ActionScript 2.0 :: Updating Code For Lionbichstudios Tutorial
Jul 26, 2006
I would like to update this "Rollover Depth" script to work in Flash Player 7 (works in 6):url...The functionality works much better than the standard rollOver/rollOff scripts.I assume there's a problem with how the variables are declared, but haven't been able to fix it yet.[code]
I'm trying to update the Flash 5 actionscript on an old Deconcept file to at least Player 7 and AS 2.0. Here's my updated code -The snow flake movie clip:
Code: onClipEvent(load) { // mostly just initializing some vars[code]....
When I trace the different variables I don't see any problems but the snow just isn't visible.
I am a learning programmer who is trying to do some simple experiments. However, when I go to change my code, the exported SWF never updates; it simply tests an older version of whatever I am testing. The only way for me to fix this is by restarting Flash, which is not ideal in any way.BTW I am using Flash CS5.5, if that means anything.
I want to have my code/class library stored in an RSL (as a SWF online) which is then loaded during runtime by the host SWF. I learned about this technique from Colin Moock in his book Essential Actionscript 3.0 (Chapter 31: Distributing a Class Library). Now, I know that if you share graphics between SWFs via RSLs, you can update the graphic in the RSL and have all SWFs that access that RSL use that updated graphic.
But I want to store code in an online RSL, that is shared by multiple SWFs, and then when the code needs to be updated, I simply recompile the SWF (do I even need to worry about the SWC anymore?) containing the class library and upload and overwrite the existing RSL on the web. Voila! The code is now updated in all SWFs that share that RSL Class Library. The problem is, I can't get it to work right. CS3 and CS4 aren't updating and CS5 just crashes on export!
The code I'm testing with simply outputs some chosen text to screen.I want to change the string that's output by changing the code. Nothing fancy now, but it'll obviously be used for far more indepth stuff when (if?) I get this going properly.
I thought this was possible, but I seem to have trouble making it work.I want to have my code/class library stored in an RSL (as a SWF online) which is then loaded during runtime by the host SWF. I really hate when you read a tutorial from some "expert" and what it tells you to do is wrong. I was doing a tutorial for a XML slide show, and the last line of code doesn't work quite right:
[Code]....
For some reason that only sends the my_playback_counter to 1. And it just sits there twitching. So when I tried to change the tutorial code to:
I have followed the guide at this link to create a matrix code effect. The matrix code font file is available to download from this site also (mCode15). Once I get this file up and running and understand how it works, I'm going to tweak it somewhat to suit my needs.
Iam, however, experiencing some problems getting it to work as described in the tutorial. I have followed the tutorial to the letter, but when the flash movie file runs, only the glyph symbol that I used to create the_one and one_pod movie symbols is displayed in the code that scrolls down screen. I have embedded the font the way it describes and even added it to the library and set it to export for actionscript using the linkage option. But the matrix code that rains down is still only one symbol which never changes.
I've modified the code to work with Pear, since I had it installed. However, I can't get the code to work. The consolation is I can't get the original code to work, either. You can find the original code's results here:
I'm designing a portfolio website that will showcase artwork that could potentially take awhile to load, so I'm using the code from that tutorial:

I'm using one of these, one image, per frame. I'll be adding more and more in the future. I'm still a newbie to as3 and I haven't completely understood the basics yet, so my question is this: how do I reuse the above code for a different frame without having to paste the entire thing with different names? I tried this:
I am an action script novice, however I have just created my own custom load bar and scrubber for the flvplayback component using a tutorial but the code didnt work. I also tried this code given to me:
I'm trying to generate an isometric grid via code using kirupa's tutorial but it's not quite working correctly as I'm trying to convert it. I am trying to generate a 5 x 5 grid with a unique coordinate to each square, but I can only get a row to form with the coordinates showing x = 5 and y = 5 for each square of the single row. There is also an unclickable square in the corner. Here is my code:
I sent an email to pom regarding a tutorial that he wrote, but the email was bounced and he hasn't replied to my PM. I have followed both of pom's tutorials that involve experiments with perspective in Flash, but I have encountered a problem while attempting to duplicate a movie clip symbol in the second tutorial ([URL]). I have a single instance of the "ball" movie clip symbol appearing at random positions. However, I cannot seem to successfully duplicate the symbol instance at random positions using the loop that pom provided:
I have built a catalog in flash that was orginally built in InDesign and exported but it has some small content that is hard to read for the elderly users viewing it and I would like to add a zoom feature or some type of magnifying glass.
original: I really just need to figure out how to center the pictures. here is what I did I have modified the tutorial that I finished to have a bigger stage for bigger pictures. Everything is working properly but the pictures are displayed on the left side, I want to have them centered in the stage for the images, after clicking on the thumbnails, plus my images are different sizes as well. ranging from 200x410 to 744x410 but all are the same height of 410. i will post up what I am talking about at the end. I believe it is something within either the action script or the xml coding that allows the position of the image to be differently? please help here is what i am talking about[URL] Continued: Here is my coding in action script:
I am just learning AS3, and have no idea whatsoever about the differences between 2 and 3. There is a bit of code from [URL] that I wanted to update to use AS3, but it was written in AS2. Here it is:
[Code]....
I get twelve total errors (there are six buttons with a slider next to them, and there are 2 types of errors). The first is: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onPress through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. The other is 1120: Access of undefined property _root. The key parts of the code (I think) are the button names, and slider_mc., a little black square that slides up and down the height of the menu. All of the buttons are button symbols, each with a unique name. I read that to fix the 1119 error, I can convert them to movie clips, but then they no longer function as buttons (which is sort of the point).
I try to create a dynamic web gallery in flash that feeds it's content from a XML DB, so it's easy to update and maintain the gallery (right?!). What I have, is the gallery specs in the flash movie itself:
// container dimensions // is that even necessary? movieW = 650; movieH = 600;
[code]....
and then the gallery process - so how can I subsitute this for a XML DB?
I have a function where I load a xml into my project. Theproblem is that when I have edited the xml and run the functionagain to load the same updated xml, it just keeps on loading theold version. Is there a way to like delete history and start freshwith the load?
This may sound simple but it's not at all from what I can tell. Hell it may be impossible but I might as well ask...Anyways, what I'm trying to ask for is a way to update the images embedded in an FLA somehow without having to manually re-import each individual file every time they get changed on the hard drive. We have a massive project with a large amount of FLA files, and having to manually re-import all of the images every time new things are committed to the repository is going to get rediculous very fast.
I know there is a built-in update framework inside AIR but finding valid code samples for the latest versions proves to be hard. Some code for simple updating (assuming ActionScript 3,
So there are these two heads on one slide (dragRec), each has a normal state, roll over, and drag. Endpoint prints to a textbox on drag that displays a relative position, and threshold is set to show the percentage between the left end of the slider and Endpoint. When you drag Endpoint its text updates, however when threshold is moved no text appears.[code]...
I have a function running in the very top layer of my scene that will change the value of the variable currentAnchor to 1 or 2. the code below is running in a movieclip but the value is staying as 1 when i trace it in the movieclip, but changing between 1 and 2 in the very top layer of the scene.[code]

Have an XML that holds variables in place of hard-coded values. Then create a Flash app that will populate the XML to be used via Flash app.Currently...I have a Flash app that brings in XML data, but we have to manually put in the data into the XML file. I would like to create another app that will allow people who don't want to get into the XML file to be able to input that data into a Flash GUI and click on a 'submit' button that will populate the XML file automatically.
I'm really wanting to incorporate this great floating text technique from levitated.net but updating the ActionScript for Flash Player 8 compatibility is beyond my knowledge. Can anyone lend a hand? Tnx.
I've made a website in Flash, it's the 1st time I've made a site with dynamic loading text. The text loads, that is fine, however, when I update the .txt file, the webpage does not update until I delete my internet history. This obviously no use as I can't expect returning visitors to delete their cache every time they visit.
how to simply make dynamic text update!I have a dynamic text box and I gave it an instance name of changeTxt I also have a var called changeRate. How do I get the dynamic text box to update?
changeTxt.addEventListener(Event,updateChangeRate) ; function updateChangeRate():void { changeRate=2; trace(changeRate); }
I am updating a movie created by a previous employer. It involves screen shots and voice overs. There is a navigation bar at the bottom with scrubber, stop, next, etc.
I named the new screen shots the same as the old ones and imported them and everything works fine. But this doesn't seem to work with the voice overs. As soon as I save over an old mp3 with the new one, the nav bar no longer works.
Is there a way once a flash site is live, that my client can change the text or even the images? Even if it's by uploading to the server? If perhaps they were all predetermined in size ect.? Similar to how HTML calls images from a folder located on the server. I'm guessing something to do with PHP? Touching upon this briefly so understand flash uses PHP to communcate outside of the swf file to complete certain tasks.
