View 8 RepliesI found this great thread Scotty's Image Resize Gallery and have been playing around with some of the files. The one things no-one has mentioned in all of the posts, is how you might be able to customise the border.I see where it is written in the code, but what I really need to do is create a scribbly line rather than a straight one. It seems best to create mc and then have this re-size and stretch as the images re-size.
View 1 RepliesI downloaded the source file for Scotty's V3_with_thumbs and would like to know how to add another dynamic text box to it. I've tried and copied the arrangement and placement of iArray (calling it dArray), added dArray.push(gallery.childNodes[i].attributes.descrip); (with descrip being my new entry in the XML file). Given an instance name etc... but if I call descripTxt.text = id; (descripText being the instance name of the text box) I get the same Text given by the existing info/title text. dArray traces with the correct content (but all of it).adding in another dynamic text box?
View 13 RepliesBefore I go and spend a number of hours trying to figure it out - has anyone made the following improvements to Scotty's "V3_with_thumbs" gallery?[url]...
1) Gallery menu is fed by the XML doc and not hardcoded in Flash.
2) Next and Previous buttons (in addition to the thumbnail buttons)
3) Icing on the cake: "Slideshow" button that loops through the chosen gallery thumbnails. Probably needs to be a toggle button to stop the loop too.
I'm encountering a weird glitch when I try to use a more complex image border: the image container and the text caption both jump into place at the last moment. A bad effect. All I've done is add two more variables, "w2" and "w3" to the code:
Code:
var w = container._width+spacing, h = container._height+spacing;
var w2 = container._width+space2, h2 = container._height+space2;
var w3 = container._width+space3, h3 = container._height+space3;
border.resizeMe(w, h, id);
border2.resizeMe(w2, h2, id);
border3.resizeMe(w3, h3, id);
The only way I can find to keep the border shapes in correct proportion is to create 3 different border clips and apply the "resizeMe" easing function to each of them.
I've been working with Scotty's XML Crossfade (attachment link on bottom) and I'm trying to publish it in Flash 8...his version is in MX.I'm wondering (Scotty, if you know this, chime in!) if anyone knows really WHY I get an error message saying it can't find an undefined item in the folder I have the files in...yet the slideshow still works (with exception to the preloader).url...
View 3 RepliesCouldn't get the hyperlinks (based on kirupa's hyperlink slideshow's link load, link function and xml paths:
Code:
var id, current;
var k = 0, p = 0;

i have an xml picture gallery with a thumbnails row etc.This is the code in the first frame of the timeline:
Code:
System.useCodePage = true;
imageURL = new Array();
thumbURL = new Array();

Everything works perfectly but as it is now there's no preloader bar when it loads the big images.
I am a little stuck as to where to begin; I have created aphoto gallery and now need to add some preloader capability to it.The images are brought in via XMLList etc... What I have in mind, Iwould like to display a preloader untill all the images are readyfor viewing - not wanting to preload individual images one by one)I also have a document class within the gallery swf file, Ibeleive that this may cause conflicts with attaching a preloader toframe 1 - I have tried preloading the gallery swf file via apreloader.swf; the end result still leaves me with having toprovide a preloader within the gallery swf.Can anyone point me to any good examples, for me to get on
View 16 RepliesI followed a couple of tuts and I have the gallery working, but I would like it to have a preloader, so I added a basic one to the first 2 frames of the root and moved gallery movieclip and controller to the 3rd frame.the preloader works and the movie goes to frame 3 but then my controller(scrubber) for my gallery doesnt work, in the code there is nothing refering to the _root just _parent so I am not sure where the problem is. I'm a cg artist just trying to get a website up.CODE:root frame 1Quote:
LOADED = Math.round(getBytesLoaded());
TOTAL = Math.round(getBytesTotal());
PERCENT = LOADED/TOTAL;

Ok so I have this XML gallery working perfectly, but I want to add a preloader to it. I have the loader and child all in one package, and that package is called via back and forward buttons according to if/else statements that ensure that the xml gallery does not get confused. I figure ok, so it's simple, I just add the preloader into the package using if/else statement, but I can't seem to get it to interact with the imageLoader I have set up in this package. As it stands right now I get no compile errors, but I do get an output error at runtime stating that packagedF and xmlLoadedF are now null object references. Take a look and see if you can figure out what I'm doing wrong:
ActionScript Code:
stop();
var xmlRequest:URLRequest= new URLRequest("graphicImages.xml");
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(xmlRequest);[code]......
how to throw in some kind of simple preloader for each photo within this action sript from resize photo gallery ?
spacing = 0;
containerMC._alpha = 0;
var pArray = new Array();

I recently used this [URL] tutorial to make a gallery in my site.
I wanted to know if there's a way of adding a preloader for the pictures.
I have searched and searched and can't seem to figure this one out. I have a preloader for each of the images (loaded with XML) in my gallery. I'm trying to get the percent to show up. I got fed up and deleted the percentage part of the preloader it all together... But now I really need one in there. Does anyone have a clue how to code this? Here's the AS for the preloader bar I have so far:
Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
filesize = container.getBytesTotal();
[code].....
I've been trying to add a preloader to my thumbnails, but it has been quite difficult (really considering the idea of buying an AS3 book).
Well, this is what I have First the code to call the Thumbs from the XML file.
function callThumbs():void {
for (var i:Number = 0; i < my_total; i++) {
var thumb_url = my_videos[i].@THUMB;
[Code].....
What I really need to know is how to add a MovieClip to container_mc and when the Thumb is loaded, remove this MovieClip from it?
I am building a web site and I have the main movie, which loads a picture gallery (another .swf file) using "loadMovie();" and then the problem comes in - my gallery movie has a preloader which after finishing is supposed to move on frame 2 of the gallery movie, but instead of that it moves to frame 2 of the main site...
This is the main movies button code loading the gallery:
on(release) {
gotoAndStop(5);
Gallery_Sub.loadMovie("../Flash/murals.swf");
Here is my preloaders code on the frame 100:
_level0.gotoAndPlay(2);
And at last my gallery movie's code on the preloader frame:
stop();
percent = Math.floor(getBytesLoaded()/getBytesTotal()*100);
if (percent == 100){
_level5.gotoAndPlay (2);
}else{
_preloader.gotoAndPlay(percent);
}
I tried using loadMovieNum(); but somehow it didn't work as well.
been a fan of this great site for ages. [URL] One thing i really like about the site is that when you get into a section, you will see at the bottom of the section the numbers 01 , 02 , 03...ect.. progressively load into the movie, which when they are loaded in are active and can be selected whilst the rest stilll are preloading.
View 10 RepliesHow to construct a preloader for the thumbnails in the xml gallery.
So far, I've got Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
nfilesize = tscroller.getBytesTotal();
nloaded = tscroller.getBytesLoaded();
thumbpreload._visible = true;
if (nloaded != nfilesize) {
thumbpreload.thumbpreloadbar._xscale = 100*nloaded/nfilesize;
else {
thumbpreload._visible = false;
}};
I'm having 2 problems (that I know of)... I'm not sure that "tscroller" is the movieclip I want to preload for the thumbnails, and I can't get my movieclip entitled "thumbpreload" (which is set _visible = true; here) to show up. This preload function seems to conflict with the main image preloader and cause it to stop working. The file I'm using can be found here: [URL]
i've got all the xml coded and ready to go, now what i struggle is to implement my existing preloader to make it load each image. This is a work done by my friend and i am just continuing his final works so it took me quite a long time to digest these codes too.
this is my frame 1 actionscripts with a preloader.
ActionScript Code:
stop();
//Import the required assets
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
[Code].....
And in between the function ProgressEvent i am clueless on what to code, i've tried using addChild and etc to load the preloaders but fail.
I'm getting quite comfortable with the XML thumbnail gallery here on the Kirupa site... but wondered if there was an easy way to have a preloader for the thumbnails? I don't really have an idea how to set up the code for that.
View 2 Repliesi am loading all thumbs and images in a container on a single frame using action script..but the size of the swf becomes 1.2 mb so i want to add a loader to it. the loader i am trying to add counts the frames but my file has just one frame so the loader doesnot show up..
here is the script of my gallery..and the timeline has just one frame...

I am new to flashCS4 and done 2 of lee's tutorial's and have 2 questions.
1) how/where do I add a preloader to file when each vid is clicked on ?
2) how do I set a mc to be seen as a button in browser when you mouse over it ?
VideoGallery: [URL]
AS Code:
Select allstop();
hum1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, vidStart1, false, 0, true);
hum2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, vidStart2, false, 0, true);
hum3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, vidStart3, false, 0, true);
hum4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, vidStart4, false, 0, true);

What I want to do is to make a gallery based on the tutorial gallery here (thumbs), but I want the user to be able to choose different galleries from within the movie. I figured that I could make a loop to cycle through the galleries, then nest another loop inside it to cycle through the pics, captions and thumbs. While I wrote, I constantly tested the output with trace commands, but when I tried nesting the loop I lost all output.. I'm pretty new to both Flash and Actionscript, so if theres an obvious solution I havent been able to see it.. This is my temp XML file:

Im using a dock gallery fx from flash xml components. But for some reason when I preview in browser the dock gallery scales out of the swf area. This doesnt happen if i change the p[ublish setting to match movie. But if the publish setting is set to perscentage gallery scales.
View 3 Repliesi was looking for gallery looking like this site [URL] i was looking gallery first page title gallery then Big image like this with description.
View 1 Repliesi am trying to add extra images to the photo gallery attached. I would have thought it is easy and it seems so. I add an extra image to the gallery. I publish it. The html file shows the extra image in the gallery but the swf doesnt. driving me crazy, cant work it out?
View 14 RepliesI've made a gallery slideshow before but wasn't as intuitive looking back at it now and I want to start fresh on this new project. I would like to convert a jQuery lightbox style gallery into a flash XML based AS3 image gallery with categories. I don't want to code the FLA, I want separate AS files.
This is a school project for my website. I would use jQuery and I have more experience with it but this project needs a flash component. I'm just not sure where to start and looking for some advice on how and where I could find resources. I want it to be minimal as I can make it;
- 8 thumbnails to a "page/section" with more flowed into page 2 or 3 etc. (or a srcoller)
- a few buttons for categories
- images fading in full size with a description when hovered over and a close button
- preloader (simple bar)
Esentially something like this > http:[url].........works which is using http:[url].... for the thumbnails. That might be ambitious but I'd suffice with a simple fade effect.I've downloaded some galleries out there but most of the code is messy or outdated.http:[url]... this is alright, but all the code is done in the FLA. I might break it into AS files but it depends.
In my "actions" layer I have a function that loads a gallery of a external file called gallery.swf. The swf loads successfully but I cant remove that. The only way to remove is to call removeChild(mLoader.content); I noticed that the movies loads without addChild.
But sometimes also calling removeChild(mLoader.content) the content of mLoader is not removed and still appears in the stage.

how to make text acting as a preloader so that its color changes as preloader percentage. i dont mean how to apply the math, i mean how to mask it or whatever action to achieve that effect?
like for example imagine the red is constantly growing to the right letter by letter (actually pixel by pixel:
I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.
