Apr 20, 2011I have a bug to fix in work where the UK Pound symbol, £, is allowed in the domain name. I checked the EmailValidator source and can see that it is not a disallowed symbol, whereas things like the dollar sign are:

As you can see DISALLOWED_DOMAIN_CHARS string does not include the £ sign. Was thinking of monkey patching (basically copying the entire class, editing it, and adding it to my src - for those not in the know), but we use RSL's, so that would be problematic.
Flash :: Change Visibility Of Symbol Instance From Inside Another Symbol's Script
Nov 22, 2011I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.
I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?

Mar 8, 2010I just learned how to make a basic slideshow of images where one image shows for 3 seconds and then fades out and then a new one fades in, on and on. I imported my images, converted each image to a movie clip symbol and now they're arranged in my timeline. I need to add a NEW image at the very beginning of the the timeframe. I keep trying to Insert --> Frame, etc., but I'm not seeing a new first position in the timeline where my image will go. I'm used to video editing timelines and Flash is a real challenge for me.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Insert XML Content Inside A Flash Movie?
Jan 29, 2007I have a flash mp3 player that I want to embed in a page and I need to insert the data of two external .xml files in an action inside the first frame (there are some server limitations that don't allow reading of external xml, txt and js files). The action I have now is:

so, what I want to do is paste the contents of those two .xml files inside my Flash movie somewhere so the above script accesses them directly and does not have to call outside files. Is there a tutorial somewhere that outlines this procedure? I know that this is the contrary from what .xml is used for but I can't do much now..

What i would like to do, (i am not an actionscript expert and did this following a tutorial) is to include a download button for the track which is being listened, be able to insert the playlist 'track buttons' inside the scrollpane on the stage, and sort an annoying bug which makes the music form the player continue even when i leave the section of the site where its in, keeping the music in the background running and starting a new track ontop every time i renter the section where the player is placed.

Nov 11, 2011I bought Flash recently and I'm getting started on making a game, a platform shooter game, thing. What I have, is a button on the main stage that I want to activate a function in an instance. But that instance is inside a symbol. So it's Stage->Character->Gun. But if I put down:
Shoot.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, Fire);
//Shoot is the button on the stage

Derp(); //This being the function I want to be activated

This is the code in the Gun instance:

It will give me an error saying "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Derp." So basically it's telling me it can't get to this code because it's not on the same stage. How can I get an instance to be recognized by all code in my project, regardless of we're it is in the project? I want to keep all my symbols where they are, so external ActionScript file won't be good if I have to recreate the object on the stage.

These other clips are named clip1_mc etc.This big movie clip is dropped onto a frame in the main timeline so it plays when the program loads. Apr 23, 2005I have two flash files (say screenOne.fla and gameA.fla). After importing the main symbol of screenOne.fla into gameA.fla as a movieclip symbol (call it screenOneSymb), the simple buttons in the instance of screenOneSymb do not work. By "do not work" I mean they have no rollover, not mouse action, nothing. If I go into the edit "screenOneSymb" in gameA.fla and turn on "Control->enable simplebuttons" the buttons will work while in edit "screenOneSymb" but not on the main flash stage. I've worked around it, but this is driving me crazy. How do I import multi-layered movieclip symbols (with buttons and animations, etc, etc) and get them to work out of the box?

Aug 25, 2011I have an Flex 4 application (not AIR) which has some floating windows that act essentially as modeless dialogs.Right now, if two of these are open at once they function as siblings which are both active and whose controls are enabled for user interaction.I now need to maintain some notion of which one is "active" in the application. I don't want to /disable/ the non-active ones so as to blur them or prevent input on their controls.
I basically want to replicate basic OS window management: when you click or type into a control in one window it comes to the front and its title bar looks "active" and the others then look "inactive". Just like with a bunch of explorers in Windows.
