As3 :: Access Dynamic TextField In SimpleButton Instance (button Symbol) By It?
May 6, 2010
I created a button (button symbol), inside this button symbol there is a vector shape which will change colours in mouse over and a dynamic text field. i want to use this button symbol in more than one locations in my stage. so i need to change the label of these instances (by changing dynamic text ). but i can't access the dynamic text in as3 using following code,
btnsample.txtbtnlabel.text = "button label"
this code is working fine for a movie clip symbol but not for a button symbol.
this may be a basic thing, but i couldn't find an answer by serching internet. I have created a simple button - Istance name = "btnsample"and there are two layers layer 0- button design with rollovers - layer 1- dynamic text field - instance name = "txtbtnlabel"btnsample.txtbtnlabel.text = "new button label;but it's giving followin error :-119:Access of possible undefined propety txtbtnlabel through a reference with static type flash.display:simpleButton.
I have two flash files (say screenOne.fla and gameA.fla). After importing the main symbol of screenOne.fla into gameA.fla as a movieclip symbol (call it screenOneSymb), the simple buttons in the instance of screenOneSymb do not work. By "do not work" I mean they have no rollover, not mouse action, nothing. If I go into the edit "screenOneSymb" in gameA.fla and turn on "Control->enable simplebuttons" the buttons will work while in edit "screenOneSymb" but not on the main flash stage. I've worked around it, but this is driving me crazy. How do I import multi-layered movieclip symbols (with buttons and animations, etc, etc) and get them to work out of the box?
I have another problem I create a button in the library, it has a background graphic on a layer and a textField, the textField has a instance name defined in the properties panels and some text. I manually place some instance of the button on stage, I give them different instance names and voilĂ a new problem arise when with actionscript I try to assign a new text to the textField inside a button it throws me error 1119. A quick look at the menu option debug ->list objects, shows me that the instance name of the textField inside the button it is not what I defined but it was replaced with some random name like "instance66"I did a test with a movieclip instead of a button and I can correctly access my textField with the instance name that I manually defined. Why that can be the same with the button? And if for some arcane reason cant be possible to access a manually defined instance inside a button WHY flash give me the possibility to give an instance name to a dynamic textField inside a button?
I've created an animated scene in Flash, with a bar chart.The bar is a MovieClip symbol containing a large rectangle and a TextField.I'd like to access the TextField using actionscript, but I can't seem to reference it.
Each bar in the scene has its own instance name, so that's easy to find.
But how do I modify the text in the textfield within the symbols?
I am trying to use a font symbol from an external shared library. When I place the script below in my frame, trying to format a textfield on the stage, the textfield disappears. Only when I place another element (from the same shared library) in the stage, the textfield responds to the script. Although, when I tried to create a static text using the same font symbol, the dynamic textfield dissapeared, while the static text got the font symbol without any trouble.
var myFormat = new TextFormat(); myFormat.color - 0x999999; myFormat.font = "Harmony";//Harmony is the Identifier of the symbol myFormat.size = 16; _root.my_txt.embedFonts = true; _root.my_txt.text = "Some text"; my_txt.setTextFormat(myFormat);
I would like to make a dynamic text field wich write the instance name of the symbol when the cursor is over one. I have more than 1300 symbols so it would be a really big help if I wouldn't have to write thousands of lines.
How would I reference a button instance on the main timeline in the actionscript within a movie clip symbol?For example: btn1.addEventListener (MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, main1Over);where btn1 is an instance of a button on the main timeline but is not found within the symbol itself.I will then be dragging that movie clip onto the main timeline when it's finished.
Using CS3 Flash Pro, AS2 or AS3Once the dynamic TextField is converted to a Movie clip symbol,access to that TextField is lost / broken.Could this be a "Class" issue?How do I enable the dynamic text to be passed into the Movie clip symbol?
A designer gave me an fla file with his design for a banner with some buttons and it is my job make those buttons do stuff. However, I can't seem to get a reference to any of them in actionscript. I am using CS5.5 fp9 and as3. The buttons in the design are instances of symbols (graphic) from a library. Through the 'edit symbols' menu in the top right corner of the window that displays the design, I can navigate to the different buttons and I managed to change them to type button or movieclip so that I could give them instance names. However, even with instance names, I still can't access them from actionscript.
I think it may have something to do with the way these symbols have been added to the stage. I can see them in the design view and when I run the project, so they must be on the stage right? However I cannot select them in the design by clicking on them. Only by using the 'edit symbols' menu can I select them.
It seems that if you 'lock' stuff in design view, you can't work with it in developer view either. Not even in actionscript! The buttons in the design I received were locked from the beginning, it didn't even occur to me that it could be something as silly as that!
I've been trying to change the text within a SimpleButton instance using this:
var drawButton:SimpleButton = main.drawButton; var upButton:DisplayObjectContainer = drawButton.upState as DisplayObjectContainer; var upButtonText:TextField = upButton.getChildAt(1) as TextField;
I just spent three hours on trying to understand basic positioning of TextFields and SimpleButtons...
I have a movieclip with a dynamic TextField and a SimpleButton inside. The TextField is NOT inside the SimpleButton (because then I can't change the text dynamically).
I want the TextField centered in the SimpleButton but when I set the Textfield.x it is displayed somewhere completely different than when I set the SimpleButton.x to the same value. Regardless of if I do i programmatically or not.
I was hoping to extend the simple button class in order to have it contain a text field that I can set with code but still have the benefits of the up/over/ states etc... (To set a textfield within a SimpleButton doesn't seem possible with SimpleButton out of the box, you cant reference anything in it).
I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.
I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?
Is there a way to assign an 'Instance Name' to a dynamic Textfield' using the flashplayer5 export settings? Export gives me this error message : WARNING: This movie uses features that are not supported in the Flash 5 player Symbol=uitelgMc, layer=Layer 2, frame=1:Flash MX Text Field Instance Name Is there a workaround since I have to keep the movie fp5 compatible and I want to use the XML object to load text into the textfileds.
I need to have a button that contains a text box, and have the text change. First, is there a way to access a text box directly in a SimpleButton? While I know this doesn't work, it would look something like Code: btn.upState.textField.text="Text"
Second, since I could not get that to work, I made a movie clip, put the button i made in it, and simply put the text box over the button. The problem this creates is that when the mouse is hovering over just the button it is in the over state. When the button moves over the text box it goes back to the up state. Why it does this and if it is possible for the button to still be in its over state when the mouse is over an object that is on top of the button itself?
In my timeline I have a button, with an instance name of view_only_button. On my actions layer, I have code that is attempting to add a listener for a MOUSE_DOWN event. The frame that has the button is the same as where the actionscript is going, but of course it is two different layers. When I try accessing the variable by the code below, I get the error:
Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
ActionScript Code: view_only_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, viewOnlyDownHandler); function viewOnlyDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void{ //Code to execute inside of the event call }
When commenting the addEventListener line out, the error goes away. I am unsure why this would issue an error
i have a simple navigation system with three buttons, each button have a text field in it. On mouse over they change color to blue. I can achieve all these without a single line of code. I simply make a button of my text field in flash, and change the color of the text in the timeline.
My problem occurs when i want to make the color to stay blue when i click on the button. Apparently you can't access the child within a button, in my case a dynamic text field. I've googled this problem and they all say that you should use a MC instead of a button. Thats exactly what i have done so far. But i'm getting tired of writing a bunch of eventlisteners and put an extra layer with an invisible button in my button mc so i can get the hand cursor (because the .buttonMode = true and useHandCursor doesn't work when there is text field inside the mc). Any way, shouldn't there be a more elegant way to solve this problem?
I've been trying to build a new base class for my button that extends SimpleButton, and from there access the embedded child object, but the problem remains.
In this example i'm trying to simply change the text of the text field inside of my new MyButton instance. But i get the same old Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
package { import... public class Mybutton extends SimpleButton
i created a button on the stage and made it a movie clip and called it's instance name "play_btn" then i made a document class "main.as" and a second class "play button.as".so what i want to do but can't figure out how is to access the instance name in the play button.as file like this...
public class login_page extends MovieClip { public function login_page() { play_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, onPlayDown);[code]...
and then i want to call the function in the main.as.. but the general problem is that i want to access the instance name "play_btn" in the "playbutton.as" file...
I've created an button object in flash. The button contains 2 layers. One is the background image and on top of it is a textField. The textfield is dynamic. I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex.
I'm trying to do this:
var myComponent:MyComponent = new MyComponent(); myComponent.button01.theTextField.text = "Caption";
I get and instance of the button(myComponent.button01 is not null in Flex debugger), but the instance of the textField(myComponent.button01.theTextField) is null and I'm not able to change the text(but the default text appears onscreen). The code is compiled correctly in flex.
I exported the in swc the button control as well. So the button is not the default SimpleButton from Flash, but an derived class generated by flash(with the same name as the symbol defined in flash). It contains theTextField memeber, which is null.
Here is the button timeline(Layer 2 contains the textfield, and the textfield instance is named theTextField):
i created a button on the stage and made it a movie clip and called it's instance name "play_btn" then i made a document class "main.as" and a second class "play button.as" what i want to do but can't figure out how is to access the instance name in the play button.as file like this...
This is a problem that's best explained in code. I don't see how active_button.upState, which I know is a TextField (see trace statements), mysteriously turns into a DisplayObject when I try to access the textColor property. I've included the error messages below for reference. Also, why is it that when I have an object that I know is a SimpleButton (again, see traces) I need to cast it to SimpleButton in order to store it in a var? That doesn't make any sense to me.
I need to retieve the instance name of a button but cannot do it the same with a dynamic button the same as I can with a component button.For a built in component button the below code would output _level0.buttonName, however for a dynamic button i have created it only outputs _level0.
I have a website i designed which contains buttons that navigate the user to different points on the timeline using frame labels. when they get to the appropriate frame label, they are presented with a movieclip containing two layers. The bottom layer is a map, and the upper layer is a collection of printer buttons that have a tooltip component on them that show you detailed printer info on mouse over and takes you to the printer remote ui on release. each button has a unique queue name for the appropriate printer as its instance name (ex. itm100_btn). Here's the jist... I want to be able to place a dynamic text box near the printer button and using action script have it display the printer queue name automatically simply based on the button its targeting, or even placing the dynamic txt box inside the printer button mc. See, on some pages, there are like 24 printers... I DREAD having to put all these names in manually as there are like 150 printers total
...but I keep getting these errors (i will post them in order below):
1119: Access of possibly undefined property onRollOver through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onRollOut through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onRollOver through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onRollOut through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton.
I have a button on one layer and a dynamic textfield on a layer above it. The dynamic textfield gets populated from an XML file. When I test the movie, the dynamic textfield actually blocks the functionality of the button. It can't be clicked and the cursor doesn't change when rolling over the button.
