View 3 RepliesI've been doing some rapid prototyping for a game I'm thinking of building. one of the main things i want to do is map generation for a tile type map. While generating the map i end up using large amounts of ram. I'm building the map as an array of random integers for my test. When i try to generate maps of a large scale flash gives me the out of memory error:
Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.
I've already figured i could write to a file instead, to solve that problem. but does anybody know the actual maximum size? I've tried searching around to no avail.Activity monitor reports that ADL is using around 500MB "real memory" and around 700MB "virtual memory". The System.privateMemory property seems to match the "real memory" value.as a side note i'm developing in OSX Snow Leopard (64) with 8gb ram

When i run this script from a browser, stand-alone debugger or AIR i get roughly the same memory usage readouts (which i know vary anyway). What is constant however is the final length of the byte array:
Browser (Firefox): TM: 540413952 FM: 19116032 PM: 562573312 BALENGTH: 13421778
Stand-alone: TM: 540577792 FM: 1810432 PM: 545361920 BALENGTH: 134217728
AIR (2.6): TM: 5410816 FM: 1159168 PM: 551464960 BALENGTH: 134217728
My testing methods might not be perfect, though i dont know how to do deeper profiling.

View 1 RepliesI'm building my first AIR application after two years of building Flex applications with a SQL Server database, using ColdFusion CFCs and .NET as WebService interfaces.I want to create an AIR application with static data and I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing this, and how to do this. I have several related pieces of data.Should I store all the data in XML files and read it directly from there? Or should I use the built-in SQLite database? If I use the SQLite Database, is there anyway to have the data pre-populated with the application, or does it have to be built each time the application is loaded?

The presentation is a bunch of SWF files loaded from an XML file. My question is; is there a way to use a presentation clicker to access a snippet of code to advance to the next SWF file? I am aware, that by default, its 100kb. In the event that the user has modified their settings, and increased the SharedObject quota, then I have no idea of how to fetch the info.Is there a way to find out in AS3? I am attempting to create a music site with multiple cd pages using frame labels. I am seeking the best means to utilize XML playlists that include a full playable list of tracks from each CD at multiple label "stop"'s. I am struggling with whether I can create one long set of code that accesses the entire multi- cd playlist or whether I need to create unique code at each CD section at it's label "stop" that includes a 'local' xml playlist. Both options are giving me trouble. I am trying to extrapolate on actionScript 3.0 Classroom in a book "controlling Sound with ActionScript" example to multiple webpages - slowly and frustratingly thus far.Does actionScript 3.0 consider the actions within each label set of frames as unique code - meaning when a button takes you to another label new code is required that is fully unique to that new label section? I either get duplicate function or when I atttempt to re-define each function to a unique function in the new label I run into other errors.

I have them in a folder now, should I store them in the system folder or copy them to the programs directory for each application. Is there a way to put them in a folder so that "all adobe applications" can utalize them for production and publishing.

I have been to the 'get URL Function', but it says something about needing to link to a web page? But my problem is how can I link Flash Buttons to a web page, when my site is still being developed and not published? Do I have to publish first?

I can not open flash cs3 on my laptop with flash mx2004 also can actionscript 3.0 be used with flash mx2004 and flash 8 because when I save my flash cs3 document as a flash 8 document it does not work? I just realized that one of the reasons why my program might be running so slow is that I made the images out of lots and lots of circles. When things didn't look right I often just put larger circles over smaller ones. I didn't think that flash might still be drawing the invisible circles underneath-
When I call a .php file from flash and then echo a value back to flash from said .php file flash does not read it. My code is like this:

We've got a green screened video playing in a flash movie over top of our html content.when the movie ends, flash uses external interface .api to call a javascript function which swaps the flash movie out with a 5 x 5 pixel flash movie (rewrites the <div>).this works and you can interact with the html content after the flash movie in all browsers except firefox.anyone know of any work-arounds or is there a better way of handling flash over html in this fashion?

View 2 RepliesWe are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.

View 2 RepliesIs the Flash Video (or Flex VideoDisplay) component capable of seeking to an exact moment in a video?It seems to always 'snap' to keyframes (which is understandable). I'm just wondering if there are any mechanisms in the video classes for seeking to exact frames, ie it should do the translation from keyframe to specific frame in the background rather than having to actually play the video forward to the desired frame.This is not a streaming file and has nothing to do with buffering. The player is just downloading a movie file from the web and playing it from memory.

The story starts when one day, my boss asked me to make a flash presentation about their upcoming user training for a newly developed software. I was enthusiastic and excited about it because it's been a long time that I did not use Flash (note that I don't have any experience in ActionScript 3.0). At first, everything was a bit rough as I need to recall how to properly use the frames to create a successful animation. As I was about to finish the project, my boss approached me again and asked if I could insert a menu page in front so that the users won't have to replay the whole thing again just to look for a little something on that part of the movie. So yea, at first I was abit hesitant to accept. I said that it will work with Powerpoint. But she's a total pusher and I was forced to say yes. Now I'm having this problem about how to make a flash button load a swf movie.I've tried searching all over the net for tutorials but most of the times the "getUrl" and other stuff are said to be outdated.
View 1 RepliesI need to catch a hover event on top of a flash object, so I set the wmode and created an invisible div on top of it to attach the event listeners to. Thing is, I can't click the flash object. The cover is swallowing the clicks, and the things I've tried to go around this have made a mess of the hover events. This is the 30th problem I ran into in 2 days time and it's driving me crazy xD.
