I have this function:
Code:
MovieClip.prototype.changeColor = function(mode, kl, kh, rl, rh, gl, gh, bl, bh) {

I want to create some functions similar to how GreenSock's tweening class works.With the optional parameters by name in brackets. {}[code]I get this error: "Parameter initializer unknown or is not a compile-time constant."Pretty sure it's the "Parameter initializer unknown", but I don't know what to do about it.

I'm having my first go at creating a custom component that lays out items in a grid. I have made a selection of inspectable properties accessed though getter/setter methods. Some of these parameters are dynamic, and change when the user resizes the component or changes another linked value. Is it possible to make the parameters panel update with the new values when a change takes place. Without this, the user will not have accurate feedback on the values stored in the component. Does anyone know if this is possible (or difinitely impossible)?

I want to add things to the display list, some will have event listeners and some not. Is it possible to make an argument optional so it doesn't throw an error if it's not there when calling the function?

I'm revisiting some old code that filters XML, but this could easily apply to the parameters of a method (the way I'm using it, it essentially is). This is a problem I feel like I run into a lot and don't know a good way around this. So the problem is that I've got 3 arguments. They're all optional. I want to see which ones are presents and test if their values based on which ones are present (sorted according to likelihood):

Let's say I have a function in a class with two required parameters and two optional:
Code:
public class Person extends Sprite {
private var haveToWork:Boolean;
private var hoursOfSleep:Number;
private var gotANewVideoGame:Boolean;
private var gotAHotDate:Boolean;
[Code] .....
All of that setup for this question: on the second call of the areYouHappy function, how do I keep the gotANewVideoGame variable from having a false value assigned to it?

I'm using FlashBuilder 4 beta2. My base class has a function foo():
protected function foo(s:String, z:String=null): void{}
Literally "foo" so that there's no chance I'm stepping on a built-in method. I am getting an
"Incompatible override" error when attempting to override the method in a subclass:
override protected function foo(s:String, z:String=null): void{}
Does the optional parameter do something "behind the scenes" that makes it illegal to override the method?

I have figured out the following: Well, as you see the function moveStuff accepts three arguments, namely:
objectdurationeasingWhen easing has a default value, I get an error. But if it doesn't have a default value, then it works fine, the code would look like so then:
Code:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
var animTween:Tween;

I want to import a video for optional playback into a flash animation. Now, the animation is a loop and replays after 120 frames or so. I noticed when I exported my moviemaker video and imported it into flash, it automatically asked me if i wanted it to arrange it to fit or not. the thing is, i don't want the video to automatically play like flash does for default. What i want is to be able to have it look like how a video looks in youtube 'before' you play it..you know how it has that 'arrow' sitting on it with a black screen showing
you that it's ready to be played if you want it to? well, that's what i want. so, if someone stumbles upon my animation loop on the web, they will see a little video in the upper corner that has the ability to play but it doesn't start
playing right when they get to the page.Also, when they play the video, the length is obviously longer than the loop of my animation, but I obviously don't want it cutting off when my loops ends and restarts, so is there a way to code where it will keep playing on it's own timeline apart from what the flash animation loop is doing? (it should be able to play all the way through, end, and be able to be played again no matter how many loops the animation goes through)second thing i want, is the video to be small..like maybe 220 X 180 in size.
when i exported in Moviemaker, I actually got a video size that I liked but the quality looked poor and sounded poor (I went with the Pocket PC export 148kbps or something like that). Now, was the quality poor just because Flash had to cut it off because of the animation loop restarting or is it going to be poor just cuz PocketPC export is a bad choice? In other words, what export choice should I go with in Moviemaker to get the desired results i want (with the desired width + height I want as well)?
Do you have to code to make it be a video that's got the arrow/blk bkgrd i.e. not playable til a user clicks...or do you just have to export it a certain way in Moviemaker to make it's format that way?

In ActionScript 3 you can declare optional parameters like this:function (i:int = 0, s:String = "", o:Object = null):void { }So you can check if the user passed parameters s and o because you can test against the empty string or the null object if(s && o)...But how do you allow an int to be truly optional? What if all values for i are valid, including 0, negative and positive integers? And what if you want to enforce integer (not use Number?)what's the best practice here? the (...) rest may work but then you can't enforce a certain number of parameters at runtime, nor can you make for useful code completion?

I've a regex that matches comma separated numbers with an optional two digit decimal part in a given multiline text.
/(?<=s|^)d{1,3}(,d{3})*(.d{2})?(?=s|$)/m
It matches strings like 1, 12, 12.34, 12,345.67 etc successfully. How can I modify it to match a number with only the decimal part like .23?
EDIT: Just to clarify - I would like to modify the regex so that it matches 12, 12.34 and .34
And I am looking for 'stand alone' valid numbers. i.e., number-strings whose boundaries are either white space or start/end of line/string.

I am not new to regex but have come across a problem I can't seem to solve. I'm trying to locate a specific HTML tag that has a specific attribute/value pair (it may have other attributes, too, but those are optional), extract it's contents as a backreference and wrap a new custom tag around it. The original tag is:

Can we skip an optional parameter and assign value to the parameter after the skipped one?
For example I have a function:
public function Dialog(message:String,title:String="Note",dialogsize:int=99):void
{
}
I can easily call the function with a message and a title:
Dialog("HELLO","Intro");
Is there a way to skip the title and just pass in the dialogsize? I've tried it but can't make it work:
Dialog("HELLO",,dialogsize);
Is it possible to skip some optional parameters without using (rest) parameter?

I have a script that loads a movie clip at a different location every time on the stage:
photo1._x = Math.random() * 600;
photo1._y = Math.random() * 600;
This works fine. All I would like to do now is add a minimum and maximum of some kind so that my clip never load hanging half off of the stage. I tried this among other things:
photo1 = Math.min(stage.width - 100, stage.width - 100);
photo1 = Math.max(stage.width - 100, stage.width - 100);
I tried a number of other ways to add x and y parameters but never got the result I wanted.
