Feb 5, 2010I'm building my first AIR application after two years of building Flex applications with a SQL Server database, using ColdFusion CFCs and .NET as WebService interfaces.I want to create an AIR application with static data and I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing this, and how to do this. I have several related pieces of data.Should I store all the data in XML files and read it directly from there? Or should I use the built-in SQLite database? If I use the SQLite Database, is there anyway to have the data pre-populated with the application, or does it have to be built each time the application is loaded?

Jul 1, 2011I've been doing some rapid prototyping for a game I'm thinking of building. one of the main things i want to do is map generation for a tile type map. While generating the map i end up using large amounts of ram. I'm building the map as an array of random integers for my test. When i try to generate maps of a large scale flash gives me the out of memory error:
Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.
I've already figured i could write to a file instead, to solve that problem. but does anybody know the actual maximum size? I've tried searching around to no avail.Activity monitor reports that ADL is using around 500MB "real memory" and around 700MB "virtual memory". The System.privateMemory property seems to match the "real memory" value.as a side note i'm developing in OSX Snow Leopard (64) with 8gb ram

When i run this script from a browser, stand-alone debugger or AIR i get roughly the same memory usage readouts (which i know vary anyway). What is constant however is the final length of the byte array:
Browser (Firefox): TM: 540413952 FM: 19116032 PM: 562573312 BALENGTH: 13421778
Stand-alone: TM: 540577792 FM: 1810432 PM: 545361920 BALENGTH: 134217728
AIR (2.6): TM: 5410816 FM: 1159168 PM: 551464960 BALENGTH: 134217728
My testing methods might not be perfect, though i dont know how to do deeper profiling.

In the event that the user has modified their settings, and increased the SharedObject quota, then I have no idea of how to fetch the info.Is there a way to find out in AS3? Or should I just stick to the possibility that 99% of users will NOT change their settings.
ActionScript 3.0 :: Utilize XML Playlists That Include A Full Playable List Of Tracks?
May 11, 2011I am attempting to create a music site with multiple cd pages using frame labels. I am seeking the best means to utilize XML playlists that include a full playable list of tracks from each CD at multiple label "stop"'s. I am struggling with whether I can create one long set of code that accesses the entire multi- cd playlist or whether I need to create unique code at each CD section at it's label "stop" that includes a 'local' xml playlist. Both options are giving me trouble. I am trying to extrapolate on actionScript 3.0 Classroom in a book "controlling Sound with ActionScript" example to multiple webpages - slowly and frustratingly thus far.Does actionScript 3.0 consider the actions within each label set of frames as unique code - meaning when a button takes you to another label new code is required that is fully unique to that new label section? I either get duplicate function or when I atttempt to re-define each function to a unique function in the new label I run into other errors.

However, I�d like there to be a Fullscreen button on the playback component, which will allow the user to toggle the video fullscreen.I cant, for the life of me, figure out how to do this with various settings�it should be easy! Oct 19, 2006What I've done is created a "fullscreen SWF" by using ActionScript to stretch a movie clip (yellow rectangle) in the background to fill the whole browser frame. The navigation is positioned in the upper left using ActionScript also; when the user resizes the window, positions are adjusted so the nav always stays in the upper left. (Adapting the technique from http:[url]....
External SWFs are loaded from an XML file into a blank movie clip on a layer that is between the yellow background and the navigation (adapting the kirupa XML Photo Gallery). Here's my problem: I want to be able to create full screen backgrounds for these external SWFs so when they are loaded into the main SWF they cover up all the of yellow background of the main clip. Also if the user resizes the window, I hope like the main SWF, the background on the external SWF can also resize to match.
If you press next twice to get to item three for example, I want to be able to stretch that orange box to fill the entire background. You'll notice if you resize the window on the third item, the orangle rectangle will adjust, it's just not correct.

I have them in a folder now, should I store them in the system folder or copy them to the programs directory for each application. Is there a way to put them in a folder so that "all adobe applications" can utalize them for production and publishing.

Aug 30, 2009I'm making a flash site, and i want it to load full browser with a "fullscreen"-button to go fullscreen. The problem, however, if i resize, the site will keep the same width-to-height ratio...But if i'm testing it using the flash debugger, everything resizes just correct...My html:

Oct 13, 2009I have an FLVPlayback component in an video.swf, and it has a fullscreen button. video.swf is being loaded by another main.swf. when the fullscreen button is clicked, it goes into full screen. But, the FLVPlayback scales too big and even the overlaying controls are out of the screen.

My question is: Is there a way to create a projector that always stays on top (e.g. even if a windows update occurs) without purchasing SWF Studio? As I understand TOPMOST is only for launched applications, not for the application itself.

I recall in Actionscript 2.0, in the video component you could change the field name in the schema to play multiple videos in a .swf file with the same skin, wondered if AS3 had similar setting.

Fullscreen Background W/ Preloader
May 26, 2009I'm no professional flash designer but I've got a partially built site at url... and I've used a piece of generic javascript to make the background scaleable, but it doesn't seem to be the most appropriate thing to be doing as it doesn't detect any scaling of the browser while the preloader is running,(eg. if you resize the browser while its loading it wont have resized the background once its loaded), could anyone direct me to a script or tutorial in AS3 that would resize even if adjusted while the preloader is running? I've found a couple in AS2 but i'm not quite smart enough to make it in AS3 myself yet.

Mar 4, 2010Flash freezes when in fullscreen, youtube or any other site. Disabling hardware acceleration works but significantly lowers the playback quality. I'm running XP SP3 and WIndows 7, same problem with both OSs, in IE, Firefox, Opera, and Google chrome, so it's definitly the adobe flash player that's causing the problem. Tried unninstaling adobe flash player and adobe activeX completely, than downloaded latest versions and installed them. Then I tried unninstaling them, unninstalling all the browsers, restarting, then installing the browsers and then the latest flash player.

I just installed the new version of air and exported the AIR file again Keypresses don't seem to workhow to fix this?I thought about exporting to an older version of air but I have no idea how since the only option I have in CS5 is 2.0
