ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Link Property For Page Transitions?
Dec 5, 2007
I've seen a number of tutorials that use a link property for page transitions and such. in this type format.
Code:
f (_root.link == "link01") {
gotoAndPlay ("link01");
} if (_root.link == "link02") {
gotoAndPlay ("link02");
} if (_root.link == "link03") {
gotoAndPlay ("link03");
};

I'm using tweens as transitions from one page to another, and to stop them from getting in the way I need them completely off the page. That takes three seconds, and everything else takes one. But if you click on another link before the three seconds are up the new tween disappears. Is there any way to stop this from happening?
Here's some of the code
stop();
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
exhibits_mc.alpha = 0;

how do transitions from page to page and from frame to frame all in on site, and i'm lost in the codes this is an exemple that i did in attachment, i want to be able to click in the different buttons bur a lot of thinks do not work. In the portfolio section i create a move clip that works well alone, bur when i integrate it with the home intro it didn't work properly. Hope that someone will be able to help me on that one, cause i think that this will help me a lot to understnad the basic transitions with buttons (frame to frame and page to page).

Ive just finished the foundations on my flash site.. each button directs to each area etc etc.The way I have structured my buttons is as follow,[code]so basically if I click on a button Im not at already, the elements from the current section are removed from the stage and im directed to the new section.This works fine for simple objects like shapes and text but some of my sections have custom scrollers and functions and this is where I've run into some errors.If I remove from stage and set to null like I've been doing, everything still works fine, but my output window complains off null object references ? If I remove from the stage but dont set to null my functions stop working and I get an error stating the displayobject must be a child of the caller ?

I'm trying to create a flash website where when you click on one page the background becomes darker and as you're about to click on another page the background becomes lighter again but if you want to go back to the previous page the background goes back to being darker. I hope this is clear. I've been trying to find a tutorial on this but I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terms, which is why I'm having no luck.

Sorry for bothering you with questions like these, but I've never worked with Flash before, so I've got no knowledge in as3. So I'm trying to make a full flash website, and I've read some good tutorials on the net, but some of the script codes the tutorials provide doesn't work. I'm trying to link a button to a page like google, or a page on the flashsite. I just purchased Flash cs4, so that might be the reason why the tutorial codes doesn't work..

I am able to pass a variable from an html link that loads a separate html file and instructs the embedded file to go to a specific frame.But - I now need a link within an swf file on one page to open a new page and tell that swf to start on a specific frame and it is not working. Here is the code I use for the first example - works like a champ:
html file 1
Code:
Go here
html file 2 swf embed code with variable info:
Code:

//
var so = new SWFObject("yourSWF.swf", "sotester", "500", "500", "8", "#FF6600");

I've built a SWF with the top layer being an invisible button. As a test, I simply uploaded the file to the server and clicked it. Here is the URL where the file is located: [URL] When clicked anywhere, it should take you here: [URL] and it does. I sent the SWF to a third party vendor who have placed the masthead at the top of a page: [URL] which its on their server. When you mouse over the image, it appears clickable, but if you click it, no action takes place. It's the exact same file. Why is it working from one place, but not the other?

I'm at my absolute wit's end. I'm an advanced Photoshop and After Effects user with quite a bit of knowledge using HTML and CSS. Today is my first day of Flash.
One would think that redirecting to a different page at a certain frame would be simple. I've been sitting here for 5 hours sifting through tutorials and forums and still have yet to arrive at the answer.
Here's what I have:
I clicked on the last keyframe and in the actions panel entered:
flash.net.navigateToURL(URLRequest("http://www.mywebsite.com/index.html", "_self"));
I have tried many (many) other iterations. how it can be done using step by step instructions. Most importantly I need a complete example of the actual code to be used.
Why is it so very very difficult to do this? I love how scripts function in After Effects. I love other Adobe software. Why is Flash so cumbersome?

I have a website I would like to run locally in the computer. The website is in flash and links to some HTML pages in the same folder. How do I write the action script button so it opens the HTML page in the same page? Right now I have:
on (release) {
getURL("localfile.html");
}
The above code doesn't go to the HTML page that I wanted in the same folder. Do I need a relative path or something? Indicate the folder it is in?

On my homepage I want a video and when the video has ended, the user gets redirected to the next page. So far I've got my video in flv format, imported it into Flash CS4 and the added video control thing. I've then exported the movie and imported it into Dreamweaver CS3. I can get it working on my website.

I'm making a website in dreamweaver with flash in it, I want to link an image that I have in flash to another page (.html) that I have in dreamweaver. When I first used flash and dreamweaver I had done it, but honestly now I completely forgot and can't figure it out. I know I didn't use any action scripts. I just put the page name (???.html) somewhere and it worked.

I am designing a website in flash CS3 using Action script 2.0 not 3.0 and Flash Player 8. The architecture I used is as follows:I have a menu/main page which loads the swf files of other flash pages.I have a particular flash chatroom page which is loaded by the main page that I would like to be able to link an web address (example url...) directly too that particular sub flash page ...rather than going to the main.swf which is what the original web address uses.
Technically I know I could link a web address to the chatroom.swf file, but then it would estetically look incomplete since the theme/design of the website is in the main.swf which calls the chatroom.swf.Thus my question is: is there a way to assign the web address to the chatroom.swf inside the main.swf.I would like to go directly to the chatroom without clicking chatroom on the main.swf menu.

I am using the following script in Flash CS4 for a URL link[code]...
and I would like the link to open the new page in the same tab. In Safari it opens the link in a new window (when the default is to open links in the same tab). In IE it opens in a new tab, and also in Firefox (though in Firefox this is the default behaviour for me). Is there a way to override default settings and get the link to open in the same tab for all browsers?

this is the first time I have used flash pro.I just edited the menu and everything works perfectly except for the highlighting of the link on the current page. If im on the home page, home is correctly highlighted. However after that it skips the next button (about). So when I am on the about page the next button (events) is highlighted.
