ActionScript 2.0 :: Variables Are "adding" To Eachother (number, String?)
Aug 12, 2009
So I'm loading a variable into my .swf from PHP (using loadVars) and adding two loaded variables together. However, when they are added they "add on" to eachother.
Example:
varOne = 1
varTwo = 3
varOne + VarTwo = 13 (????)
I was thinking the variable may think it's a string, but I don't know how to declare the variables sent in from PHP.
just learning as3 for flex. i am trying to do this:
var someNumber:String = "10150125903517628"; //this is the actual number i noticed the issue with
var result:String = String(Number(someNumber) + 1);
I've tried different ways of putting the expression together and no matter what i seem to do the result is always equal to 10150125903517628 rather than 10150125903517629.
Having some issues with some variables not adding together to make a new number. Instead they are appending to each other as if adding characters onto a string rather than a number. Here is my code.
ActionScript Code: var dispenserPos:Object = {x1:"41", y1:"180", x2:"283", y2:"180", x3:"530", y3:"180", x4:"775", y4:"180"}; function randRange(min:Number, max:Number):Number { var randomNum:Number = Math.floor(Math.random() * (max - min + 1)) + min; return randomNum; [Code] .....
It should be tracing out 388 instead of the numbers appended onto one another.
If I want to add or substract number variables, how can I name them to indicate they are numbers and how can I do basic math with them? If I try adding common variables like
_root.answer = _root.var1+_root.var2; and if var 1 is = 1 and var 2 is = 2
I meant to call it "Convert a value to a variable". Using CS3, AS2: If I have a variable that's a string value = the name of another variable, can I extract the value and then look for the extracted value's matching variable name to get it's value?
Ex:
color = "blue" box = "color"
(Assuming I don't know the value of box) How would I get the value of "box" out so I could search for the value "color" as if it were a variable? I need to convert a value to a variable name is what i'm getting at... I think.

I need to be able to pass some variables FROM flash and append it to the end of my address. I assumed that if I used LoadVars, I can append the vars to the end of the string like this:
ActionScript Code: send_btn.onRelease = function () { var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
Inside my code i have some variables declared as Numbers, and i get some others from an external source; these variables can either be Numbers or String representation of Numbers. Now, i have to implement some equality controls on these variables, and since i don't know in that moment which type are them of, i'm converting all of them to Numbers (i don't need and neither want to compare strings) via the Number() function which accepts either Numbers or Strings as an input. These controls can compare 2 single variables or a variable and a sum (or subtraction) of other variables, for example:
I have a list of strings that I add to an array, then attempt to set those values in a for-loop using data that I read in. The array gets updated, but the values the array contains do not. I also have an array of buttons that I update this same way that works great, but strings don't seem to work the same way. I have tried moving the string array to give it full scope, and still nothing...
public class test extends Sprite { // Declare a list of strings protected var title0:String = undefined;
I'm trying to figure out which is more efficient in terms of memory and speed. What I'm doing is having a series of messages loaded to the screen. Is it just faster to write them in string variable or in an XML document which is more versatile in terms of editing and adding on to the document.
I'm importing a txt file through my AS and would like to use the string as a value to manipulate my timeline.. for instance ,the 'txt' contains a '0' and I would like to set an 'IF' statement that evaluates that value. this is the code I'm using (it places the value in a dynamic text box for now):[code]I understand that it must be converted from a string to a number, but have been having difficulty with this following other threads.I'm also curious if there is a simple way to continue checking the txt file for changes in value..
I'm trying to eventually reach an end result in which you control an object with your mouse (which has worked so far) and other objects on the stage gravitate towards you as you move near them, just like they would in real life with physics and whatnot in space. Basically at the moment I'm just trying it with a single object gravitating towards an object anchored to the cursor. It is sort of working, but not really, when the x and y positions of object2 get near those of object1 it breaks and flips everywhere.
Here is my code thus far:
ActionScript Code: onEnterFrame = function (){ Mouse.hide(); startDrag(atom,true);
[code]....
note the ax and ay variables could be avoided entirely probably and you could just do atom2._x -= 1 / dx; but i had created them when experimenting earlier and left them.It is very important that the object accelerates as it gets closer to the cursor, and that it is hardly affected when it is far away (again just like it would be in space).
As you can see it equals a number, (This number is subject to change throughout the project.How can I add all of the digits in this number up into a new variable.The number is "1382" so the new number would be all the digits added together... 1+3+8+2, "14"
I have an array, strictly numbers, how could I add... say array[0](value=2)+array[1](value=1) to equal 3? What I come up with is an undefined error, or not a number...
I've got a function here that spawns an enemy for me and I'm calling it in a loop every few seconds or so that it creates a new enemy every second. This all works great.What I want to do though, is to make the enemies collide with each other. How would I go about doing this? I've tried using hitTestm but it detects that each enemy is hitting itself which is always.I've attached my code.
at the end of this tutorial it talks about adding links to the buttons created. I did what it said to do but the two buttons keep canceling themselves out if I place them on top of eachother.
I have 2 objects, a bouncing ball and a barrier. How do i make it so that the ball may not pass the barrier? It seems that no matter what I do, there are circumstances in which the ball does pass the barrier.
I want a xml gallery with all the pictures visible and stacked on top eachother. And i also want to make every picture buttons s you can click on a picture and go to the html page with a big picture. is this possible and can someone help me with the code?
Problem is that the sound is played twice overlapping eachother (some of the mp3 is played first,interrupted, and then restarted again to finish fully).
Does anyone know an url where I can get the current time as either a string or a number? Or how do I solve the problem that flash can't create an external time? Or does anybody have a perl-file that they wouldn't mind sharing with me that could do the trick
i have a simple dynamic textbox and want to store the TotalTime-property (= seconds of the video) of my video (flvplayback component) into this textbox. how can this super-easy thing be done?
The string (score0.text) will have an "s" at the end as the time is counted in seconds and tenths, so I will be receiving something along the lines of "8.1s" as a value.. I would like to take score0.text, remove the "s" then *1000 the amount as a number before use..
I want to convert a textbox value to numric value and i use a code like this :var n:Number = Number(myTextbox.text);when i trace the variable (n) it gives me 0. although when i trace myTextbox.text , it gives me the right value.
Im looking to be able to find a number (any number) within a text string, what i ultimately want to do is crop the number out of the string to just be left with a number value, the only problem is the string could be any length and the number doesnt necessarily start at any point from the last characterI have items on the stage named 'image0', 'textfield2', 'button500' etc, as you can see the prefix before the number isnt a fixed length so I couldnt use substr and set an index, and since the number could be any number i couldnt set the index as a certain value before the end of the string. (ie it might return '500' or 'ld2' or 'ge0' in the examples given before)
