May 28, 2010I have a XML file with a few concert dates. In my flash/AS3 file, I would like to show only the up coming event, relative to current date. Like this:
Event 01: 30-05-2010
Event 02: 02-06-2010
Event 03: 05-06-2010
Today is 28-05-2010, so I need to list Event 01. On 01-06-2010 I need to list Event 02. I have the basic AS3 code for listing the XML working, but I'm having trouble filtering the result.

All I want to have is a page listing shows that sorts them according to date and also when the show date has passed drops that entry from view.I can do this easily enough with a database and php but want to learn how to do it in actionscript. Apr 17, 2007I'm trying to add the date and time into my portfolio design...at the same time i want the date and time to be brought in by cycling the letters and numerals till it finds the correct date...i found the cycling tutorial and incorporated it into my design...the actionscript goes on the movieclip "main" which contains the dynamic text box "letter" and here is the actionscript that cycles through letters and numerals

Mar 2, 2010I'm making a very simple news ticker that uses XML to load four items: copy text, an image, date and a URL. The script was pieced together from tutorials and a bit of self-teaching, so I know it's probably not great. The AS is pasted below. Everything loads just fine, but the button script returns an "undefined" error. I assume this is because the item is no longer found in the array, but I'm not entirely sure. I also think it may be that the loadMovie method isn't working well with a specific item in the array. Also the link does not work. *Note* I know there are probably more advanced ways to tackle this but I'd like to keep this at my learning level so I can grow with it. :-)

In other words, if today is th 24th of December then I'd like the dynamic textbox to say "merry christmas" or something like that...HOWEVER I need to set this actionscript up so that it reads 8 different days and the dynamic textbox holds 8 different values. How do I do this? I'm having a LOT of trouble with this..and I'm on a deadline

Apr 8, 2009I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

Nov 22, 2011I'd like to play load/play one movie and show text at a specific times. In the Movie there is a scene where a board is shown. I'd like to show some text on the board when it appears. That's why I'd like to how to know when you reached a certain point.
Also about loading the video. I read there a several ways of loading a movie. What would be the best way in your opinion to load it in this situation.
1)Can this be done with the FLVPlayer component or through another way?

Sep 7, 2009I'm trying to make text disappear and appear letter by letter, so i'm using dynamic text. I've made this code which should do this, the only problem is that the text won't show up. I used trace to check what does the dynamic text box contains after the code has done it's job and it contains what it should. So I don't really understand where the problem is. I've embeded all the lowercase letters since I'm only using those... I don't know what else to add here... except the code offcourse:

Ignore all the "ifs" they just make the code do it's job when it should. And it seems that they work correctly. The first "for" cycle removes the text letter by letter and it only works if there is some text in the dynamic textbox while the second "for" adds the text letter by letter. I have the same code on two keyframes in the first layer and the the dynamic textbox on the second layer with only one keyframe.

May 30, 2009I just want to know why a dynamic text doesn't show in the swf movie.Let me explain a little more: I have a mc within a main time line in wich is another mc,this mc have photos and a dynamic text who must be scrolled to view all of it,but the text doesn't appears! ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Text Content Does Not Show Up?
Nov 9, 2007I'm attaching several movieclips onto the stage inside a for-loop and populating a dynamic textfield within the moviclip inside the same loop.Tracing the texfield.text shows the proper value in the Output console. However, the text value is not visible on the stage. I've drew a shape next to the dynamic textfield just to make sure the movieclip is being properly attached. I can see the shape but there is no text next to it.
