Flash Simplebutton Inside Symbol (movieclip) Instance Not Working?

I have two flash files (say screenOne.fla and gameA.fla). After importing the main symbol of screenOne.fla into gameA.fla as a movieclip symbol (call it screenOneSymb), the simple buttons in the instance of screenOneSymb do not work. By "do not work" I mean they have no rollover, not mouse action, nothing. If I go into the edit "screenOneSymb" in gameA.fla and turn on "Control->enable simplebuttons" the buttons will work while in edit "screenOneSymb" but not on the main flash stage. I've worked around it, but this is driving me crazy. How do I import multi-layered movieclip symbols (with buttons and animations, etc, etc) and get them to work out of the box?

I created a button (button symbol), inside this button symbol there is a vector shape which will change colours in mouse over and a dynamic text field. i want to use this button symbol in more than one locations in my stage. so i need to change the label of these instances (by changing dynamic text ). but i can't access the dynamic text in as3 using following code,
btnsample.txtbtnlabel.text = "button label"
this code is working fine for a movie clip symbol but not for a button symbol.

I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.
I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?

I bought Flash recently and I'm getting started on making a game, a platform shooter game, thing. What I have, is a button on the main stage that I want to activate a function in an instance. But that instance is inside a symbol. So it's Stage->Character->Gun. But if I put down:
Shoot.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, Fire);
//Shoot is the button on the stage
function Fire(evt:MouseEvent):void{
Derp(); //This being the function I want to be activated
}
This is the code in the Gun instance:
function Derp():void{
//epic code goes here
}
It will give me an error saying "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Derp." So basically it's telling me it can't get to this code because it's not on the same stage. How can I get an instance to be recognized by all code in my project, regardless of we're it is in the project? I want to keep all my symbols where they are, so external ActionScript file won't be good if I have to recreate the object on the stage.

I created a movieclip symbol and exported to actionscript, I created the .as file:

"graphics" is an image imported on the stage inside my symbol, but it seems not to be accessible this way (I get an error), nevertheless it works this way in as3 then what is the right way in as2 ?

i'm trying to use compiled assets and code from a swc. Inside a new fla I select the swc to be included when exporting. When create the instance in the timeline of the code works and I can see assets that are inside the swc and trace a propertie from the same object. The problem is only when doing the same inside a movieclip, can't reach the assets (movieclip) but I can still trace properties from the class. I've uploaded the working files: master.fla is the one that creates the swc. template.fla is where I test the swc. files (This are cs4 .fla + .swc + .as)

I've created a Button in Adobe Flash CS5, it's a Symbol, and its type has been set to Button.
The button has a dynamic textfield with the instance name label.
I've set the class of this Button to MenuButton, and I've set the class to Export for ActionScript.
This is the code of the MenuButton class:

i created a flash form which collected data and sent it to an asp file which inturn sent it to me as an email. (for my website).
The form worked fine, as a standalone swf file, BUT now its not working since i did this:

So, this is my thought-process:
First, I make an Array to hold all my Buttons. Then I make a loop and throw all the instances of the Buttons inside.
ActionScript Code:

Every works up to here and looks pretty sweet. Then things get tricky. I would like to be able to create Text, specifically tlf, as part of the instances of the Buttons, so that when I mouseOver the text is grows and shrinks proportionally with the Button. I'm stumped, and exhausted my knowledge of AS3. I tried to make a separate array with TLFTextFields, and things just got funky. I am using TLFTextField, because there is an option to make them read-only. Somehow I need to make them inside the Buttons.

I'm editing a flash site that needs a multi video player. I've already added a few other features to the site, so know the drill now... This video player just doesn't load the external files to it. I'm doing exactly the same thing I did with the other elements, but this doesn't seem to want to work. I've triple checked the spelling of 'config.xml' and even tried changing the action script settings to frame 2, which just makes all the preloaders spin around!

This is my first time coding a website using ActionScript. So far everything has went very well, I designed the website in Photoshop, and imported to Flash CS5. Then I cleaned everything up, and started adding navigation to the various pages using buttons.The website is constructed in a very simple manner, there are five main pages and they are connected by buttons on a static navigation bar (the first page, home, doesn't have a corresponding button). Then there are nine sub pages, that each contain information on a character of the game, and are connected to corresponding buttons in the 'Character' layer/MovieClip. My four menu buttons (Story, The World, Characters, Extras) all navigate correctly without problems.
The problem arises because inside my Characters page (a movie clip) are nine buttons, each linking to a different page. These buttons should bring the timeline to the frame specified, but when the buttons are clicked nothing happens. I've spent hours searching for a solution to this, but with no avail, and I have a feeling the answer is prettysimple.gotoAndStop("gowang", "Scene 1");line in the Gowang character button function with:MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop("gowang");

I have a SimpleButton that contains a different MovieClip for the Up, Over, and Down states. These MovieClips all have 10 frames and corresponding frame labels. I can use gotoAndStop on the MovieClip in the Up state, but that only works until I hover over the button. Adding stop() commands in the timeline seems to give unpredictable results. Is there a way to get a SimpleButton working with the Up and Over states with a multi-frame MovieClip?

Basically there's an object in a movieclip. I want to find the location of that object in relation to the movieclip, not of the object's symbol. So when i look at the x and y of it, it wont show 0, it will show the x and y location in the movieclip it's in.
