area.mc_area_1.loadMovie("pic_1");
The desired affect is simple: I have a single button... with each click I want it to load text into a dynamic text field and load a corresponding picture or movieclip.There are only three unique text/image combinations- after its displayed the third, with the next click I want it to just start over. All the text functions perfectly with each click.
The problem is:I use "createEmptyMovieClip" then use the resulting clip as a loader clip.. With the first click I want a movieclip from the library to load, so I use the "attachMovie" method- it displays the first library fine.With the next click I want to load an external swf- so I call the "loadMovie" method of the loaderclip... The external swf loads just fine replacing the first library clip.The third clip is where I have problems... now I want to load another library item into the loaderclip... so I tried using the attachMovie method again but the external swf remains static... then with the next click, I discover the first library item no longer loads and the external swf remains still playing- it's like once it's been loaded into the loaderclip it cant be moved...
So I tried adding the "unloadMovie" method in the code for the third click.. it successfully removed the swf... but the next line of code immediately after the unload statement, doesn't work. The line calls the attachMovie method for the loaderclip... but the library item doesnt load... Oddly enough, with the next click, the first library item now does load as if everything's fine... It seems like you cant use the unloadMovie and attachMovie on the same executing code? if that makes any sense... the basic idea was that if I couldnt get the attachmovie method to replace the loaded external swf, then I would use the unload method to remove it, then have code immediately after, to then execute the attachMovie method... but it still doesnt load the library clip. and I know it's not a type-o, because when I comment out the loadMovie and unloadMovie statements, it loads both the library items perfectly ? The code is below
var increment:Number = 1;
var verbiage1:String = "Hello World1";
var verbiage2:String = "Hello World2";[code].............
I made a movie that has sound in it being activated and deactivated by using the sound object and linkage id's and it works like a champ.Now i take that movie and load it into another movie like so.....
actNav_mc.loadMovie("test.swf");
Now the sounds dont play or work.So just for fun i brought the sound files into the library of my _parent movie and the sounds worked. Since i must have the sounds in the loaded file this is not a viable option. I then tried using the import linkage on an empty mc in the parent movie and it worked but i could shut the sound off.What i originally had....
navloop_sound = new Sound();
What fixed it....
navloop_sound = new Sound(this);
Flex complains if I want to create an object from a library symbol with linkage: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method [linkage name]. So to avoid this, I create a class for that symbol, in this case extending BitmapData using Flex's new ActionScript Class feature. Flex create that class for me and the constructor looks like this: public function CustomBitmapData(width:int, height:int, transparent:Boolean=true, fillColor:uint=null)

i have created a rotating menu using xml file for the icons to appear and the code is on a keyframe but nothing on the stage so its talkin to the xml file, but my problem is that i have created movieclip so when i click on a button i want it to take me to the movieclip but i do not know how to do that with code.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create a linkage to swap movie clip dynamically. I already create a linkage and after my movie clip symbol actuall say Export: contact_idea. But when I try to attachMovie("contact_idea"). It does nothing. Is there anyway that I can test that the linkage is actuall linked?

View 4 RepliesHow do I reference a library movieclip in a class?I couldn't get it to work entering the name of the class in the linkage properties (as2 class name text field). The variable was undefined.
View 4 RepliesI have a movie clip that holds one bitmap image, some simple AS3 to change the image displayed, and a ton of bitmaps I've imported into my library.Currently, I swap the images by changing the bitmapData
holder.bitmapData = new test2(1,1);
but this requires me to check off 'Export for ActionScript' in every symbol. I'd rather not go through every bitmap in the library and do this, is there some way to reference them by their library name?
I have a Hero class that extends a Unit class that extends a SelectableObject class.[code]I have a movieclip in the library that links to the Hero. Inside the movieclip is another movieclip with the instance name "selector".In the Hero I can use selector.gotoAndStop (n) because the movieclip is linked to that class, but I can't do that for the SelectableObject because it's not linked to that.Is there a way to make selector.gotoAndStop (n) work for the SelectableObject? I can't even do var something:* = this.selector because the movieclip isn't linked to it.Or should I just remove the instance name for the selector in the movieclip so I can declare var selector:* = this.getChildAt (1) in the SelectableObject (the selector being the second child)?
View 3 Replieshow to add multiple instances of a movieclip via it's linkage...
this is the script that adds a single instance to the stage.
code: package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.Event;

In my project I have to classes that inherit the MovieClip class. Then I create a movie clip and in the library I click on linkage and I set on AS2 class field the name of the first class. Inside this movie a create another movie clip and I set his AS2 class to the second class. The problem is, when I run the file the properties of the nested movie clip are not available for the parent. What a mean is that in the constructor of the first class I cannot acces the methods of the nested movie clip. Somehow I need the nested movie clip to be initialized first and then the parent.
View 1 RepliesI have an mp3 exported for actionscript with the linkage name bgmusic.When I play the sound using a sound object, it works fine.However, I take that same .swf and load it into another movie and the thing breaks... the sound doesn't play.How do I fix the linkage so that it'll play again?
View 5 RepliesIn Flash CS3 I was able to duplicate any MovieClip from an external SWF by loading the SWF, and then executing the following code:
var targetClass:Class = MovieClipToDuplicate.constructor;
var duplicate:MovieClip = new targetClass();
Note that the MovieClips I was duplicating did NOT have any linkage explicitly defined. Flash would automatically assign a unique class to each MovieClip. Now, in Flash CS4, when I try to do the same thing the .constructor property returns only the "MovieClip" class, such that the "duplicate" variable above is but a blank MovieClip. If I compile the external SWF using CS3, my old code still works. But I want to do it in CS4.
I have a movieclip I created usind createEmptyMovieClip(). How can I assign a Linkage Id to that clip?My reason for this is I later want to attach that clip I created to another clip using attachMovie() which requires a Linkage Id.
View 9 RepliesI have a class that has a constructor which accepts some parameters.
Code:
class MyClass {
var myNumber:Number;
function MyClass(number) {
myNumber = number;
}}
Is there a way I can link this to a movieclip and pass the parameter? From what I've found there are two ways to link the class to a movieclip, one using the registerClass and another typing the name intro the Linkage Box in the Library. But in both cases there are no parameters being setup.
How do I reference a library movieclip in a class? I couldn't get it to work entering the name of the class in the linkage properties (as2 class name text field). The variable was undefined. I know I'm missing something....what is it?

View 0 RepliesIn my library I have a movieclip that is linked to my AS3 custom class TweenButton. On the movieclip there is a textfield. I would like to be able to set the .text property of the textfield through TweenButton's constructor, which must be so simple, but I haven't been able to make it work. Here's the code and source files:
