ActionScript 2.0 :: Mute Toggle Button To Specific Sound Clip
Jun 3, 2011
Creating the necessary code to make a mute/unmute button in ActionScript 2? I would like the "toggle" button to control a specific sound clip only -- not any other sound within my presentation. Basically I have an intro animation of about 20 seconds that has background music to it. I would like to add a mute toggle button that controls only this music clip and not any other sound found within my presentation. Is this possible? I've seen code for "globally" muting or stopping sounds. I need code for just a specific music clip (sound object?).

Is it possible to mute sound coming from a MC? as i have a music player inside a MC called musicBar thats on the stage, and just want to mute the sound of the music on a button press, but not any other sounds.What would be the code for this? i'm pretty bad with AS3 so i'd probably need the code pasted...Or i can attach the AS for the music player (the AS is located inside the musicBar MC) and someone call have a look at it? The player has volume control and mute, so the code for it could be used for another button,

I embeded an mp3 into a movie clip, and the source mp3 is professional quality, yet the embedded clip sounds horrible.
Is there a way to toggle any settings when importing a sound clip into the library?

I want to add a mute / unmute button for sound that must remain synced to my animation. It sounds like a pretty straightforward task and I'm embarased that THIS is where I've gotten stuck while I've gotten through some stuff I thought would be way harder on my own. The reason this is a problem is because in considering 2 approaches I've run into a wall. I'll gladly accept any advice to circumvent the roadblock either way.
Approach 1 is to add the sound to the library, drop it in the timeline as a stream and build my animation to match. That works just fine, but I can't find an instance name for the sound to run a setVolume function against (not even sure if it would be that simple, but without an instance name, I can't move any further forward; I tried labeling the first frame of the sound layer 'narration' and trying refernces like timeline.narration, timeline, narration, and so on, but no joy).
Approach 2 is to import the sound using URLRequest, instantiating the sound and setting the volume against that instance. Works like a charm but the sound drifts out of sync with the animation (that was synced perfectly when it was in the timeline). This is my less appealing option because I'm using nav buttons taking me to various frames and the sound (which used to pick up at the right frame when it was in the timeline) just plays on without regard to the point in the animation. It's not a surprise to me that this happens, but if I were to do this I'd need to write code into my nav buttons to pick up the right spot in the sound instance and I'm not sure how to do that.

I'm new to flash and just need to do a simple task but I can't manage to get it to work. I'm trying to import a video (flv) into a SWF container and need to AS functions which should be exposed to JS (using liveconnect or anything else). These two function should toggle sound on/off and toggle play/pause. I dont need any user interface or a full featured player, just these two functions.

I've made a mute button for my embedded FLV sound. I'm usingSoundMixer.stopAll(); as the controlling action. How do I start thesound up again? From what I could tell, there wasn't aSoundMixer.playAll();, which would be the logical choice.The sound is embedded into the FLV, so I don't have direct

I need it so the music plays at start and then the button will pause/stop it, and then turn into a play graphic which, when pressed, will play it again. I tried editing the code, but I am horrible at programming and of course nothing I tried worked. Please let me know what I have to change to start with music playing, and then have it stop/pause on first press, and alternate "play" and "stop" on subsequent presses.

I call it a hiccup because the code works; but it's backwards. When I hit the audio button it plays the music and when I hit it again it stops the music. I wish for the music to play automatically when you enter the SWF and then you hit the button to mute the music if you wish; and then hit the button again to play the music again.
Here is the code I have:
toggleButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, rolloverToggle);
toggleButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, rolloutToggle);
toggleButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, toggleClick);
toggleButton.buttonState = "On";
var song:Sound = new TitleMusic();

The image is the little speaker, which has been converted to a Button symbol. When you click the button to mute, the sound mutes and a red "X" appears over the speaker icon. The red "X" was created as a Movie Clip so that it appears and disappears as you mute and unmute....after you click the button and mute, the red "X" does appear, however 1.) When the master movie recycles so does that X (it disappears). The muting stays off, though. Of course, then, if I want to unmute, I have to reclick the speaker icon to make the "X" reappear and then quickly click it again to turn the muting off (and I have to catch it before it recycles and disappears again).it is anyway. I'm using AS2:
var sound = 1;var offMC = _root.attachMovie("off","off01",99);off01._visible = false;off01._x = btn._x;off01._y = btn._y;var s:Sound = new Sound();s.attachSound("WildWestSaloon2");s.start;btn.onPress = function(){ if(sound==1){

if(srchMC._visible)

I want to put another MC in place of the srchMC, by toggling with this same button. Can I do that? Would I just change the else statement to say MC2._visible=true; Also, when test the file is there a way to have the MC's hidden when the file loads, until the button is pressed? Is that an OnLoad statement?

I've downloaded the the Flash mp3 Player. I did some minor modifications to it and it works well. The only problem I have is that when the mute button is pressed, the current song is mute(s.setVolume(0)), but when the next song comes up, the mute button is not in mute state(Volume not set to 0). I want to keep the mute state unchanged when the songs are playing untill the mute button is pressed again.

I wrote something to capture sound from my microphone. I can visualise the sound data with SoundMixer.computeSpectrum.is there a way to mute the sound and still get sound data from SoundMixer.computeSpectrum?Now I have this:
sc=son.play();
var t:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(0, 0);
sc.soundTransform = t;
but I do not get any data. if I pump up the volume, data comes through again(I need to mute it because it will echo otherwise).

I have a button that is actually a Movie Clip (so I can animate it). I want this button to play a sound. (But this isn't a sound question.) If I have a list of 20 sounds, and 20 instances of this button mc, how can I make it know which sound is being called for? If it were a normal button, each instance would have its own load- or attach-movie command. But since they're MC's, the invisible button hit is always the same. Is there a way to make it look to the MC's instance name to get which sound to load?

I'm working with the FLVPlayback component but the mute functionality is a bit of a black box to me and it seems Macromedia has forgotten to mention anything about it in the help files.I'm trying to mute a playing movie with actionscript. The closest I got is using myFLVplayback.volume = 0. However volume 0 is not the same as mute and pressing the mute controller will do nothing and leave the volume at 0.I can use the volume slider but I can't stand not knowing how to mute the sound through actionscript.

I have a button, just one button, that I want to be able to use to toggle sound on and off. On the button I have included the following actionscript:
on (release) {
stopAllSounds();
}
Can I add additional script to turn it back on again? Maybe an if statement? The sound is currently being loaded and I cannot really add additional frames to make this work. I have to be able to include the script in one step if possible. Unless a movie with several buttons is the only way to go.

i'm trying to pause and/or mute a sound, with little success.i've found out that something like 'sound.play(pausePosition)' might fail on sound-clips with low sampling-rate.however when i try to mute a sound with a 48000Khz sampling rate it simply won't work.
i've tried both -
soundChannel.SoundTransform.volume = 0
- and -
SoundMixer.SoundTransform.volume = 0
however both won't mute the sound and when traced return 1.

I have some sounds in movie clips, this is because that is the only way to be able to select SYNC Stream mode (to keep the movie in sync with the narration). Thus I don't want to use Sound Objects because they can get out of sync...
Is there any way to control volume (so I can mute) with out using Sound Objects ?
