I have an swf with a comboBox with three simple values. When I bring up the swf by itself it works fine. When I try to bring up the swf by loading it from another swf, I get a TypeError: Error 1009 "Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference, when I try to open its dropdown. If I add a ComboBox to the parent SWF's library the error goes away and everything works fine. Although I have a fix, I have several child swf's that I don't always know what components are in them.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Get Position Of Dynamically Positioned Sprites

Jul 15, 2009

I have an as class file that places some sprites at various positions around the stage, what I would like to then do is add event listeners to these sprites and do something starting from the x/y of that sprite (not the mouse x/y).

I'm populating an array with the created sprites and later looping through and assigning the event handler to the sprites but I can't seem to get any thing of any use out of them.

I'm calling the following function in a loop, each time I'm adding the returned point to an array (pointsArray) and then calling addChild.[code]...

IDE :: Import Photoshop File Positioned And Done To Flash?

Jun 9, 2011

So, it is possible to import a psd file to flash and have it all positioned correctly, if the PSD file is set to "Maximize PSD File Compability", however, the files(layers) does not appear in the XFL save in the LIBRARY folder, and the alpha and quality is horrific probably because the layer is taken from the composite layer, and not the real layer in PSDok, no need to worry yet, all we want is the correct position, that would save a lot of time, lets export the file from photoshop with the script, "export layers to file", then import the files in flash to the files we already imported and replace them in the flash library, Now this is where the problem arise, the file in the library, has some 'special treatment' done to it, and it is still not saved in the LIBRARY folder in the XFL save. When the high quality file replaces the trashy library item, the file disappears and probably gets saved in the bin folder as a

ActionScript 2.0 :: Gradient Fill On Dynamically Positioned Object?

Feb 19, 2009

Basically I redraw a circular object ("moon") every frame, reposition it and rotate it. I want a gradient fill that's offset to the left (-x) by the circle's radius. Instead of wasting your time talking about what I think it might be, I'll just show you the code . . .

For simplicity's sake, I've changed the colors to blue, red, green (in that order). Only the last one's showing up. I've tweaked the vales in the matrix itself for hours, but I can't really change anything. I can get the gradient fill to center on the circle, but that's the best I've done so far . . .

ActionScript Code:
var centerX = Stage.width/2;
var centerY = Stage.height/2;
var radX = 210;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Resizing Different Sized Images

Jan 30, 2009

Ok im new here and to Flash programing... so its safe to assume that i know close to zip. I've based it on the "XML and Flash Photo Gallery" tutorial by one of the guys on here. The centering bit i looked at another forums post. I use a MC(bg) and inside that another MC(photo) two buttons "pervious_btn" "next_btn" I load my images via "images.xml" It loads everything and it centers the 1st image(276x184), but it keeps the 1st image coordinates for the rest which is 640x480 and 480x640... thats where the mess comes in. It doesnt center the next image.

I know lightbox is there and easy to use but I dont want to because of the settings you have to set on the Adobe site for it to allow access and all that... besides i really like Flash! Is there a way to perhaps "reset" the MC, or coordinates before loading the next image?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Filling The Stage With Various Sized Circles?

Oct 8, 2009

I was wanting to do a quick class that generates an image from another image similar to the way the Killers "Day and Age" album looked like: [URL] The problem I'm running into (mentally, haven't started coding yet) is that I'm not sure how to place all those randomly sized and placed circles on the stage in such a way that they will completely fill it.I have thought of two methods, but both seem inefficient:

1. Use Box2D to create a new area where randomly sized circles drop from the top of the screen and fill the screen. Then, when all circles have settled, just track the size and position of each.

2. Select a random spot on the screen. Create a new circle, and test how big it's maximum diameter can be until it bumps into other circles or reaches a set maximum diameter. If it cannot become larger than the smallest allowed diameter, don't place a circle there, but move on. Repeat until too many tries in a row don't allow you to place any more circles.
