View 4 RepliesI am very new to action script, and using action script 2.0, I am having a problem getting an input textbox to read in mathematical formulas. To enter 5x^2, the key sequence to be used is {5}{x}{2}. i.e., the characters must be formatted as it is being typed.
Ultimately, I want to enter equations like 5x^2-4x-2.
The textbox should not allow non-numerical characters other than x.
I want to display a Quadratic equation with format like (4x2). I want to display 2 as superscript automatically after typing x in the textbox.

I need the ability to click the Bold button and it bolds or unbolds at the cursor so if I hit the bold button what I type from that point on will be bold until I hit the button again and then it goes back to regular. I am able to change it to bold or unbold by selecting the text and clicking the button but I also need to do it without selecting.
I'm using Flash CS4 and AS2. Currently I have a fully functional contact form in flash that works along with PHP.The problem is: anything you type in the input spaces is accepted and, thus, sent to my mail.Is there a way to impose a format to the input text? For example, the "e-mail address" field should be entered in URL... format and the "Name" or "Body" should not have less than 3 characters. So far I'm just using the properties box to format the text. Using a.2.0. It works easily in a small test, but in a larger .fla, the results dynamic text field retains the formatting of the input field.

What is the best way to handle the text formatting to add punctuation and make the citation entries? Your text tutorial on color and other properties is very good, as well as the input text that returns the words, but how do I go one more step to add my punctuation to the user's input?

In actionscript, is there any way to format the input text so that a dash or space is inserted after a set number of characters? So instead of xxxxxxxxxx

I'm making a form in flash for an application I'm building. In the Email text input, I want to check that the user has entered a real email address. Obviously as long as its text@text.text then I'm happy. How do I check what the have entered a valid format?

Currently i have one input box named input_1 with a variable attached to it named "choc_1".
Also, i have a dynamic text box named dynamic_1 with variable "choc_1".
When the user types something on the input box then the dynamic box changes instantly and displays what the user has written.
auto scale-size the fonts to a smaller size if the user types many letters.
The input_1 box has a 13 character limit. My initial font size is 200, i want to scale down so when the user types 10 letters they fit the box and they don't go out of screen. I want to use one line, so wrap or multiline is not possible.

In my Flex 3 application the user enters IP addresses into a textInput object. As the user enters the numbers comprising the ip address I would like to add the '.' on the fly rather than waiting until latter, so that if the user types 127000000001 I would like the textInput control to display 127.000.000.001. I've been trying to make a class that extends textInput and adds the '.'s to the object's text property in the Event.CHANGE or Event.TextInput handler. Sadly, my extra '.' never gets displayed, the numbers appear without dots just as the user typed them.
View 2 RepliesI am using an mx:DateField in Flex and it works nice with the date picker, but I also need it to be editable, so I set editable="true". The problem is that now the user can enter anything they want - even though I have a formatString="YYYY-MM-DD" set. The date picker honors this format, but if the user enters in the format MM/DD/YYYY they can - or they can even enter garbage data.
I realize I can set up a data validator to check that it is a valid date and in the appropriate format as per the flex docs, but I was hoping to have something I have seen in other languages where the text field would show something like "0000-00-00" and the user clicks in to the field and it allows them to change only the digits (the zeros) and can not type any alpha characters or add/remove any length.
I got a date field that i wish user to key in in a certain format likedd/mm/yyyyBut after my user key in, how can i validate and check that they key in in the correct format?

I added this to my document class:

The problem now is that changes of myFormat (in size or color) don't have any effect on the text in the text fields. Why is this and how can I improve this? Did I forget to import a certain class again?

View 2 Repliesthe last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:

I have 2 keyframes on my timeline.The first keyframe has an input text field (instance name: inputTxt) and a button (instance name: btnTester).When the user clicks the button it takes them to the second keyframe where their text should be displayed in a dynamic text box (instance name: txtBox).I get a null value in keyframe 2.

i have an one input text box, first i type text into it and press space bar at this it will become empty and ready to accept next input from starting position, i make the text box empty by
textbox.text = "";
but the cursor not set to initial position in text box it consider "" as "space" and cursor will display after one space only, i need that cursor again move to starting position..

This code corresponds to a quiz question where the correct answer is either blue or green. I get the #1009 error if I input "blue". The answer "green" seems to work ok. What's wrong with my code? Is there a better way to make is so more than one answer works? Something like "blue" or "green" or "otheranswer", etc..?
