Flash :: Instance Class From Swc Inside A Movieclip
Feb 3, 2011
i'm trying to use compiled assets and code from a swc. Inside a new fla I select the swc to be included when exporting. When create the instance in the timeline of the code works and I can see assets that are inside the swc and trace a propertie from the same object. The problem is only when doing the same inside a movieclip, can't reach the assets (movieclip) but I can still trace properties from the class. I've uploaded the working files: master.fla is the one that creates the swc. template.fla is where I test the swc. files (This are cs4 .fla + .swc + .as)
I have a movieclip instance named 'placeholder' on the canvas, and I want to change the alpha of the named movieclip from it's class without effecting the alpha of all the movieclips of the same type. How would I specifically target the named movieclip instance that is on the canvas?
I have two flash files (say screenOne.fla and gameA.fla). After importing the main symbol of screenOne.fla into gameA.fla as a movieclip symbol (call it screenOneSymb), the simple buttons in the instance of screenOneSymb do not work. By "do not work" I mean they have no rollover, not mouse action, nothing. If I go into the edit "screenOneSymb" in gameA.fla and turn on "Control->enable simplebuttons" the buttons will work while in edit "screenOneSymb" but not on the main flash stage. I've worked around it, but this is driving me crazy. How do I import multi-layered movieclip symbols (with buttons and animations, etc, etc) and get them to work out of the box?
I'm using a library that has a function that returns an instance of some class Engine.
I'd like to tack on some interfaces to Engine, so I subclass it class InterfacedEngine extends Engine implements AwesomeInterface. but when I change the code that uses the classes from this:
var engine:Engine = generateEngine();
to this: var interfacedEngine:InterfacedEngine = generateEngine();
It gives me a runtime error (elision mine):
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert ...::Engine@1bc2bf11 to ....InterfacedEngine.
I placed a movie clip instance inside a button, and I want this movie clip to play when the button is released. I'm using this code on the frame containing the button:
function playMovie(event:MouseEvent) { this.theButton.theMC.gotoAndPlay(3);
I have a TileList that is fed by a DataProvider. The DataProvider places a source Class (and corresponding MovieClip) into the TileList as visual and interactive objects. [code]...
I've created a class that utilizes setInterval...I call it in a different class...and I can't get it to make the setInterval call. I'm thinking there's a scope problem but I don't see it.
Class w/ setInterval:
Code: class Foo { private var id:Number; public function Foo() {[code]....
The function will get called but I need access to the class's instance variables inside display().
First, I make an Array to hold all my Buttons. Then I make a loop and throw all the instances of the Buttons inside.
ActionScript Code: var TextButtons: Array = new Array(); //my container for the buttons for (var j:Number=0; j<6; j++){ var mb: menuButton = new menuButton(); //button created
[Code]....
Every works up to here and looks pretty sweet. Then things get tricky. I would like to be able to create Text, specifically tlf, as part of the instances of the Buttons, so that when I mouseOver the text is grows and shrinks proportionally with the Button. I'm stumped, and exhausted my knowledge of AS3. I tried to make a separate array with TLFTextFields, and things just got funky. I am using TLFTextField, because there is an option to make them read-only. Somehow I need to make them inside the Buttons.
I created a movieclip symbol and exported to actionscript, I created the .as file:
class BRIQUE extends MovieClip { function BRIQUE() {
[Code].....
"graphics" is an image imported on the stage inside my symbol, but it seems not to be accessible this way (I get an error), nevertheless it works this way in as3 then what is the right way in as2 ?
I'm having some trouble finishing an interface i'm working on,the function indica() adds a menu listing of items (indicadores) inside a mask because its too large, and i added a scrollbar that allows to scroll through the items but now i need to add the buttons inside the movie clip indicative,i can add symbols and buttons, but i'm having trouble having them call functions inside the same class that the function indica() is running.[code]
Ok, this is one of those walls that I know once I can jump over it, I will be a much happier developer again.
I've done tons of reading, and think I have a firm understanding that the general consensus is that if you want to reference something, it needs to be added to the display list, using addChild().
I hate to be defiant, but what if I don't want to?
Or at the very least, what if I want to add a movieclip class to the stage using addChild, and then reference objects inside it?
It is much easier this way than what most people recommend - adding 15 objects via addChild, then setting the x and y for the, etc.
That said, I'm all about using classes and using as3 the way it was meant to be used. So what this is, is a best practices question I guess.
HERE ARE THE STEPS I'M TRYING:
- Create new flash document
- Draw graphic symbol bg, with text field over it, select them, convert to movieclip symbol, and export class name "box", then delete it from stage
- Add document class .as file, which simply adds that class "box" from the library, to the display list using a simple addChild()
- Set a name for that box using box.name = "test" let's say
- Do a simple trace like the following - "getChildByName('test').textFieldName" - it shows up great
- So then, I'll now try to set the text by doing this - getChildByName('test').textFieldName.text = "yo";
That last line above, is what doesn't work. I know I'm referencing wrong, but how would a pro as3 developer, reference something on the stage within a movieclip class, from the document class?
I have a base class which is being created via remote_object [RemoteClass alias] from the server.I have other specialized classes that are derived from this baseclass, but serialization with the server always happens with the base class.The base class has meta data that defines what the derived class is, for example
[RemoteClass (alias="com.myco...')] public Class Base {
I have a Movieclip in my .fla which I exported for actionscript. I also have a class in a .as file. I would like to access this Movieclip from within my ass.I have tried this in my class:private var myMC:Test = new Test();addChild(myMC);But I get "1120: Access of undefined property myMC"
Im building a shooter game where a bullet is call from a class and the enemy is also called from a class.I cant make them collide. In order for stuff to start exploding.I have already tried two collision detectorsI keep getting this error
Code: 1120:Access of undefined property nBullet Code:
I am trying to replace a MovieClip with an instance of my custom class CustomMovieClip. What I want to do is make all references to MovieClip refer to CustomMovieClip, something like the following:
Code: var _mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChild(_mc); _cmc:CustomMovieClip = new CustomMovieClip(); replaceMc(_mc, _cmc); trace(_mc); // I want it to output '[class CustomMovieClip]'
I want this to work so any variables that hold the MovieClip should refer the the CustomMovieClip after the replacement. Is this possible?
I would like to make a new instance of a MovieClip within my library from code written in my keyframe. I relise that you can do this by making a class and using the codeCode:var instancename:movieclipname = new movieclipname(); and with the MovieClips class I would need to extend MovieClip and nothing else. I am unsure if you put in the name of the MovieClip or the name of the MovieClip class in the code above so feel free to correct me. But instead of doing this can I just add a MovieClip to my stage with doing this
I have to admit I pretty much ran away from Flash when AS2 came along and only used it for animation purposes over the last 5 years.So I'm having a major crash course in AS3 in Flash CS3 and I'm not enjoying it one bit. I'm getting maybe 10mins of finished work per hour as I try to figure out the limits and rules of AS3. Quite often it seems that AS3 simply can't do what I want it to. Anyway: Characterchecks.as is the main class and it loads a bunch of XML into four arrays. The file starts like this:[code]If I trace the value of, say, cc._Categories from the main FLA, it's empty. I'm guessing that the next line of AS in the main FLA doesn't wait for the previously called function to complete? (This may tie in to my next problem)My next step is that I want to display various things based on the data in the array. I have another class, Display.as which will hold all the functions to create the items on display. I thought it would be best for these to be a separate object. I wonder if I'm right?
So I declare an instance of Characterchecks in the main FLA and call it cc, and then run the functions to populate the arrays... Now I create an instance of Display and call it cd. How can I get functions in cd to see the values of the variables in cc? And if the main timeline can't tell that the functions aren't finished filling the arrays, how is cd supposed to know?I might be asking dumb questions, or maybe I'm doing things ***-backwards, I don't know. I'd appreciate any help, I really would. This whole thing has me at the end of my tether... being the most technically advanced person in my circle of co-workers and web design friends means I have no-one to explain why things need to be done a certain way or what the best way is.
Now: if I pass a reference (ref) of the main class to Other and I add clippo as you can see in the first case, I can reference the movieclip clippo from the main (getChildAt(0) is "clippo" from the main). But, is there any way to use the second method (no ref) and do the same from the main class? I can see clippo onstage when Other creates it but I can't understand where clippo "lives" into the DisplayList.
how to swap the sprite instance for a movieclip via the document class.
this a boid example from soulwire, and works great but i want to use a library clip instead of the vector sprite - for arguments sake - the library clip would be "boid"...
[Code].....
but am not able to work out what i need to add/edit...
me only still learning as3, i've checked google there and back, but somehow i can't find the answer for this: how to target a movieclip instance which is already on the stage from within a class file? i mean, targeting it from the document class file is easy, but what is i want to target it from another class file?
I have recently started out with flash oop concepts and was wondering how to do create an instance of an extended movie class without dragging and dropping the clip from the library ....I have figured out this method..
