ActionScript 2.0 :: Some Large Strings Are Scrambled When Loaded?
Jun 20, 2009
I'm creating a basic web page, or TXT reader within flash. I have the basic foundations down, which decodes the HEX values to decimal, and returns them for the proper character, thus making the text readable. Anyways, what I've never been able to solve is the strange mystery as to why large pages will load with certain areas of the text switched around. For instance, the file's contents may be 1234 (this is just an example, because it will not actually occur with small files), but when loaded into flash, will be 1432.Try out some BASIC html pages, or any files you may have, in the Load Vars. You can leave it as it is now and use Craigslist, and then look though the trace log, for <html> and </html> to see what I'm talking about.
The pages get scrambled once I publish and test it for instance the one page shows and then the next and then another - all after another in rapid succession.I have the following layers:
1. Background - 20 (Where layer stops)2. Template - 20 (home) 3. Buttons 20 (the "20" layers will eventually change once the site grows bigger)4. page two- 25. page thee - 11 (has 9 pages on its own)6. page four - 12 now, the pages only jump around ONCE I ADD PAGE 4 - which is a movie.The movie is an .SWF and works fine on its own. The movieload tutorial is correct and works. There are also buttons on page 4 with button commands - I removed them and tested the published website without the buttons but they continue to jump around.
I'm trying to build a prototype for strings to be loaded into textfields.I want to break up a string and put each and every char in it in to the textfield with a 1 second interval.
This is what I've come up with, I don't get any script errors but nothing seems to work anyway.
[AS] var myText:String = "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. Ut wi";
[code]....
Expl: This script is within the first frame of my movie. The textField named "theText" is also put there.
I'm using flash 5 to develop a dynamic banner. It loads a txt file in an single line text field that moves from right to left, similar an electronic bank display. What I need is to check when the last character of the text loaded gets out of the stage (-x), so I can send the text field to its original position simulating a continuous loop animation. (I could do this using flashMX cause the text field scales according to the text size but I have to use flash5 ).

I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.
Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.
Code: var myArray = new Array(); myArray.push (Snivvle); myArray.push (Kirupa); myArray.push (Snivvle);
I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.
I have a gallery on my flash site.The way I'm working this is as follows:layer 1 that runs through all frames:var loader1:Loader = new Loader();when a button is clicked, the playhead goes to a certain frame and does this:[code]As a side note, I am also using Greensock's liquid stage to scale this holder up to a certain set size.Now I've noticed that when I blow up the screen, my loaded jpg loses some of its crispness, which is to be expected.I've also noticed this is remedied if I import a larger image than I need I get a nice crisp image. For example, I have been loading in an image that is 960 x 640 into my 'holder' which is 960 x 640.But when I load a larger image (1200 x 800 or larger) say, the image is nice and crisp.Only problem is it fills up the whole screen until I begin to resize my browser, then it snaps into place and is scaled correctly by staying crisp.Any way to tell this loaded image to not come in at it's big size, but to scale down appropriately w/o me scaling down my browser window?
I'm trying to read the width and height of a locally loaded image. This seems to work for images that do not exceed the dimensions limited by the Flash Player 10 [URL], but as soon as the images are bigger, the width and height remain 0. The strange thing is that now and then, I can read the dimension of these bigger images, but most of the times not. I understand that this might be because of the player limitation, but then I would at least expect the error to be consistent.
I want to check this since there is no use in loading such a big image as it will not be displayed anyway, but it would be good to provide a detailed error message to the user.
Here's the code that I use to load the image locally and read the dimension:
private function chooseImageButton_clickHandler(event:Event):void { var allowedTypes:String = "*.jpg;*.png"; m_uploadFileReference = new FileReference(); m_uploadFileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT,
how to display a preloader on a large movieclip loaded from the library? right now my app just freezes from the moment the load button is pressed until the movieclip finishes loading and appears on stage.When loading an external swf I use the contentLoader to get the loading info display a preloader. can someone paste an example code of a preloader on library movieclips?
I was messing around with some old examples, and I ran into an unfinished example where several 30k-100k XML files are loaded and stored as a string into an Array. The code looks basically like:[code]Basically, when I trace the 'this', the order of the files that are loaded is off. Out of about 10 tries, about 3 times the order is perfect. The remaining 7 times, the order is a bit off. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to ensure the files are loaded prior to the next file being loaded? I tried placing a while loop that basically delays the clock for a few milliseconds, and that didn't work either. Besides, that is not really a good solution to arbitrarily waste clock cycles.
I want to have just one function search() that takes three parameters (firstname, lastname, age) and return an XMLList. So the result could look like this:
var result:XMLList = xml..person.(@firstname == firstName && @lastname == lastName && @age == age );
But I don't want to use all three parameters all the time. I would like to have a function that uses a 'wilcard' if the parameter is NULL. So if the wildcard would be "*" the function could look like:
i have a .txt full of words (strings) devided by lines and separated with ; and i want to be able to load 1 random line and the first string of it..xALI;DALI;IDEAL;DELIRAREDIAL;REPELIDAAMO;MATO;MORTA;MOSTRA;MAESTRO;BATERMOSi want to be able to load "ALI" for example. and then load DALI etc etci used loadvariablesnum to load the text, but maybe that shouldn't be the best option..
I'm doing the finishing touches on my games. I want to keep track of and display the level (waveCount) and display it in a dynamic text box. However, AS isn't allowing me to convert the number into a string.
I want to keep track of and display the level (waveCount) and display it in a dynamic text box. However, AS isn't allowing me to convert the number into a string.
PHP Code:
private var waveCount:Number = new Number(); private var waveOutput:String = new String (waveCount); private var waveWord:Sprite = new WaveWord();
I would like to compare a string variable to multiple strings. Is it possible?I wrote a pseudo code of my own which doesn't cause an bug/error report,but it doesn't seem to work properly either:[code]
I'm making a typing game that focuses on developing typing speed and accuracy. In part of this game, the user has to type a given word in a certain amount of time. If the user types the whole word within the time limit, the timer stops and it results in 100% accuracy for that word. However, if the user does not type the word within the time limit, I want to compare the typed word to the given word and find out how many errors they made.
I found this to be a lot more complicated that I had expected it to be. Fore example, if a letter was accidentally skipped or an extra letter was added, it will make all following characters seem wrong, even though the user only made one mistake.
If I remove the variables and just type in the path name, the file does play. So there's no other error in this piece of code. I just can't seem to figure out how to create that filename from variables.
EDIT: I should point out more clearly its about the line = public var soundRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("sounds/" + Champ + soundType + ".mp3");
I get a 2044 unhandled ioerrorevent error and a 2032 stream error.
I have the following: function ShowSlide(event:TweenEvent) { m= getChildByName("tag"+slideIndex+"_mc"); m.visible = false; if (slideIndex < 4) { slideIndex++; [Code] ....
And I want to do for "tagInitW" the same thing I do for "m" being given that I already have "created tag1InitW", "tag1InitH", "tag2InitW", "tag2InitH..." So is there anyway I can dynamically target a variable? This was easy in AS2, but because of the strict dataType the vars have in AS3, I can't do it like I was doing it in AS2.
I am building a textField object that will contain new line character." " does not appear to work. All that it has been doing is trunctate the text string to the first occurance of the " ". Does Action Script use Unix new lines; (line feed)? Javascript does, as well as other scripting languages I have been using, regardless of the platform. It needs to occur within double quotes; " rather than ' ', other wise it is rendered literally. How do I enter new lines into Action Script text strings?
I am programing a flash page but writing function to send two stings at the same time? In my case, I would send backwardH and backwardLI have has tested all three options, but there is no error but either backwardH or backwardL movieclipet gets affected, not both at the same time though I would like both to be influenced at the same time. For example if I click button_1 then movieclip_1 and movieclip_2 would play. And if I click button_2 then just movieclip_1 would play.
//Option1 family.margeAS3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler_3); function fl_MouseClickHandler_3(event:MouseEvent):void{ direct = "backwardH", "backwardL" ;margePa.play();}
//Option2 family.margeAS3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler_3); function fl_MouseClickHandler_3(event:MouseEvent):void{ direct = "backwardH" + "backwardL"; margePa.play();}
//Option3 family.margeAS3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler_3); function fl_MouseClickHandler_3(event:MouseEvent):void{direct = "backwardH"; direct = "backwardL" ;margePa.play();}
what's the easiest way to cut string in Flex ?I mean, I have a sequence of urls, I want them at most 60 characters length. If they are longer they should be cut and "..." should be added at the end.
I'm trying to localize my Flex app, I have been able to setup the locale specifics and all the stuff inside MXML tags, that works pretty well, my question is, what about if I have for example:
[Code]....
How can I change with ActionScript those two strings to an other locale?
